I like both too, I just don't get why people hate feathered dinosaurs.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Despite there being a huge overlap between the three, they all hate each other.

Why would I do that when reddit shitposters from 10 years ago have already done it for me?

Microsoft starts bundling Windows 11 with its 'PC optimizer' app in some regions (www.neowin.net)

PC optimizers are not a new concept, and they have been around for quite a while. Nowadays, many consider them unnecessary, but having an official program made by Microsoft that is capable of (allegedly) speeding up your PC may sound quite appealing....

Oh so they're just straight up including malware with windows now. Cool.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Same honestly. Like it was a hunk of junk that didn't work half the time, but I think people kinda forget that the scope was pretty ambitious. Being able to scan people's bodies and get each limb's position in 3D, and to do so in many different lighting conditions and room setups, is stuff we still barely have working today even with AI.

Like don't get me wrong, the tech was jank as fuck, but as a kid it was genuinely really cool.

I can get behind this. This is the only time evo psych is real.

You should really start using profanity more. It's really fucking fun

I'm in the fourth camp of "I used to think I had zero artistic talent, and so I was really hyped for AI art to get good, but then I actually got half decent at art myself, and now I don't want people to fall into this hole like I did because they think they're too technical minded or it's too late for them to learn art", which may or may not just be the second camp.

I acknowledge there are people who genuinely enjoy doing AI art, and I have seen some good creative stuff done with it. But I think there's not enough focus on learning that art for yourself, and I side with the "soul creativity" camp on the argument that there is some aspect of human-made art that won't ever be replicated by AI.

I get this but with college offers.

It's like "tour our campus this weekend!". My brother in christ I am 5 years into a 4 year course.

I'd point you to godot but I'm pretty biased because I just really love godot.

I will say though that depending on the scope of the project you have planned, it might not be best to make your dream project your first one. Test the waters with a few really small games first, and then once you're comfortable and know your tools well enough do your big idea.

Technically linux users need third party tools to even boot into a usable OS.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Replace C with javascript and it'd be more accurate imo.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I'm talking more about a language that's just everywhere it doesn't need to be. But I guess that's also my hatred for JS speaking.

AI is a marketing term, the association is a deliberate choice by companies trying to market "the future"

All engineers are enemies of the state now

I have never really seen arch or gentoo unironically pitched to new users. However, I have seen new users try to use arch because they didn't get the joke.

Have been to New Jersey, lyrics check out.

I love how I knew who this is without even reading the caption

House of Leaves. It's a book that's been around for a bit, but I believe that it got popular with the zoomers because it was an inspiration for myhouse.wad

96% of US Hospital Websites Share Visitor Data with Google, Meta, Data Brokers, and Other Third Parties, Study Finds (www.theregister.com)

Academics at the University of Pennsylvania analyzed a nationally representative sample of 100 non-federal acute care hospitals – essentially traditional hospitals with emergency departments – and their findings were that 96 percent of their websites transmitted user data to third parties....

This is the result of running hospitals like businesses

X automatically changed 'Twitter' to 'X' in domain names, breaking legit URLs (mashable.com)

On Monday, it appears X attempted to encourage users to cease referring to it as Twitter and instead adopt the name X. Some users began noticing that posts viewed via X for iOS were changing any references of "Twitter.com" to "X.com" automatically....

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I don't get why he's so stubborn on X dot com being a thing. Especially since when I hear dot com I think of the 90s or early 2000s, and specifically the dot com bubble.

x.social or x.net sound way cooler tbh.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yes but to a lesser extent. The name Twitter doesn't sound like it's trying to be "cool internet thing" as much as X

Another way to look at this: The solar infrastructure that is affected by the eclipse alone can generate roughly 30 GW

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I see more posts complaining about annoying arch users than I actually see annoying arch users

That being said, hell yeah mint

Man that'd make my browsing experience exponentially better

Vinyls break easily and sound kinda meh, even with decent equipment. CDs have fairly good quality and are easy to store and handle. Honestly I get why people like vinyl, big discs are fun and tinkering with analog stuff is its own hobby, but when it comes to collecting I prefer CDs.

VR pretty much just worked for me with my vive. Had some issues with weird stuttering and tearing but I managed to find a solution in some config file.

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Can't think of the most difficult problem, but I have managed to solve a lot of problems with btrfs snapshots.

DumbAceDragon OP ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

Even more real linux experience: The turn signal is well documented, labeled really obviously, and anyone will point you in the proper direction, but when you use them the brakes stop working because of an undocumented bug in a proprietary windshield wiper driver, and only you seem to have this problem.

DumbAceDragon OP ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I know, I meant this mostly ironically. Also, the arch colors fit the car much better so I didn't have to change those.

DumbAceDragon OP ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I know, it's a joke lol

DumbAceDragon ,
@DumbAceDragon@sh.itjust.works avatar

I've only ever seen a zoomer start the fight like once. Every other time I"ve seen this generation wars bullshit it was some kinda "kids these days" comment from someone who's only a few years older than most zoomers.

Other than that, most zoomers I know are usually in on the joke.
