Same, almost unusable with a VPN lately. It sucks. Use searxng now but you loose the image reverse search.

I feel like a sensible realistic course of action with this is it needs to be in the act of sharing/distributing. It would be way to broad otherwise as the tools that generate this stuff have unlimited purposes. Obvious child situations should be dealt with in the act of production of but the enforcement mechanism needs to be on the sharing/distribution part. Unfortunately analogy is blame the person not the tool on this one.

If it works for you... I agree with the general sentiment of "if its free you are the product". However, I see kagi come up so often around here that I feel like it's some astro turfing. I tried it and was not impressed. SearXNG is by far the best search engine I've used in a long time and the best part is I am hosting it locally on my PC, traffic is going out a VPN. You get the privacy and the best results possible since its a meta engine using many different engines.

Never used brave, I think DDG is actually a pretty decent search engine overall. I use it as my backup to searxng and used it primarily for years now before switching to searxng.

I use proton and the one thing that I've wanted is a replacement for google docs, while this may only be a notes app I look forward to it being added to proton and may use it outside of just syncing to my proton drive.

I recognize that the adoption of basically outsourced apps seems less desirable than in house proton apps. Will have to see if proton continues to move toward outsourcing further app solutions.

I was on the fence about donating but now you got a new donator. Thank you for running this site. I use it every day. Lemmy has pretty much replaced the old alien site for me now and I really like this instance after bouncing around between a few and even hosting my own. Wow, almost a year already (9 months~)

I made the jump back last fall. I've ran into one game so far I couldn't play and that was just because of it's anticheat software (the game was "hell let loose"). Check out Pop!_os. The GPU drivers are preinstalled in the kernel and just work. For both Nvidia and AMD. Steams proton and lutris/wine have made everything easy to play. Never going back to windows now.

As soon as you start running a pihole on your home network it makes really stop and think and want to eradicate all unnecessary data tracking. Windows was so chatty. Science only knows how much of a consumer profile they create and sell on you for just wanting to use a computer.

Additionally... Smart TV's are the absolute worst too.

Latest example I ran into is on android TV you cannot change your dns settings in wifi config. On regular android you can. I had to spend a couple hours fiddling with my routers networking (I was doing some weird routing for a specific network that android TV is on with a VPN tun only for that network). And if it just had the ability to change the dns settings to a static value I wouldn't of had to do that. Why would they do that?

Same. All the time actually. To get around annoying work blocks, or site vpn blocks (looking at you reddit when i actually have to venture to your shite hole for a specific tech question) or simply see content as it was crawled. Internet archive was always my primary but google cached i used alot. I just noticed like two days ago the cached button was gone for newer pages
