[Anime] Goku Midnight Eye is a crazy 2-episode cyberpunk OVA (lemmy.zip)

Goku Midnight Eye is another crazy hyper-violent cyberpunk anime from the 80s. It's about a private investigator who has a cybernetic eye which gives him god-like powers over all electronics on the planet (and off-planet, he can control satellites). And he uses that power... to solve his cases....

I just realized I typically include a trailer for anyone who hasn't heard of whatever I'm posting about. So, here's a trailer for the game.

[Comic] Tokyo Ghost is a great 10-issue cyberpunk comic (lemmy.zip)

Tokyo Ghost is about a cyberpunk world where most people are addicted to the internet and reality TV. The main character's boyfriend is so addicted he can barely talk. But the two of them are offered a job that involves going to the one last nature preserve on earth, Tokyo. The main character thinks this will be a great...

[Movie] 2047: Virtual Revolution is a good low-budget cyberpunk movie (lemmy.zip)

2047: Virtual Revolution is about a cyberpunk world where 75% of humanity spends all their time in virtual reality. A group of terrorists are killing people who are logged in, so a giant corporation hires a trench-coat wearing private investigator to put a stop to it....

[TV] Mr. Robot was a fantastic show but I don't know if I could re-watch it (lemmy.zip)

Mr. Robot did an amazing job of making a "modern day" cyberpunk story. It takes place in the real world yet has everything you would want from a cyberpunk show. But even with how amazing it was, I don't know if I could re-visit the show after watching it when it was new....

[Game] Neon Blood :: Trailer Welcome to Viridis (www.youtube.com)

"Neon Blood is a 2.5D tactical action-adventure RPG developed by ChaoticBrain Studios. Players will embody Axel McCoin, a detective from the megacity of Viridis out to rebel against the injustices caused by the drastic class differences within the city. Become a mark of the revolution by dispatching dangerous enemies, using...

[Movie] I think Elysium is the best example of a cyberpunk movie that *doesn't* rely on the 80s aesthetic (lemmy.zip)

Elysium hits all the themes of a cyberpunk movie. It has high-tech low-lifes, it has corporations in total control, it has a massive inequality gap, it has technology leading to dehumanization. But what it doesn't have, is neon-lit rainy streets at night....

What would you say is the defining cyberpunk work of each decade? (lemmy.zip)

In my mind, the "Big Three" cyberpunk novels are Neuromancer, Snow Crash, and Altered Carbon. If someone is new to the genre and asks what they need to read, these are the three I recommend. But I realized the other day that each book also comes from a different decade....

[Anime] I think Appleseed: Ex Machina is the most cyberpunk of the Appleseed movies (lemmy.zip)

Appleseed is a strange franchise. Made by Masamune Shirow (the creator of Ghost in the Shell), Appleseed never seemed to reach the same popularity as Ghost in the Shell so all attempts at creating Appleseed movies have always felt somewhat low-budget to me. Also, they usually feel more like military scifi than cyberpunk....

[Anime] Metallic Rouge - maybe cyberpunk? (www.youtube.com)

This series just started airing on Crunchyroll. It looks like your standard Blade Runner setup with androids co-existing with humans until some androids go rogue and need to be stopped. And yet the trailer has random shots of like mech suits fighting (or whatever it's called when it's just scifi armor). So I really don't know...

After lemmy.villa-straylight.social shut down I picked lemdro.id at random as my new instance. But it seems lemdro.id has trouble federating with this instance so my original reply to this post never sync'd. Now I've created a local account on lemmy.zip so hopefully my posts won't disappear.

Anyway, I'm the person who was trying to grow !cyberpunk with an attempt to post something every day, just to keep the community active. I was identity-disc on that instance. And I'm still bitter about the fact that the instance disappeared just as we hit 1.0k subscribers.

So now I'm trying to do the same thing here. Again, I'm trying to post something every day. Not every post will be gold but my goal is really just to show constant activity. I'm trying to post a mix of movies, anime, tv, games, whatever. And I'm trying not to re-use any old posts from villa-straylight.

One thing I don't care about is news articles. Or specifically, what I consider the articles that belong on r/aboringdystopia. I'm interested in cyberpunk as a genre, not the real world going to shit. So I might post news articles about upcoming games or movies but I'm not going to post news articles about whatever stupid thing Amazon did recently that feels dystopian.

@BrikoX, I assume you're good with this? I probably could've sent this as a private message but I might as well introduce myself at the same time with this post. And thanks for making this community!
