There is no scientific consensus that social media is harmful to children's mental health. The Surgeon General’s claims are extraordinarily misguided and speech-chilling.

Ever since I published my illustrated rant about leaving , fellow freelancers and artists have been reaching out to me saying:

“I’d love to do that too, but I don’t know how else to reach my audience.”

I wrote this mega resource to offer some ideas on how others may find their buyers without depending on social media:

The fact that we can’t remove essential complexity with a software redesign doesn’t mean that there’s nothing we can do about it. What if the problem definition wasn’t outside of our purview? What if we could get the world to conform to the software, and not just the other way around?

Don’t worry! There’s probably an AI tool that’ll neatly revise it down to the precise target length. Even in iambic pentameter! 😬🤪😁🙄

WCAG 3 Working Draft is updated and ready for your input.

This draft includes potential outcomes that we are exploring. The purpose of this draft is to:

  • better understand the scope of user needs and how they could be addressed in an accessibility standard,
  • request assistance in identifying possible gaps, and
  • request assistance locating and conducting research to validate or invalidate the outcomes listed.

Find out more about WCAG 3 and how you can comment from https://w3.org/WAI/wcag3

Congress continues to push for censorship bills to "protect the kids" online rather than passing comprehensive privacy laws that would protect all users from predatory data gathering and sales that target us for advertising and abuse.

We detail what a comprehensive data privacy law should look like here at https://eff.org/privacyfirst

The New York Times senses "authoritarian overtones" in Trump's loudly stated plans to wreck our democracy.

Ya think?

Currently working on an important first update to Tusks that will address many of the early pain points/limitations. Should be submitted for App Store review no later than tomorrow night.

(Will respond to all @’s as soon as I can.)

I managed to carve enough pockets of time over the weekend to get this update done asap. Thanks everyone for your patience. 1.07 is now available: https://midnight-beanie-ccb.notion.site/Changelog-92a8ce131cf24ac786180db0f619c236?pvs=4 This will be the first of many :) Have a great week!

Tusks 1.16 went out over the weekend with important fixes to the Pins screen. Entries will be presented the same as on the Posts screen, and they should all appear at launch (regardless of when you updated them last) https://midnight-beanie-ccb.notion.site/Changelog-92a8ce131cf24ac786180db0f619c236?pvs=4. Another smaller update on its way soon too.

One technology which I think deserves more hype (it is getting a little) are Conflict-free Replicated Data Types (CRDTs)!

I made sure to include it in my exploration of a minimal yet inclusive OS (upcoming page), quote:

"In just the past decade Computer Science brought us the concept of CRDTs! Which represents your document as a series of edits, which combine such that no matter in which order these edits you recieved we get the same result!

You need to take action against NOW.

If things go as "expert groups" in the EU have planned, ChatControl might pass on the 19th of June.

Contact your representatives and tell them to vote a clear NO; to count abstentions as formal disagreements.

There are many challenges when designing federated applications. Here I share thoughts that I've been developing with the Commune group, as we envision a fediverse of agents, not a fediverse of servers.

Are you ready for the release of 4.8??

zwarf ,
@zwarf@social.anoxinon.de avatar

@darktable Yes, really looking forward! I really love how fast Darktable is evolving. Thanks a lot to all the developers! I am right now editing a whole wedding shooting and I am glad there is no cloud, AI or license bullshit I have to deal with, and no need to use Windows. Just editing images and my customers love the results.
