Microsoft is once again injecting pop-up ads into Google Chrome on Windows in a bid to get people to switch to Bing (www.theverge.com)

The software giant first introduced malware-like pop-up ads last year with a prompt that appeared over the top of other apps and windows. After pausing that notification to address “unintended behavior,” the pop-ups have returned again on Windows 10 and 11....

While I actually do that, you cannot seriously recommend it to anyone. Hardly any site works without Javascript nowadays.

Sometimes it's great. If people complain about paywalls, for example, and you didn't even see the pop-up.

    Every social media platform with a feed uses some system to rank content for its individual users. This can be abused to subtly influence users.

    You say TikTok has never harmed you but the truth is you probably wouldn't know. You just changed your mind about certain things over time.

    That problem is certainly not specific to TikTok and I personally avoid also YouTube, Reddit or anything Facebook but it's not hard to believe that a Chinese or Russian platform is even less hesitant to influence elections, for example.

    Just because software vendors legally made it that way doesn't make it right. Also probably the main reason, many people don't have any qualms pirating.

    "The world" back then also was something like a town and its surrounding villages. It probably just rained really heavy for a few days, flooded some village in a way that never happened before and the only explanation was "God's wrath".

    I believe most of religious stories can be explained by people talking shit.

    It’s effectively a dumb monitor.

    I may be old-fashioned but that's the only thing a TV is supposed to be. You choose how to use it by its periphery.

    I just followed the note that's mentioned on the top of your link and installed the Nvidia driver as dkms package. I originally did that because of trouble with a new driver version and temporary downgrading is much smoother with dkms.

    Also never had issues with the DE starting properly after upgrade since then.

    No idea what you mean. I just quickly wanted to update before calling it a night, got a grub update and now it neither boots the default nor the fallback image. I use Arch BTW.
