Hi.

I work with and for most of the major tech companies worldwide and yes, we are listening to your cell phone even when you turn off the settings.

Do a little research on Sony and “the garden”.

Jakdracula ,
@Jakdracula@lemmy.world avatar

I did, above.

There are several large companies that actively listen though your phone and IoT and use the collected audio to advertise to you.

It’s just going around Ukraine, isn’t it?

I was going to to ask the same thing. Up over two dollars in premarket trading.

Tesla’s in its flop era (www.theverge.com)

When Tesla releases its first quarter earnings this afternoon, the company’s CEO Elon Musk will field the usual questions about new products, new factories, and progress toward its futuristic vision of self-driving cars and robot workers. But Musk will also face increasingly urgent questions about its current state of affairs...

Not entirely sure what the problem is here.

Jakdracula ,
@Jakdracula@lemmy.world avatar

I’m not trying to be contrarian or rude or a troll. I just am not following why this is a problem. Can you elaborate?

Jakdracula ,
@Jakdracula@lemmy.world avatar

Telephones made the telegraph employees obsolete. Cars made the horses obsolete. Progress moves on.

Well,  Ralph Nader certainly was the catalist and voice that spelled the end of the Corvair and Pinto many years ago.

Jakdracula ,
@Jakdracula@lemmy.world avatar

Who the hell thinks this is a good idea?

Here’s the best summary I can come up with:

Trump (pictured) says “my pants shit their pants!”

Jakdracula ,

lol, wut?
You actually believe that Netflix would charge _less_if Apple wasn’t in the picture?
Wow.

Jakdracula ,
@Jakdracula@lemmy.world avatar

Pricing is only effected by the willingness of the consumer. That’s all.
If you’re willing to pay $100 a month, Netflix will charge $100 a month.

Jakdracula ,
@Jakdracula@lemmy.world avatar

Nope.

If a consumer is unwilling to pay the price, then none of the other stuff matters. It’s very simple to understand - in order for a company to be profitable after expenses, such as product development, whatever ongoing cost, etc. - if the consumer is unwilling to pay the price for the product or service, than there is no business. It is up to the business to find a way to run their company for a profit.

Well, they’re a platform that sells ad space.

My next car will be electric, I have over 250k on my ice car and it’s only now just starting to show wear.

I haven’t purchased an electric because of the price, but I’ll definitely buy a $22k Chinese should they arrive on these shores.

Are there any genuine benefits to AI?

I can see some minor benefits - I use it for the odd bit of mundane writing and some of the image creation stuff is interesting,, and I knew that a lot of people use it for coding etc - but mostly it seems to be about making more cash for corporations and stuffing the internet with bots and fake content. Am I missing something...

A 2023 study by researchers at Princeton University, the University of Pennsylvania and New York University found that “legal services” is among the industries most exposed to occupational change from generative AI.

Another report, published in 2023 by economists at Goldman Sachs, estimated that 44 percent of legal work could be automated by emerging AI tools.
