i lile where you are coming from but keep in mind that a mandatory voting system with no other measures would backfire pretty quick due to a lack of infrastructure.
the US establishment benefits from about 1/3 of the population not voting, with a good chunk of those being literally unable to attend polls due to inaccessibility and long lines in combination with not getting the day off. attempts to increase voting turnout are met with extreme and immediate hostility. see the recent backlash against taylor swift simply telling people to register to vote.
same goes for preferential voting/abolishing FPTP. it’s not so much crazy it doesn’t exist yet as par for the course. the entire country is fucked, not just a couple voting measures that americans are too lazy to implement or something.
