Here AR is a push to normalize VR in different settings where you need to pay attention to what's outside your googles. Even in social ones - that's why they tried these eyes on the surface. I'm sceptical some would wear them daily while doing chores, but I was also sceptical about people casually talking to their BT airpods on the street.

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Yes, and I used one. But in Nokia days it was mostly work related. You didn't usually stumble upon that many persons talking to air in public. Now writing voice messages and chatting via headset is way more normalised.

Thank you for the additional read. I always wondered if I could do something like that. Just for the sake of it, with research, dreasing, acting and managing the right speech\behavior patterns to calm down their alerts. I'd honestly buy a game about that, like a reverse LA Noire. I think many millenials and zoomers would love to play-pretend they aren't themselves for a moment, see the popularity of Mafia in their generation at least in x-USSR: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mafia_(party_game)

Why even use AI? Mocap + features reconstructed from some photo + your acting under that mask + one spam call to steal voice sample + pitch shifter to slightly modify your voice. We have fucking Hololive where vtubers are anime girls streaming in real time. If it means at least $1 mil, you can find the right people to do a good deepfake under a budget. And they won't probably use LLM if they worth employment as it's unreliable and, as you said, needs training data, needs processing power, time etc. You'd be surprised how many things people do as shitposts in AE and Blender. Making Biden say an N-word to Obama is easier than you think when you know who to ask.

It's not an LLM problem, it's their stupid security, verification processes and this person be a gullible idiot.

Xorg? Wayland? Seems like I lack context to understand that competition.

My distro came wirh Cinnamon, and it died two times on my setup after updates - black screen after login - before I installed Xfce instead and still use it daily. I love that unlike Windows you can just jump ships and unsubscribe from what you dislike. This meme draws that freedom as something bad. It's not healthy to the community...

... but if there would be a DE war, Xpect frequent combat engagements, as the way to your land and ten of your HQs are marked with red Xs on my map.

I learnt some things reading you, thank you. As a newbie to Linux I'm not the one to argue anything. But I had an urge to shitpost, and my last sentence comes from an abbreviature of XFCE and references both Wayland and X11. I'm an artist more than I'm a thinker.

Consuming some japanese media with fast noodles. When I download a new tittle or start a new game it feels almost like a ritual to eat them. That's nothing like ramem MCs are consuming on-screen and not very healthy if eaten for long, yet it's fun.

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Streaming pushes big profits by confusing and underpaying artists, and I don't see many problems with how the bill gets descripted. The problem is that companies have many ways to ease the blow: dropping artists, dropping a market or making a different policy for it alone. Or just pay fees if they'd figure out it's easier.

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

That's golden. With all my hatred towards scammers, there's a little niche for scams that make people feel smart before undressing them that I can't bring myself to judge.

OSINT teams buy databases on darkweb to do investigations too. Agencies can be punched in court for obtaining an information that shouldn't be availiable to them and paying criminals as it's not up to legal standards, like tapping the phone without an order. But real criminals are data miners and thieves. And in some cases, weirdly enough, it's still legal to do that.

I find ground-based systems more effective as a defensive measure, tho. No limit on weight, no added energy consumption just to be ready to react. I think germans showcased some autocannon like that. It's easier to spot and destroy, but also easier to maintain a drone-less perimeter.

On the other hand, flying antidrone fleet can be an offensive weapon. Everyone watches the front from the sky nowadays, so quickly pulling their eyes off before pushing forward can be a lifesaver.

It's a cold case of a single murder from 30 years ago. I thought they would use it on something more unique. Guess they thought it's a way to silently normalize it via cases that are dead ends anyway to then bring it into a use on more recent stuff.

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Nailed it. Even the worst interface with buttons is miles away from the best touchscreen interface. You are like driving, you aren't supposed to look at the screen and tap things on it to switch a song or whatever. You navigate a missile that weights at least two tones and can undo a crowd of pedestrians or break a wall in a building. You are in no position to focus on this tiny LED that some insane idiot mounted there. Yet, it's there.

How a 27-Year-Old Codebreaker Busted the Myth of Bitcoin’s Anonymity (www.wired.com)

"This is the story of the revelation in late 2013 that Bitcoin was, in fact, the opposite of untraceable—that its blockchain would actually allow researchers, tech companies, and law enforcement to trace and identify users with even more transparency than the existing financial system."

I hope it won't overregulate technology itself but instead would be ruled by already existing means about defaming people and taking photoes without their consent, sharing them. Plus, if she's a teen, it's a production of CSAM. This person had an illegal intent, just used a new tool not unlike others, just more efficient.

It's not even hard to do that. But having this idea, printing it in letters, completing it... How did they not have a keyboard burning under their fingers?

andrew_bidlaw ,
@andrew_bidlaw@sh.itjust.works avatar

Same thoughts. I'm surprised how many power is casually laying in my hand. That it can play stuff like Genshin, PUBG, Fortnite. It couldn't be even thought off when Fruit Ninja, Angry Birds released to sell us the first fun of capacitive screens, gestures. These resources are to last years.

The only objection is I just don't care about having the same phone, getting used to it anymore for they all look the same, I occasionaly take other person's phones at work and when eating out. They are now easier to jump from one device to another. And while it's good, maybe, that you aren't chained to it, it warms you up to buy another piece of plastic. My older Symbian devices were something to adjust to, and honor, and cry over they eventual death, and that phone? I can go to the store to buy another and I won't even sigh. They are ideal portals into the web with no personality besides a phone case. And it's not that fun.

I'd honestly sell some belongings to have a modern specs phone with a keyboard and a linux. These awkward, heavy beasts of the past were so damn cool. Writing just isn't the same with touch-screen, as well as emulation. If there was one, I'd have bought replacement batteries and have used it for decades.

It could be funny if not for this guy's rapidly stagnating mental health and the publicity he still has. He's not a joke, he's a deeply wrong unmedicated idiot who we can observe even there. When he was intervieved with a sock on his sad head and praised Hitler for some reason, it felt so cringe-worthy, but it's unfair to him and to the persons who he promotes hate against to share it any further.

For those confused, the joke's about generic essays ex-soviet middleschoolers write when they start another year after a summer break. Meduza and Rain are banned news medias, rainbow is obvious, Memorial is a society for studying soviet repressions that was liquidated a year ago.

It's IT wages and being able to take a break and think about oneself. When Twitter was called Twitter and I've been there, the core population of trans, lgbt+, kink, furry, whatever communities were those who could afford a brief moment to think about themselves, these later magnfied other folks who aren't as well-off. Being gay or trans is natural as our science says, but understanding you are gay or trans means you have enough time, resources, safety to even discover you are one, not to say about presenting as one in public. Tech persons have a natural advantage here over a doordash delivery guy, but as they show it's possible, many poorer persons show up too. And it's not a coincidence Lemmy is popular in these communities, as it's not only a tech-gated space, it's also a promising safe space where they can be whoever they want without social pressure.

I upvote for visibility, downvote for being rude. It's not entirely me agreeing or disagreeing. Sometimes I upvote a person I argue with because I see this argument and their effort valuable to the community and want others ro see it, same with posts.
