This sounds more like a coordinated attack on matrix to ruin the system/ reputation/ joy

  • beta_tester OP ,

Thanks for showing me what the block button is for

    beta_tester ,

Ripping childrens audiobooks from youtube with ylt-dlp is my least favorite because uploaders upload trash a lot, i.e. they let it repeat two times or even more often within one video.

I prefer subscribing to podcasts and downloading audiobooks via the usual means. There's also good stuff on deezer which is very convenient.

It works, you can view pdfs but compared to mupdf or mj pdf it's still behind. It may be a tiny bit more secure, so if you are a target who needs to open a pdf from an untrusted source, you may prefer gospdf, everyone else can use something else

    beta_tester ,

Even if they open the source code, the server can run something different

    beta_tester ,

Initially I wanted to include the app as well but somehow I didn't. If facebook would open its source code for the app, it doesn't mean that you could build it and use it that way without additional keys and facebook wouldn't want that which would mean they still publish an app you don't know the exact source code of.

Yes, if the government has the key, they can read it. Otherwise spying of the NSA would be a little tricky. I'm no pro in this regard but doesn't the gov/ NSA has a special API to access data of the big companies?

    beta_tester ,

You can develop apps in a text editor. We don't do it because we've got better tools. Text editor work but developer focused IDE's work much better and are very convenient.

it may encrypt your password but using kdbx files are much more convenient, efficient, etc.

What's base url? Do you want to access immich via path? I.e. yourdomain.com/immich ?

    Immich supports subdomains immich.ourdomain.com

    Just auth via name password?

    1. not yet implemented

    2. podman/ docker is enough. Why on bare metal? Implementing the breaking changes would be a pain on bare metal

    3. not yet implemented

    4. if you ise the cli import it works. It's just not perfect. Immich is in it's infancy.

There isn't much we can do, only

    • donations, it has to be well funded to become wonderful very quickly.
    • using it
    • star it on github
    • reporting bugs
    • spreading the word
      • sharing albums with friends
      • talking with strangers on the internet and help them solve the problems
    beta_tester ,
    1. Just use a subdomain. I wouldn't bother too much about this. It works. Just create immich.yourdomain.com in your reverse proxy service and bookmark it. Everytime you type immich, it'll be the first result, if not look into your browser settings and disable crap that is prefered to your bookmarks.
    2. On mobile you login once and that's it. Save the email and password in your password manager, that'll fill it automatically. Bitwarden and protonpass work perfectly fine

I'll keep your feedback in mind, thanks for that.

    vpn on nextcloud? (kbin.social)

I plan to selfhost nextcloud, for now just for bookmark sync. is there a point to installing a vpn on the computer running the instance? it shouldnt matter as long as i have https right? what about if i dont have a domain? i cant have https without a domain (ill buy one later just want everything to work first). or maybe use one...

    beta_tester ,

I'd use a free dynamic dns hoster

You can get SSL easily with ngninx proxy manager and letsencrypt

Easy setup with podman or docker compose nextcloud

    https://github.com/nextcloud/docker#running-this-image-with-docker-compose

    And

    https://nginxproxymanager.com/guide/#quick-setup

    beta_tester OP ,

    GNU is not unix

    Why not linuxporn or gnuporn?

    beta_tester ,

    Neo launcher is close

    Kvaesitso is a great launcher

    beta_tester ,

It doesn't use reproducible builds. using the github release directly is more secure. Just add https://github.com/mm2-0/kvaesitso to obtainium

    beta_tester ,

No major bugs on my pixel 6

    beta_tester , (edited )
    beta_tester ,
    • It is a foss launcher
    • You can create webapps with firefox
    • it also has widgets

Launcher is very important, I'd use nova as well if I wouldn't likr kvaesitso that much

    beta_tester ,

Fdroid is not a virus scanner you can trust blindly. You have to trust both, app devs and fdroid. I fully agree with what you write.
Most devs do not yet publish reproducible builds. Maybe Fdroid should've created a separate repo just for them and depreciating the old repo over time. There's no way for the user to know if it is a reproducible build or not right now.
I prefer fdroid with reproducible builds over obtainium but in it's current state it's ambiguous which method you should use. I lean towards obtainium. In hindsight I should'nt have stated it that confident

    beta_tester ,

How do you want to open the drawer? Upwards? You can chabge it to right/left swipe

If you mean the widget edit button, there's plans to change it, and to add it to the three dots menu, afaik. In the meantime you can hide it in the settings.

    How do you create webapps?

I click on install in fennec and it appears on my favorites list and I can search it, and tag it. It does not appear on the homescreen like on other launchers.

I don't use work profiles anymore, I didn't know that. Hopefully there's already an issue for it on their github page

    beta_tester OP ,

For real, I know how to browse 9gag and If I'd like to use the fediverse, I just know that I can go to c/memes or search for . That doesn't sound like it's perfect and the fediverse should be perfect for this.

    Alternative github frontends?

Github has become more bloated, slower and more user-hostile with each update (just like all other big corp platforms). SPA navigation slow like hell, the "new" file viewer/browser is hardly usable in my opinion, code search does not work without login, etc. So are there any good alternative FE where the following work (read...

    beta_tester ,

Github isn't slow on my devices.

Which os? There are plenty of third party apps for computer or mobile

    beta_tester ,

When accepting a cookie, the cookie is stored on your machine locally for the duration of your browsing session on that site, IF you clear all cookies after a site visit with cookieautodelete. Or they are deleted after quitting the browser session, i.e. after exiting all open tabs AND you've enabled the setting to auto clear cookies.

With cookie autodelete (or firefox containers) and a normal browsing behavior it does not matter much if you accept or delete them, if there is no personal identifier like login data or IP address (always use vpn).

Consent o matic doesn't work on as many sites as istilldontcareaboutcookies and with the up and coming internal firefox functionality isdcaac will hopefully be obsolete within a year or so

    beta_tester ,

I know how web fingerprinting works. I don't visit sites regularly that use advanced techniques which shouldn't get my info, and if, I would overthink my web browsing behavior. For regular websites it's just too much of a hassle to use advanced fingerprinting methods

    beta_tester ,

It doesn't help shit reducing your fingerprint. Why should it?

Usually you spoof another browser, not OS. Spoofing chrome all the time is nuts. It may solve one problem in the short term but won't fix it in the long term.

A website maintainer can even see that no firefox user tries to load the website. Hence, she doesn't need to optimize it for firefox.

Most sites don't track you that much. If you regularly visit websites that track you very much, maybe you should rethink your browsing behavior. Use a vpn, clean cookies for all websites you do not trust/ visit regularly and use ublock origin. That'll solve 99% of all considerations. For anything else use Tor or I2p

    beta_tester ,
    • Podman solves the root issue
    • you can inspect the stuff. You don't have to, but it helps if you're not paranoid with popular and widespread images
    • I have no mess

It's great that you do install things on bare metal, I did that in the beginning until I discovered docker and I will never go back. Docker/ podman compose is just so good

    beta_tester ,

All distris that have GNOME look the same. Same for KDE. I wouldn't go the looks cool route

Distro choice doesn't matter too much. Even ubuntu if you ignore snaps

    beta_tester ,

    Cool app at first glance!

I always wonder why some open source projects choose discord and not matrix?

    beta_tester ,

Dark background and light text is much faster in my experience

    beta_tester ,

    Yes

I highly support dark reader, for me, dbalt is faster, hence I use dbalt. If dark reader was faster, i would use that

    beta_tester ,

I never understood the "hype" around mint
