Horseshoe theory is dumb, but it's really just an observation of the loudest ideologies on the far left and far right, which both happen to be authoritarian. Authoritarianism becomes necessary as you move toward the extremes because you have to coerce some people/classes to accept the system. And it's true that real-world instances of both Fascism and Communism have been authoritarian, and so they share some things in common. It isn't a particularly nuanced or deep understanding, but it is true that authoritarian forms of gov't are authoritarian. The difference lies in the details. Communists used authoritarianism against capitalists and the nobility, and fascists used it against minorities. Horseshoe theory conflates "authoritarianism" with extreme Left and Right-wing ideologies. This contrasts against anarchism (and by extension the broad anti fascist movement), of course, which is extremely anti-authoritarian (hence why horseshoe theory completely falls apart here).

This isn't about the world. It's about a specific conflict. Conflicts are us vs. them by definition. The takeover of the American gov't by increasingly corporatist and fascist leaders is absolutely them vs. the American people, but also affects everyone in the world.

There are two ways to win this conflict. 1) Violent revolution by disorganized leftists against the most powerful military the world has ever seen, 2) voting to prevent full-on fascism and limit corporatism while building class consciousness and organizing better. The second scenario is obviously more likely to succeed, given the current state of the American left.

Mushroom ID requires a lot more than just immediately available visuals. You've gotta see what the cap looks like, the stem, how the stem connects to the cap, the specific characteristics of the gills, the substrate it's growing in, and the spore print (i.e. leave it on a piece of white paper, covered, for a number of hours undisturbed so it drops its spores). And even then it can be tough if the mushroom is abnormal or is decaying at all.

With enough info, I'm sure you could train an ML model to ID mushrooms. But you'd need to give it a lot of info to make a successful ID.

Dude also claims that his Great Dane (that he developed this food for) lived to be like 27 years old or somthing stupid like that. Great Danes live like 5-7 years, typically. Maybe like 10 on the outside if they don't die of bone cancer first (they get that a lot as a genetic side effect of being bred to be huge). The oldest confirmed dog ever was supposedly 31 years old (https://www.npr.org/2023/10/25/1208478868/bobi-worlds-oldest-dog-dies-portuguese), but these sort of age record-breaking dogs are highly suspect in general because dog life expectancy is pretty consistent by breed.

No. This is not legally correct in the US. Discrimination can be direct (women have to RTO, but men don't) or indirect (everyone has to RTO, but women are statistically way more likely to be forced to quit their jobs due to the change). This is called disparate impact and is a serious issue.

Now, is this happening in this case? Possibly. Likely too early to tell.

Dell specifically has been super gung ho on work from home. Michael Dell had some article in Forbes or something a couple years ago that was hyping how great WFH had been for the company. They were actually paying people to WFH since it saved the company money. Dell's business model benefitted heavily from WFH since companies had to buy more computers and peripherals to support a remote workforce.

So, the "return" to office seems like a pretty naked attempt to cause people to quit without having to pay severance.

Hey OP, just in case you didn't gather this from the various other comments, in political science, Liberalism refers to a specific movement (think John Locke, social contract theory, abolishing various aristocratic privilaeges, etc) but can be applied to modern political philosophies too. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liberalism

Liberalism in media terms often means something quite different depending where you are in the world. But, it typically refers to something like this: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_liberalism. Pro-market, pro-welfare (to a limited degree), somewhat focused on individual freedoms, etc. It's a wide-ranging term and can cover anything from as far right as America's gov't to as far left as something like Sweden's.
