If I understand correctly Nvidia isn't doing anything to do with explicit sync, it just doesn't support implicit sync which is currently what Wayland uses because we don't have explicit sync yet. Explicit sync would work with existing Nvidia drivers.

Ziglin ,

I think that may have been the case early into the Nvidia 30-series but now they seem closer in price and performance so I'm pretty sure my next card will be from AMD when I decide I need an upgrade.

Ziglin ,

Obviously it won't be all of them but I too am very excited about not having to get lucky with my games flickering or not.

Ziglin ,

I'm somewhere in between. X11 doesn't work with linux-lts (arch) for me and Wayland stutters occasionally but not always. Usually it happens exclusively in games, some reliably, some when I switch windows and in some when I move around or increase game speed. But I'm excited for explicit sync

Ziglin ,

Got the card before I knew that I was going to run Linux as a daily driver and it was cheaper back then lol.

Ziglin ,

Best is when it messes up it's own bootloader at the same time lol.

Ziglin ,

There's mail apps for Linux. I think thunderbird is most popular.

Ziglin ,

On windows they make you install their annoying software to do driver updates and it sends random notifications and has a bunch of ads and other things I don't want when installing software.

Ziglin ,

So no IMAP/POP3 server or what do you mean? If so how does the web app work?

Ziglin ,

Ah, I suppose that makes sense.

Ziglin ,

Honestly fedora with i3 runs well enough on my pentium 4 laptop. It just overheats in summer sometimes. I am thinking about trying LFS on my desktop one day though. That would probably be the least bloat possible for a setup that I'm happy with and I could make fun of arch users.

Ziglin ,

Mine is typically possessed by daemons…

Ziglin ,

I'm very sorry but I don't like your k, it looks like a |e

Ziglin ,

How about booting from a live USB, copying the font from that to the main drive?

Edit: If possible it might be easier to chroot over and just use your package manager instead.

Ziglin ,

You just need to ask permission.

Ziglin ,

To be fair, assuming you are not using a wastebasket which comes pre installed in a lot of distros, you still need the right permissions to delete files that belong to the system and if you're using rm you have to use the -rf option to remove a folder and it's contents.

Ziglin ,

Yup I think it's --preserve-root

Ziglin ,

They usually support one but it is generally not provided by the file manager it's self. This means that assuming that the file managers use the same trash system you can trash a file on one recover it another.

Ziglin ,

We have pretty good backwards compatibility too, to my knowledge it's actually better.

Ziglin ,

Linux and FOSS are some of the nicest things on earth. If Linux or other FOSS didn't exist my life would would be worse.

Ziglin ,

Not sure how much experience you have with Linux but if you know the basics (and perhaps a little more depending on your definition) I personally would recommend EndeavourOS. I have fedora on my laptop but I'm not that happy with it, while EndeavourOS on my desktop is running nicely. I use i3 but am switching over to hyprland though I have to do that manually. The installer has a lot of options for wms and other packages though which is why I like it. It also has some GUIs for updating the arch mirrors and everything else you might need to do the first time you run it.

Ziglin ,

Then it might be nice to start off with whatever distro you were using so you're familiar with the package manager and then just get yourself a DE/WM (or Wayland compositor but I think Wayland isn't quite far enough to start off with yet although I've only used Hyprland) that you'll be happy with. Then when you've gotten used to everything it's much easier to try out new stuff.

Ziglin ,

We need someplace to get rid of the windows complaints from people close to us or our own experiences when people expect us to use it.

I do agree though that the joke is getting old but when you're frustrated with windows this seems to be the place to let off steam.

Ziglin ,

I've used mingw in the past, the exe usually is 10x the size and wants the entire binary of any library used as well and first requires you to download the source windows version of the lib and link it. Meaning a small SDL2 project on Linux was I think 100kib while on windows it was 1mib + 2.5 mib

Ziglin ,

Since I don't do this professionally it doesn't have to run on any windows systems, I just was stuck with windows recently so I programmed in a GitHub codespace and compiled for Windows which is how I found out about all that I'm so happy not to have run into problems like this on Linux.

Ziglin ,

Doesn't it work in Linux normally?

Ziglin ,

Nope I used a GitHub codespace since I didn't have a C compiler on the windows installation I was stuck with.

Ziglin ,

I believe step 3 is likely rtfm and then do what you just learned in the way you want your OS.

Ziglin ,

Not for LFS. For most distros it's just as easy as installing windows though.

Ziglin ,

It's possible that it's a logarithmic scale.

Ziglin ,

But safe and private in comparison to other apps from what I've heard.

Ziglin ,

Depends on the person, length of the message and when I read it.

Ziglin ,

Not based on as in they use the Unix code (except BSD from what I've heard in other threads here) they are unix-like GNU literally means GNU's not Unix

Ziglin ,

Yeah, it did. It’s called Android.

Aren't there Android versions that don't have all the Google things and are open source? (GrapheneOS and LineageOS)
If you're just talking about your average android I'm afraid I agree and am an offender myself. (I hope to change that one day though)

Ziglin ,

On EndeavourOS I had some trouble for a bit but I think I got some drivers from flatpak and they worked with no problem.

Ziglin ,

That's good to know.

Ziglin ,

I think it's normal for that kind of "test"

Ziglin ,

Well it's slightly harder to spot if it's in a different position or orientation. (Or at least that is my assumption based on the limited number of "tests" like that one that I've seen.

Ziglin ,

Not in Germany... (it's banned outside of school too)

Ziglin ,

I don't think it's legal though or is it?

Ziglin ,

Now that makes sense. I do believe the original is banned, leading to people (including me) thinking that it is banned period.

Ziglin ,

Am I invited here?
I use arch based distro btw.
