Is it really, really, really, really, really, really bad that the publisher of the @washingtonpost allegedly counseled British government officials to destroy evidence in an official investigation?
Bluesky has reply-gating (you can set who can reply to a post, like people you follow or a given list or no one) and is now testing out post-publication reply locking.
I just want to yell for a second about how humane and consent-forward these features are, especially after seeing some people here losing their minds when someone asked for gating recently because they felt (alas, not a paraphrase) entitled to always be able to respond.
Today is a personal highlight because I was a guest in one of my favourite podcasts @techwontsaveus talking about tech in Europe and the topic of innovation.
It's been such a treat to get to speak to @parismarx, hope you enjoy it as well.
@publixpace it's legitimately hilarious how I still get comments (and even emails!) from people who feel the need to "correct" me on my flags in my "winter cycling" video.
As if I wouldn't know the flags of Belgium and the Netherlands when I've lived in both countries.
Or how I could somehow use the wrong flag from Wikipedia when the country name is literally in the filename.
The best part is that they only ever notice one and don't realise that the other one is wrong, too. 🤣
“Nearly 2,000 children under five are dying every day from air pollution, which has overtaken poor sanitation and a lack of clean water to become the second biggest health risk factor for young children around the world.
“Currently about 2/3rds of all Dutch children walk or bike to school, with 75% of secondary school kids cycling to school. By enabling safe and active travel, #Dutch cities prevent an estimated one million car journeys to school each morning.” — @modacitylife in #CurbingTraffic
The Fediverse is built on open standard protocols. Testing that implementations conform to those standards is important for interoperability. That's what we are working on with the FediTest project.
Here's a first draft report of Webfinger server conformance for almost 100 Fediverse applications. A total of 1615 tests were run.
The EU patting their own shoulder via Gartner. Meanwhile, the W3C Data Exchange WG is drying out because the claimed support is not arriving there. But EVERYONE is using DCAT without supporting its development and maintenance. Which is a very European thing to do.
While NGI is a really nice & useful programme "a liaison" is NOT contributing to ActivityPub dear Gartner!
I still fully support NGI, but invite projects to really go into WGs.
The planned #chatcontrol makes the world less secure and more authoritarian, as it is directed against private and encrypted communication. Proponents are using disinformation, lies, and sleight of hand to push through the project. But chat control can still be stopped. A commentary.
🚨 INTRODUCING: a new in-progress #rubyonrails#activitypub engine that aims to make it able to add AP features to any Rails app.
It's still a work in progress but i would really love to hear your feedback and ideas on that! Feel free to message me here or open a discussion on github repo.
