On the other side learning Linux takes so long that by the time you get it you're in your 60's, which prevents becoming a femboy.

For me it went

C64 Crack Intros -> Synth -> Rave -> Ambient -> Linux -> Drugs and alcohol

I worked at the NOC for a media company with over 3K employees. They made us use MacBook Pros 13" for our day to day sysadministrative tasks.

Laptops. Apple laptops. I don't know but that does not sync well with administering linux networks with for me, personally. God those things were horrible. I don't ever write it out on my CV that I can work those things, I will actively state in interviews that I have zero X/iOS experience.

I was a Macintosh fanboy up to circa 2000, after that they changed everything and I can't stand them anymore. I call them Apple, because Macintosh is a thing of the past.

Music Piracy Is Back, Baby (gizmodo.com)

"Muso, a research firm that studies piracy, concluded that the high prices of streaming services like Spotify and Apple Music are pushing people back towards illegal downloads. Spotify raised its prices by one dollar last year to $10.99 a month, the same price as Apple Music. Instead of coughing up $132 a year, more consumers...

Things most certainly changed. Now google has to beg me for it. Come on Google, beg. But maybe your point is that resistance is futile and why even try to fight it just give in and let it happen. I don't know but mama didn't raise no quitter, I don't know about you but to each his own eh.

anarchy79 OP ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

The loopholes are ridiculous, not to mention that they are obviously going to just break everything for you if you don't comply anyway, but there's so many things they could do to throw sand in the gears- what matters is that the EU is doing something, it's reacting, it's trying to fight it and keep our common European values and not let foreign corporate empires dictate how things are done here, futile as the prospect may seem.

anarchy79 OP ,

Dude I'm just a drunk gal with an internet connection, you would not believe the things that slip my mind on a daily basis.

I am always respectful and try to mind, but I'm not exactly omniscient either, I can barely hold my life together know what I mean? So sorry for no subtitles, but there are tons of super cool people here who do it voluntarily so that everyone can enjoy the knowledge of how deeply we are being spied on by Google. And our fight against it!

anarchy79 OP ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

Huh. Would that be a good solution, like a hover popup you mean? I'm not into CSS. Will screen readers get that? Shouldn't be crazy difficult to make a bot otherwise, screen reader scans images for text on request by poster or automatically. We have bots here right?

anarchy79 OP ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

Ha ha none, that's me getting creative so you guys have something pretty to look at while also hiding my personal info. I can't help myself starting to doodling away when I go to delete shit with GIMP.

But I will always prefer screenshots because I think it is more impactful and provides visual context to show what's going on, a picture says more than a thousand words as it were.

anarchy79 OP ,

De-googling is not a simple task, it takes actual man-hours of proper work to be done, especially when we're talking decades of accounts et c. Even when and if that gets done, what are you going to do about Android? And even if you sort that out, there are a hundred other digital ware that would need the same treatment.

At some point the task becomes insurmountable, it seems, not to mention you already need to have a solid technical background to have a chance of pulling it off.

I would love some suggestions if you have them, but frankly I am getting too old for this shit, I've fought it all my life but I'm just the one person and my time is limited you know what I'm sayin.

anarchy79 OP ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

This is one battle in the long war, my friend. If you want to kill them, these kinds of steps are absolutely essential. You can't just go back in time and snipe Hitler, you have to fight on the beaches, on the fields and in the streets, and you must never surrender.

anarchy79 OP ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

This is the EU slowly doing what it can.

"Kill cancer already"? Ok, for that we need to do testing and advanced chemistry for a long time. This IS how you get rid of it, there is no other way.

anarchy79 OP ,

Si señor?

anarchy79 OP ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

That sounds like a great idea, in that case, but I know 0 about HTML, I just make systems run. Where do we go to suggest something like it? Lemmy is a whole new thing for me so...

Of course it's not!

Look at it like they are saying:

"Hi! Your account may be hacked. To mitigate it, you need to log in."

I didn't even know I had a Twitter account, and so 2FA certainly not. So as a person who never uses Twitter, to get a mail like this is a conundrum. Better log in and change that password or whatever, right? So suddenly someone who never used twitter, or apparently did sign up once some long time ago, is logging in for the first time in ages.

Corporate: "See, users are coming back to our platform!"

Then again, it could be a phishing attempt, too, but either case is un-good. Someone tried to log in multiple times over 6 hour intervals and over 2 days, so obv hacker, but still.

anarchy79 OP ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

Man I thought I added that information, I intended to, obviously.

But either case, I'm not taking any chances. I'd never click a mail link regardless, I'd go straight to the address in another browser session to examine what's going on.

My solid guess right now is actual hacker attempt, because they've been trying to log in every 6 hours or so for a day or two. I use solid passwords for everything, so hopedy hope. Not that I know what the fuck they'd use my twitter account for.

