Crude oil isn't really something you'd find outside the shipping or refining industry though.

I think they're just covering their assess with the oil thing.

It's a typical status symbol, nothing else.

Usually defended with excuses like "I have kids so I must protect them with a 2 tonne tank"

Only small services with fewer than 50 employees and annual turnover of under €10 million (around $10.8 million) are exempt.

Wow. Great that this exception is there otherwise it would have killed all hobby forums and things like Mastodon and Lemmy.

Teflon aka PFAS that we now know we really don't want crumbling off into the environment. Please no

Zworf , to Technology in This Is Why Tesla’s Stainless Steel Cybertrucks May Be Rusting

There was a time when yes it did. Back when the manufacturers switched to more environmentally safe paints in the late 90s/early 00s.

But they got their ducks in a row quickly, these days it's fine. Similar to the many solder ball cracking issues caused by lead free solder when it first appeared.

Full Self Destaining :)

Rust is just iron oxide, it's not a big deal in food in small quantities.

Though alloys containing chromium might be a different story.

Zworf , to Technology in Apple’s iMessage is not a “core platform” in EU, so it can stay walled off

Also, iMessage will become even more irrelevant now because the other platforms like WhatsApp will be forced to interoperate. By not being part of this "hive", iMessage will become even less appealing than the others.

It's also the Americans IMO. The British were just doing it to provide the Americans with a base at Diego Garcia. Vassal state and all. Are the British free of blame? Absolutely not, but they didn't do this of their own accord. I think both parties share the blame.

UN resolutions or not I doubt they will give this up especially now with China's expanding influence in that region. It's not that close to China but it's a pretty serious midway point for refuelling.

PS I had no idea that the .io domain was for BIOT, thanks.

Zworf , to Technology in Bluesky is ready to open up

The best way to make federation work is by users not even having to know or care. Do users even know email is federated? No, they just sign up with a provider and it works. Same with the phone network, sign up somewhere and you can call everyone in the whole world.

I think part of the reason that users don't get it is that the federation is sometimes explained too much.

Beehaw sets a really good example here because it doesn't really promote itself as a lemmy instance but as a unique community that just happens to be connected.

Zworf , to Technology in Bluesky is ready to open up

A bit disingenious if you promote your protocol as the future of federated socials though.

Zworf , to Technology in Bluesky is ready to open up

Meh. Not for me. Either fully federated or not.

I don't like the twitter format anyway. Lemmy is way better.

Zworf , to Technology in Microsoft stole my Chrome tabs, and it wants yours, too

Well yes but GPOs overrule registry settings (if a user or the OS flips a registry setting, the GPO will switch it back on the next reboot).
