Vandaag heeft de consumentenbond een artikel gepubliceerd over de tarieven van internet en de marktmacht van KPN en VodafoneZiggo. Een boeiende inkijk in de telecommarkt.

We're not just an Instagram alternative!

Collections allow you to group posts together, like a recent trip, or a bunch of recipes (like Pinterest)

Portfolios highlight a curated list of your posts with a unique URL and customization (like DeviantArt)

Groups are a way to explore communities based on shared interests/topics (like Flickr)

We continue to develop features for artists, photographers and everyone in between! ✨

The phrase 'Open Standards' is widely used but not well-understood. Let's take a look at what openness in standards is, with a focus on whether and how it helps to legitimise the design and maintenance of the Internet.

We're putting out a survey to instance admins, regarding the size, operational costs, and community funding of instances. The survey is very brief, and completely anonymous. We hope to compile this data into a report in the near future.

This is such an embarassingly human centred headline: "The 'smart' animal club keeps getting bigger" - No! It was always huge!

It is humanity that is very slowly and reluctantly getting smarter at recognising the smartness of animals.

Also, please don't rank animal's smartnesses. That's just awful. Species are highly adapted to their environment. For some, that brings them closer to our very human - and thus not at al universal - definition of smartness. That's all.

Oh well.

A pot of coffee, then back to my C compiler.

Trying to make a difference the only way I know how - building systems to help us communicate so we can fix this mess.

Group communication. The essential democratic tool.

Multicast.

A nice experiment on the forkability of non-trivial software:

I think forking is underrated in today's FLOSS world. It's the best protection against community lock-in.

We were brainstorming for a name for the deadly speed inducing roundabouts NA loves to build and we found one : a carnado
If one of you ever makes a video mentioning them I'd love to hear that name, not just because it's funny but a good catchy and a self explaining name is a formidable advocacy tool

reply by @therealergo: How about a "car tornado" reply by @book_1312 : THE CARNADO I love it, not likely to end up as official as stroad, but it's is a very catchy advocacy term reply by @bryanculbertson : Roundabouts intended for speeding cars are officially called a "Carnado" in my book now

Picking up on a cluster of topics I previously discussed here: https://merveilles.town/@lrhodes/112639145917059317 I still see some people putting politics behind a CW on fedi, but I don't see as many people insisting on it as did once upon a time. The norm is still in practice, but has been largely overwhelmed by norms people brought with them from other platforms. In particular, Twitter—though political discourse isn't as broadly caustic here as it was there. At least, not most of the time.

The @EUCommission wastes our tax payer money to team up with the and notorious villain and sue the EU data protection agency @EDPS because the Commission wants to continue to use the software shitshow.

How low can this institution sink?
