If you want things to just work: Chromecast with Android TV, plus PiHole or Adguard to pull out of all the telemetry and advertising (except maybe Amazon Prime's new stuff).

Also, Google at least gives you the possibility to pull out of the personalized stuff and doesn't work much with 3rd party advertiser's. And those they work with are being taken care of with PiHole and Adguard.

You can't store the power in EVs for weeks and weeks and also you can't move it around on a whim, without loosing that stored energy.

The electricity for Hydrogen isn't bound to any place. If they put up 10 offshore wind turbines exclusively for Hydrogen, that hydrogen can be shipped around the country as needed and wanted. That's not possible with Grid power and especially not when they have different systems in place.

I've been on the hydrogen bandwagon for years, but the fact of the matter is, E-Fuels and HVO Diesel is an actual, viable option now, especially with efficiency reaching ever higher numbers year after year. 5 Years ago, one liter of E-Fuel was around 3-4 Euros (projected), now it's around 80 cents.

There is nothing cheaper than just changing out fossile fuels for sustainable and carbon neutral (maybe even carbon negative, because some company's are already thinking about putting a part of the saved carbon in the ground for long term storage, because it's going to be cheaper with co2 taxes to just put a part of that away for good) stuff and just using existing infrastructure.

The 25-30% of people that are going to be getting EVs are easily buffered with the existing grids.

You will not have lost 3%. You will have lost 30-40% - because no Airport has (and probably never will have) Parking, where you can leave your EV plugged in.

No, it doesn't dribble on the floored, but to keep the battery conditioned takes a lot of energy. There are countless post around all sorts of forums where the battery was empty after 2 weeks, because cooking the battery in the summer heat took a lot of energy.
And you can't leave an EV plugged in at the Airport.

Transporting hydrogen is cheaper than having to rebuild a whole power grid.

Maybe easier, but not cheaper. Transporting hydrogen around is already being done as well - you don't have to develop the wheel again.

No idea, but HVO100 is around 1,82 Euros per liter where I fuel up and it's considered an "E-Fuel".

Porsche projects around 2 Euros per liter in 2025. By 2025 the fossile fuel prices are expected to be above that due to the co2 taxes.
However, that's not the "final" state of the plant, which is expected to be done by 2028 for 500 Million Liters a year. 2025 is 55 Million liters a year...

That's the case for Germany or the UK, not Japan. Bit different there.

nexusband ,
@nexusband@lemmy.world avatar

No it isn't. Toyota and Hyundai have had tanks for years now that are not leaking anything. Same goes for Linde.

IF you go down that route, there needs to be a warning: Do it properly, use a VPN if you are torrenting, get a usenet account if you want fast speeds that encrypts the connection and so on - basically, teach it correct. Because some countries or rather law agencies WILL hunt you down if they even get some hint of your actual IP-Address...

@nexusband@lemmy.world avatar

Exactly. And these things are on an internal bus network, but they are not connected to the internet.

@nexusband@lemmy.world avatar

Then don't do it. Simple as that.

Yeah, Anarchy is such a good thing to teach AI, Kids and others...

Never considered buying Haier anyway, but i am looking specifically for appliances that have HAOS support. So them pulling this shit will put them on my black list for ever. I get why Mazda did it, but the car doesn't need the app to be useful, i can just ignore that part. But this is an home appliance that looses a big part of it's usefulness...

For the Europeans, look up AEG, Bauknecht, Electrolux, Liebherr...sad story as well. And one hell of a case for rampant capitalism running amok...

nexusband ,
@nexusband@lemmy.world avatar

Nope, they are not, at least in terms of household appliances. BUT they still produce quality stuff in Germany and Europe. And they actually never have been separate. And HomeConnect is commited to HAOS, iirc they actually provide some code to the plugin.

There's a difference between rampant capitalism running amok and the free market...free always needs rules, or it would be anarchy...
