Proposition. If Biden does decide to withdraw, and the party machinery somehow bypasses the Black woman who is already on the ticket, the Democratic Party will disintegrate and never recover.
@JamesGleick The overwhelming likelihood is that Harris would take over, especially if Biden endorsed her or (gasp) resigned the presidency entirely. I'd personally like to see a lively, spirited competition, lots of interesting nominating speeches, lots of balloting. It'd capture the public imagination. As for what happens if Harris loses, we don't know. A lot of it would depend on how she takes a loss.
Adam Mosseri is tamping down #fediverse expectations for Threads. As a UK user, I've certainly noticed that things haven't happened very fast! But I also sense frustration on their part re European rules especially -> "The fediverse is a long-term bet. It isn't driving a lot of Threads growth. It is proving very difficult just to do the basics, particularly from a compliance and a privacy perspective. The standards we're held to are just different, based on our scale." https://www.platformer.news/threads-175-million-users-adam-mosseri-interview/
@EUCommission can you recommend some recent discourse about ‘GDPR requests on AI products’?
I just feel like as a EU citizen (well, I’m Norwegian so that’s a little complicated, heh, but kindly humor me), I should be able to request a data export from ChatGPT and the rest of them.
If they used any of my data in their training I..
Want my copy of that data, and
I want to opt out of them continuing to store and process that data
@notjustbikes
Any idea why more % people die on bicycles in NL compared to Germany?
I always thought its the other way around. Especially for bikes! As the Dutch infrastructure feels much safer and easier to use. Is this all down to helmets?
The share of people riding their bike is almost double in NL compared to DE. Yet there are 2x, 3x as many cyclist dying in NL compared to Germany....
@jalcine I've said in the past that much of the fediverse software feels like missed opportunity, by pretty much recreating the same dynamics of chasing followers and likes. I see this behavior even with the lack of algorithms that would further promote it.
I don't really have an answer here, and I do think these metrics can be helpful in some ways, but I am hoping to see more ideas in this area.
@mia lol this is why I don't watch urbanist content made by Americans.
They have no idea what they're talking about and their total lack of knowledge relates to anything outside of America means they don't even know how wrong they are. 😂

@kenney
Was just thinking about you. Headed over to Twitter-hell for a moment or two, and your name was everywhere! Hope you're ok. Keep creating .. hugs
Didn't get a whole lot done yesterday (was a bad day for me), but I did do this small change to hopefully improve support in Mastodon for content federated in east asian languages: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/pull/30897
Thanks to @hongminhee for raising this issue to my attention
🇩🇪Europaabgeordnete aus vier Fraktionen - Konservative bis Linke - fordern Schutz vor extraterritorialen Übergriffen der USA und Chinas auf unsere Daten.

It won’t happen quickly—and with Republicans in power it won’t happen at all—but we need to begin taking power from our rogue Supreme Court. Like this: https://hci.social/@bkeegan/112718009105258956
@JamesGleick What's weird is that this will be seen as a partisan attack. When it actually applies to everyone equally. But that's the point and a big part of the problem.
