    Okay. I figured it out.

9.9.9.9 has something they call Threat Blocking.
I need to use 9.9.9.10 to keep using their DNS without Threat Blocking.

But why are they blocking it?

X automatically changed 'Twitter' to 'X' in domain names, breaking legit URLs (mashable.com)

On Monday, it appears X attempted to encourage users to cease referring to it as Twitter and instead adopt the name X. Some users began noticing that posts viewed via X for iOS were changing any references of "Twitter.com" to "X.com" automatically....

I noticed that recently every post on Proton's blog has been an advertisement of their services.

    They are hypocrites.

A few days ago they posted that corporations are bad because they collect fingerprints, profile users, etc., yet they are no better, as their mobile apps rely on Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) owned by Google to deliver notifications to their users.

In 2020 they wrote that they "may offer alternative push notification system", but apparently shitting on corporations is easier than making actual changes. Four years ago.

Tarallo - selfhostable FOSS Trello alternative (feddit.it)

Hi! For the ones of you that use Trello, I made a simple to use and host alternative in PHP. It's not a complete alternative like other projects, and I mainly made it to be able to host it on free PHP web servers while having control over data/attachments. It also support a basic importer for Trello JSON exports....

And then, when someone (after years) comes across the post and sees that someone had the same problem, they can't solve their problem because the comments were deleted. This is ridiculous.

I'm the type of user who independently seeks information on internet forums before asking a question, because in 99% of cases, someone has already had the same problem as me.

I usually Google the phrase I'm looking for, adding the word "reddit" to it, and almost always get what I want. And I'll continue to do so until the Lemmy knowledge base is sufficiently expanded to replace the Reddit knowledge base.

Google will start showing AI-powered search results to users who didn't opt in (www.engadget.com)

If you're in the US, you might see a new shaded section at the top of your Google Search results with a summary answering your inquiry, along with links for more information. That section, generated by Google's generative AI technology, used to appear only if you've opted into the Search Generative Experience(SGE) in the Search...

Is the Fediverse truly decentralized? Not exactly. (blog.benjojo.co.uk)

The author examined the distribution of instances in the fediverse. Given that many instances are hidden behind CDNs like Cloudflare or Fastly, the author employed ActivityPub's functionality to discover the actual hosting locations of servers. More than half (51%) of the fediverse is hosted within a single hosting company. The...

While the hosting location may be decentralized, using Cloudflare introduces a level of centralization in the way Internet traffic is managed. Cloudflare acts as a central point through which all incoming traffic is routed before reaching your decentralized server. This centralization is evident in the fact that Cloudflare controls access to the site, providing security measures, CDN services and acting as a proxy server.

Without Cloudflare, hosting can indeed be decentralized, but the inclusion of this proxy service means that a central entity (Cloudflare) plays a key role in handling and directing traffic. This introduces a level of centralization to the overall service, even if the hosting itself remains decentralized.

You're correct; the focal point revolves around data ownership. However, you have to ask yourself, do we actually own the data?

Currently, four major hosting companies dominate the fediversum. Instance owners in practice do not have full control over the physical servers where their data is hosted.

Do you own the disks on which the data is hosted? No! The hosting companies retain that ownership and, can wipe the contents with a mere click.

A regular court order is all it takes, and I question whether every instance is backed up? While some may indeed have backups, they might reside on the very same server. Others, although having backups, may execute the process improperly. Additionally, there are those with partial backups, and the list goes on.

My complaints concern not the Matrix protocol itself, but rather what the end user sees, i.e., the clients. Most of them look like they were made hastily... I believe that with a little improvement in the UI of clients, Matrix could become the second Discord, just as Lemmy became the second Reddit.

I fully understand what you want to convey. However, if transitioning from one platform to another is such a pain, why not minimize it or try to minimize it?

If millions of people are accustomed to a specific interface, it's obvious they will resist moving to a new platform because the discomfort would be too big.

Instead of making them swallow five tablets at once, let's give them one.
