[Short Film] HYPER-REALITY (www.youtube.com)
This 6-minute short film does such an incredible job of imagining how far augmented reality could go. Just pop-ups and advertisements everywhere.

About a week ago I posted a rumor that Robert Pattinson could potentially play Case in Apple TV+'s Neuromancer series. That series is now officially announced at Apple TV+ but they only named the showrunners (no cast). I assume this means Pattinson declined the role, otherwise they would've mentioned him. Or maybe they're...
Remember Me is a fun 3rd-person cyberpunk beat 'em up. It takes place in Neo Paris but also, a lot of the game takes place during the day. And there isn't constant rain or clouds, it's actually sunny. It's weird how few cyberpunk games ever actually show the sun....
If you haven't seen Space Sweepers, definitely check it out. It's a fun "cyberpunk in space" Korean movie. It's pretty light-hearted (no deep philosophical discussions here) but it really hits on all the cyberpunk tropes....
The SNES version of Shadowrun doesn't really give you any idea what the game is...
Goku Midnight Eye is another crazy hyper-violent cyberpunk anime from the 80s. It's about a private investigator who has a cybernetic eye which gives him god-like powers over all electronics on the planet (and off-planet, he can control satellites). And he uses that power... to solve his cases....
I think this one is a pretty safe recommendation. I found it on a list of protocyberpunk stories a few years ago, and it looks like it shows up on similar lists fairly often, but I think it better qualifies just as early cyberpunk. It was published a month after Neuromancer, and Shiner thanks Gibson and Sterling for their help...
The Ascent has so much world-building and unique characters that I'm surprised it isn't based on an existing book series, anime, or TTRPG. Yet it's the debut game from a studio with 12 people. That's crazy to me....
This is the last of my crossposts, I'm writing up a new book recommendation right now. cross-posted from: https://slrpnk.net/post/1381483...
Tokyo Ghost is about a cyberpunk world where most people are addicted to the internet and reality TV. The main character's boyfriend is so addicted he can barely talk. But the two of them are offered a job that involves going to the one last nature preserve on earth, Tokyo. The main character thinks this will be a great...
Including any movies, video games, books, anime, etc. What's your favorite cyberpunk horror?...
2047: Virtual Revolution is about a cyberpunk world where 75% of humanity spends all their time in virtual reality. A group of terrorists are killing people who are logged in, so a giant corporation hires a trench-coat wearing private investigator to put a stop to it....
This video is only 4 minutes long but it's still tough to watch the whole thing. It's really bad. But it's also what cyberpunk looked like in the late 80s/early 90s.
In the 90s, Marvel created the 2099 storyline which re-introduced a couple existing characters in the year 2099 (like Dr. Doom 2099 and Spider-man 2099). Of those characters, I think Ghost Rider 2099 was the most cyberpunk....
What kids movies would you consider to be cyberpunk? That is, not cyberpunk movies that happen to lack adult themes (like maybe Tron) but movies that are intentionally marketed towards kids and happen to be cyberpunk?...
Mr. Robot did an amazing job of making a "modern day" cyberpunk story. It takes place in the real world yet has everything you would want from a cyberpunk show. But even with how amazing it was, I don't know if I could re-visit the show after watching it when it was new....
If you've never seen Cyber City Oedo 808, you really need to. It's a classic cyberpunk anime and only 3 episodes long, so it isn't much of a commitment....
"Neon Blood is a 2.5D tactical action-adventure RPG developed by ChaoticBrain Studios. Players will embody Axel McCoin, a detective from the megacity of Viridis out to rebel against the injustices caused by the drastic class differences within the city. Become a mark of the revolution by dispatching dangerous enemies, using...
Steam Next Fest is going on right now and I thought "I should make a list of fun cyberpunk demos to try!" And then I looked at what cyberpunk demos were available. It's weird. I still decided to make a list of at least... interesting games I found....
Cross-posting this recommendation I made back on Cyberpunk@lemmy.villa-straylight.social from: https://slrpnk.net/post/1483143 because it's still a good read and I'm not sure how well known it is....
Elysium hits all the themes of a cyberpunk movie. It has high-tech low-lifes, it has corporations in total control, it has a massive inequality gap, it has technology leading to dehumanization. But what it doesn't have, is neon-lit rainy streets at night....
This is the pilot episode of an animated series that was never picked up. It's about a cyberpunk world where you die if you have sex. So the premise is pretty ridiculous, but the animation is fantastic. Also, this "pilot episode" is only 7min long....
If you go to the Amazon kindle store and look at the Cyberpunk category, you'll find nothing but LitRPG. And while I have nothing against LitRPG as a genre, it isn't cyberpunk. And it's making it impossible for me to actually find new cyberpunk books....
Sad news. I really enjoyed the recent Deus Ex games. Sucks they got bought out by a company that apparently has no plans to actually release new games.