It's going to be a cash flinging fest. Sign up for the IPO, put your money there, sell in the next days. I am no day trader but I don't know of a single time I've heard of an IPO that wasn't heavily pumped for the first hours and days. Not that I'm a filthy capitalist swine who would do such a thing, I'm just saying.

anarchy79 ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

I think like this: "oh, that sounds cool and smart and has a catchy brand, a lot of people will buy things that sound cool and smart and have catchy brands, so let's [hypothetically] buy that then sell it right after before the hype dies out in the face of reality"

I remember when they used to be like twenty bucks. That was, like, the whole point. I remember when people were talking about how it would revolutionize education because now every "third world" country could afford to buy computers for all the students. I suppose that didn't happen for more than one reason, but it was a nice dream while it lasted.

anarchy79 ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

I was basically handed a C64 straight outta the womb, and I think I've been so spoiled by having such free access to devices and technology, and be able to just tag along for the ride of the IT revolution, so I didn't bother to learn to code.

I just figured that down the line they'd come up with AI that could code for me, and while I was right, I really could have learned coding and be a total IT pimp by now. Now I'm just an IT chump, which is still nice, but still.

There's something to be said of deprivation. If all you've got to play with is sticks and stones, that's when your mind come up with the sickest creations.

anarchy79 ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

Not to be too personal, but did that affect you a lot later in life, I mean the constant being on guard and fear of getting caught, to always have a lie ready to go and be nervous all the time? I find that if affects most people like that, but roughly one in five instead become super chill and really get their shit sorted. I'm not going anywhere specific with this, I just got curious from an academic and personal experience pov.

manipulating people to calm down.

There are worse uses! It's like I thought, you're one of the good ones.

edit:

a big deal when my side of the family finds out

I am sorry my man. That's some silly shit for anyone to get upset about. Grats on the pierces! I got fuck drunk at a festival when I was 16 and came home to mom and dad with pierced eyebrows. There were some very very frowny faces at home for some time, but I got away with it. I think they knew that ultimately, I don't give a shit what they think. I just happen to, but I don't have'ta. Good thing with many siblings. Then you can flow around them and disappear in the crowd so to speak. Peace.

anarchy79 ,

That is kind of bordering on metaphysics. The will of the EU is what they agree upon. What they agree upon is decided by vote of its members.

Saying the EU doesn't want something because technically it's made of people is not saying much at all, imo. I could just as well claim that there is no free will at all, and we'd be stuck arguing it for 2000 years.

anarchy79 ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

Hahaha I can respect that. I do have a pretty big chip on my shoulder when it comes to language, semantics, syntax, whatever, but I will always let it slide if the counter argument is based around instrumental favorability.

anarchy79 ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

Thanks for the explanation, my friend!

My problem is that I am a hopeless generalist (which basically means I invariably find myself in support positions rather than what I actually should be doing), and IT is an endless jungle. I'm too curious for my own good.

anarchy79 ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

No. I don't know coyotes. They hunt deer? In packs? Or are they large enough to do it solo?

I thought these things were like mangy dogs the size of, well, a mangy dog.

My point is, they wouldn't know the cat is clawless. I'd think most animals would give cats a wide berth, but then again dogs do chase them... Until they catch one and find themselves regretting it.

anarchy79 ,
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

But mangy dogs can't throw lead!

I thought coyotes would more be BB guns.

Also, do NOT underestimate the power of a slingshot and lead bullets.

I suppose like I should not underestimate the power of a coyote.

Although I am pretty sure that 1 on 1 I would take down a coyote in hand to hand combat. I think I could manage up to a kangaroo.

anarchy79 , (edited )
@anarchy79@lemmy.world avatar

HAHAHAHAHA! That's the second out loud laugh I've had today! That's funny, not underestimating dogs with mange!

But the real joke is that you think I can't take out a kangaroo in solo hand to hand combat. I'm not talking the biggest ones, like maybe a smaller one, like a female or a youngling, but let's say if I'd be about the same weight class.

I'd move in so fast in and under and start grappling, ju jitsu it on the ground likely with a leg sweep and a throw, then move my way into a rear naked chokehold, just choke the sucker out.

I also think I can outrun a Komodo Dragon with a piece of raw meat strapped to me on a 5 meter length rope. I can outrun it without the rope, but for insurance reasons I'd rather not.

I am also (kind of) joking and only mean all of it in good humor. :)

Edit: Although... Getting into a kicking session could maybe kind of work. Kangs got range, of course, but let it come at me with one of those tail-standing-leg kicks and me countering with a mofunking low kick to its shins or the quads and see how it feels after that. I also think they might get tired quickly doing that shit, although they're wild animals so I'm not so sure.

Edit again: Also, don't forget that humans can also bite and gouge out eyes and headbutt and kick em in the groin, every groin equipped animal underestimates the kick to the groin.

Edit once more: Of course most importantly, humans can also love, and everyone underestimates the power of love.
