First Incremental Game Developer

Hi everyone!

My name is Sphynxmods and today I'd like to come to you with some questions, but generally also to say hi, as I am hoping to create my very own Incremental Game!

I completed my last year of school just now and I've had some experience in Game Development (sort of) from the past few years. Technically I started modding World of Warcraft when I was 12, but those were almost always small adjustments or new/custom items.

After my time on World of Warcraft in 2016, I started on my journey for Black Ops 3 Mod tools, which I have created a, if I say so myself, 'pretty successful' mod which is being played by a large community.

Because of this community, the time spent on the mod and me ending school, I've decided to step up my game, and create a game I've always wanted to make!

I am fairly new to the genre but I've always wanted to create an Incremental Building Game and starting February I will be taking a full year to develop the game and hope to bring it out on Steam, at least that's the plan!

I have been studying UX/UI design in Amsterdam, so I have a good understanding of UI design and how this can be implemented to make sure the player gets a 'hopefully' amazing experience using the interface, I hope that this comes in handy and I will be able to tackle some of the issues I see within other Incremental Games {Like a generally oversaturated HUD/UI, and too many options, not concise and visible options and lack of information in some}

My Incremental Game:

I am still in the very early stage of writing everything down, but have decided on a name;

Settlements: A New Age!

The idea of this game is more focussed on resource management but allows the player to help the automation by clicking and gathering resources. You start off by always fully manually gathering resources for each new tech/resource you can get and slowly but steadily allow for it to be automated, with upgrades!

It's going to be a medieval kind of era, where you start off with gathering wood, stone and food and work your way up to stuff like Planks, Coal, Iron, Gems and more!

There are so many ideas but the biggest factor of the game is going to be using the marketplace to allow yourself to trade resources with one another and sell goods you make by combining resources and focussing on specific 'jobs'. {Gather Wood > Use Lumber Mill to gain Planks > Create Furniture > Sell for profit on the Marketplace} or {Gather Wood > Gather Iron Ore > Use Refinery to smelt Iron Ore into Iron Ingots > Create Iron Tool > Sell for Profit}

This allows the player to choose their own path and use different methods to build up your Settlement. The game let's the player choose what they want to focus on; Wood Production, Coal Mining, Tool making, Armor Making, Gem Cutting and so much more.

A lot of the game mechanics still have to be thoughout, which I am going to take a full month for to make sure it's all set in stone before I take the first steps into actually opening an editor and programming, but I believe that this could become a really engaging new Idle/Incremental game and hope you guys are interested!

Any feedback, any comments or suggestions let me know! I am eager to start working on this, and hope to have as much feedback and input of this Reddit and it's users to create the 'perfect' Idle/Incremental Game!

My questions:

- What are you generally looking for in an Incremental Game?

- What kind of stuff do you hate in these types of games?

- Are you interested in Settlements: A New Age?

- If this becomes a reality, what would you like to see? (Can be anything from general use, to personal ideas)

- If you have any questions for me, don't hesitate as I am ready to answer them all!

Much Love,

Sphynxmods
