Shut up, brain! When we were 9, you didn't even know what cringe was!

I look forward to the day when I pass my screen name on to my son...

And, to this day, I still crave that super thin wedge of pizza once in a while.

Next update: Well, we never actually removed the feature because it's already irrevocably engrained in the file system. It can't be turned off or opted out of because it'll cause your hard drive to explode. Instead, we've buried it so deep that only hackers, malware, the government, and Facebook will be able to make use of it.

capt_wolf ,
@capt_wolf@lemmy.world avatar

Then don't use it.

Or fork it and remove all instances of the word. Put the pearls down, you're grinding them to dust.

Gonna share this, because I had no idea... I think the last time I updated Audacity was, like, 10 years ago...

Here's Tenacity, which I'll be checking out shortly...

From what I've seen on their site since is that they're saying they are now GDPR compliant. And I suppose, since they are still open source, that anyone finding anything seriously malicious would have pointed it out by now. Maybe just a bit of bad press and people jumping to conclusions because "Russia bad."

I do still plan to check out Tenacity though and see if it's a better project.

Sites like that saved me thousands getting my psych degree. God bless professors like this. Also the ones who were like, "the new edition of the book you need for this semester is $500, but you can get the previous edition for $5 at this site. Here's copies of the pages that were changed." or "I photocopied every page you need for this semester from the book for all of you."

You forgot the sound of a Sunchips bag. My not even conceived children are going to be deaf because I opened one back in the 90s.

X-Com devs' lawyers have entered chat.

@capt_wolf@lemmy.world avatar

Ah, the best series I had no idea what I was doing in...

That was kind of the point though I guess. Don't know how many hours I spent in X² just flying around doing nothing until I'd make a mistake and die.

Also, your comment lead me to check out when X-Com first came out and I found out that the original creator had a totally different series with the same kind of tactical play style for the ZX Spectrum, Rebelstar. There was a release for the GBA that plays very much like original X-Com. Liking it so far.

This sort of thing is why Google's monopoly on the internet is so dangerous.

capt_wolf ,
@capt_wolf@lemmy.world avatar

Well, yes, but in a broader sense, they have way too much of a stake in the control of global communications altogether. Even just a hiccup on their servers or slight change to their system has a global impact, as obviously evidenced here. The world is dangerously reliant on a centralized private company for daily functioning.

Such a powerful entity shouldn't be controlled by private parties and needs to be governed in a way that the benefit of the people is kept paramount.

capt_wolf ,
@capt_wolf@lemmy.world avatar

Not really anything to do but draw attention to it... It's not like we have an effective globally governing body to oversee something like this objectively.

@capt_wolf@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, I'm a fan of regulatory action, in the same vein as what was proposed with net neutrality originally, and dissolution of the monopoly. The services Google provides are vital to the functioning of the internet, and as such, must be treated as a governed utility the same way internet provision should be, with tight definitions of services and regulations to control what can be done and when. In that regard, companies like Google and Amazon(in regard to AWS) would be classified as utility providers similar to ISPs with the same degree of accountability in regard to service provision, availability, transparency of policy and actions, liability, etc.

In addition, break up the monopoly accordingly. Entertainment services, telephony/internet/communication services, electronics development, however it would be appropriate. Problem is how many of those services overlap and likely where they'd argue that the company can't be broken up.

Like you said, that's like seizing their business from them and it also doesn't account for global factors. However, each nation is ultimately responsible for how companies operate within their borders, internet service providers should be no different.

I had a pair I bought at big lots like 20ish years ago. They were pretty cool, but uncomfortable fitting around my big ass head. Positioning them was annoying and the sound quality wasn't the best. The novelty wore off and I wasn't using headphones nearly enough back then.

Lately though, I've been thinking about getting a pair again, as every time I put my sennheisers on, someone inevitably comes in to talk to me. Would be good at work for overnights too, where I have to be able to hear people out of their room/walking around. I'm sure the technology and fit has gotten better and I can afford ones that weren't on sale a big lots!

capt_wolf ,
@capt_wolf@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, I was looking at the Shokz, also some YouthWhispers that are rated pretty good and also on sale for 30% off. I think I'll bite the bullet and give them a try.

I don't know why, but your post made me question if TPM 2.0 expansions outside the processor are a thing. Turns out they are as long as your board supports them. I was just able to get one for mine for $25.

I still have a 4th Gen devil's canyon in my main pc. It still outperforms most current gen chips apparently, so I plan on running it til it burns the house down.

Personally, I've tried using Gemini for a couple weeks now and last night decided to disable it. It can't even manage commands like "play music" to open Spotify, or start calls and texts without being unlocked. The whole point of a hands free assistant for me is to be hands free... I use it in my car for calls and texts, literally the primary reason to have a cell phone. Who gives a crap about "creative inspiration" if they're not even prioritizing the basic features of a phone?

Exactly like Ryu and Ken pronounce it in the original game. Ha-doo-ken! Emphasis on the doo. Repeat until your best friend is dead and calls you a cheater. Move on to Mortal Kombat knowing full well you're picking Scorpion...

Edit: Hadouken spam for reference.

I got one yesterday that was like, "Identify all the pictures with busses." and I swear to god, they were all just static. I just clicked continue and it was like, "No... There are definitely busses here."

The number of clients I get who are clearly struggling with the burden of "what a man is and isn't" would astound you... Hint:
It's a lot!

No, boys aren't OK...

Just be you, friends!

Remembering the good old days of eSheep.exe and my dad freaking out that "It's a virus!" because he saw "a black sheep come running up to the other one and hit it! It started bleeding!"

Dad, that's a ram... The other sheep's not bleeding. It's blushing!
