Microsoft learned the right lesson, everyone has internet! \s

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

I rate this meme accurate.
Also, why are countries more free on the internet than america?

I want Linux to succeed, and be the competition to Windows, so I deal with these "downsides" honestly, the limits in my theory, cause me to only purchase good hardware and software.

Is the mainstream even what should be targeted?
I'm reading comments on how people are actually getting worse at using computers.

I've been just recommending Lemmy out there as the new internet, which us what this feels like to me, IS like the old internet again!

Adobe to update vague AI terms after users threaten to cancel subscriptions (arstechnica.com)

Adobe has promised to update its terms of service to make it "abundantly clear" that the company will "never" train generative AI on creators' content after days of customer backlash, with some saying they would cancel Adobe subscriptions over its vague terms....

A PR disaster: Microsoft has lost trust with its users, and Windows Recall is the straw that broke the camel's back (www.windowscentral.com)

It's a nightmare scenario for Microsoft. The headlining feature of its new Copilot+ PC initiative, which is supposed to drive millions of PC sales over the next couple of years, is under significant fire for being what many say is a major breach of privacy and security on Windows. That feature in question is Windows Recall, a...

Its a selling point for me privacy wise no? The program Doesn't need the access to everything like my graphene phone.

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

If we could tackle the idea that Privacy matters and get more common folk aware of what they are losing, then I would like that very much.

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

Yeah, its sad that it'll take something happening to the common person to take Privacy seriously.

Holy crap, I thought I hated AI and I was uncertain. Now I'm sure I hate AI

The only regular people I can think of are gamers and my mom but I would like the idea of PC's returning to techie and specialized use cases

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

Back when it was relevant I would use Plop it would magically boot any machine to usb that wasn't capable yet.

Not a big Privacy concern, Can you just go turn on recall on the store PC where they sell these?

CEO of Google Says It Has No Solution for Its AI Providing Wildly Incorrect Information (futurism.com)

You know how Google's new feature called AI Overviews is prone to spitting out wildly incorrect answers to search queries? In one instance, AI Overviews told a user to use glue on pizza to make sure the cheese won't slide off (pssst...please don't do this.)...

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

They have no solution! the data is just bad!

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

You made my day!

@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

I'm already seeing more traffic across reddit and youtube

I'm typing this from Linux mint, I play mainly video games and websurf but I choose this distro for the community support! Since I don't know everything about linux I go here on lemmy, or reach out to the members via hexchat

Just found out about these wonderful art pieces!

I'm all the more curious too now!

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

I wonder what's happening?

For me, It's linux mint on my main PC, goodbye windows.

Do note that POPCNT instruction is required.

If you were to install windows 11 on some Intel core 2 Duo's

Yep, the AI will be watching, including porn. (not confirmed since not out)

Moorshou ,

I'm just baffled, why am I not free to install whatever crap I want onto my phone?

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

True, I can go get it still from the aurora store.

Linux mint and Fedora 40 user here!

I am still trying linux out, so far, everything is great!
I mostly just use my PC for web surfing and games though,

Moorshou , (edited )
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

Now I use linux and I'm still mad at what microsoft is doing!

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

I've heard of cases where parents are putting kids in front of linux recently!

They are windows illiterate i think is what the kids posted.

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

I would say so far, I can find the solutions just like i can with Microsoft, i can even leverage it with AI to get my problems solved. and actually, in linux mint, they have a irc and forum i can contact from my desktop.

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

Honestly? I fixed windows as much as i do linux

I just web surf and play video games on my machines,
I had to open terminal once to install printer drivers, the printers a MFC-490CW
otherwise, nothing needed to be fixed

It's just nice to HAVE the terminal, lets me go under the hood of my computer if need be.

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

Linux mint user here.

Sound works even better then windows,
Printers needed terminal work to install, but forums were very helpful.

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

Why does it have to be one tool though?
More of a complaint to business in that they don't let you use other tools.

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

Thanks for trying linux!

I don't use pop os or gnome personally and I'm not part of any cult or whatever.

I found a accessibility setting that changes stuff to be white but I don't think I got what you wanted 🥀

I know kde plasma has a white general look, and can be themed much more than gnome in pop os seems to be.

it also has 3 finger click in its setting under the touchpad option

Also, try Fedora 39 kde spin https://fedoraproject.org/spins/kde/
I mention this because fedora has the new linux tech in it so your laptop might behave better with this os.

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

Sounds good to me, never used kubuntu myself though.

Moorshou ,
@Moorshou@lemmy.zip avatar

Usually I just go to the appstore on linux mint, kubuntu has a appstore called discover as for setting up a network drive, I have no idea so I asked meta.ai

Open the File Manager (Dolphin)
Click on Network in the left sidebar
Click on Add Network Folder
Select the type of network share (e.g., SMB/CIFS, NFS, etc.)
Enter the network drive's address (e.g., smb://username@server_ip_address/share_name)
Authenticate with your username and password (if required)
Click Add to mount the network drive

Honestly, tell me if asking AI helps you at all, because I got no idea if it's hallucinating how it should be done.
