fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Free and Open Source Software in Windows 11 is now an ad platform--this is why we're here

Oh don't worry, if this isn't already in 10 I'm sure they'll be bringing it over shortly.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Free and Open Source Software in Windows 11 is now an ad platform--this is why we're here

If you have actual work to do then I would HIGHLY suggest not doing it on your main machine. Give it a month on a secondary machine before giving up. If you install it on a Friday night and come Sunday night it's still not working fully you're gonna go back to Windows and never go back.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Technology in Firefox 126: New Search Data Telemetry, Improved Copy Without Site Tracking, Security Fixes, and More

To know what features people are using, how fast it's running, know what hardware and where it's being used, and to try to investigate crashing issues? Telemetry doesn't only mean knowing where you live or who you're banging.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Technology in Biden really, really doesn’t want China to flood the US with cheap EVs

Anecdotally cheap Chinese EVs are all over Costa Rica and even there they’re generally known to be garbage. Like how do you get a fairly car rusty in Costa Rica? Even if you live exclusively on the beach you’d have to have some really bad paint and 0 rust prevention done.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to linuxmemes in you don't need more 4GB of RAM

That's what makes it a joke. Does anyone here unironcally think the human eye can only see 60 fps or that more than 4 gigs of ram is just marketing?

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to linuxmemes in you don't need more 4GB of RAM

I go over 16 gigs regularly browsing the internet.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Technology in iFixit hails replaceable LPCAMM2 laptop memory as a 'big deal'

Laptops with sodimm DDR5 not only use much more power, but they're also slower than LPDDR5.

Ex: the Intel Thinkpad T16 has 5600mhz ram in sodimm form, but with soldered RAM (AMD version) it's like 6400mhz.

Desktops/servers get around this the best they can by just blasting the power away.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Technology in Novel attack against virtually all VPN apps neuters their entire purpose

But that involves clicking the link and reading.

We don't do that here, we just get angry.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Technology in Lithium-free sodium batteries exit the lab and enter US production

But I like my inextinguishable fires :(

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Technology in Apple iPhone sales decline 10% in first three months of 2024

What happened to sub $1000 phones?

They still exist, just don't buy the "Pro Max" model. The iPhone 15 is $800 and the 15 Plus is $900

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to linuxmemes in Look what they need to mimic a fraction of our unshittified experience

I think I finally found it. There aren't (officially) any ads in windows 11 yet, they just changed the wording of the toggle for the start menu to add ads as part of the toggle.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Technology in The walls of Apple’s garden are tumbling down

So in the 80s and 90s, Apple tried the wall garden approach.

Wat. In the 90s Apple literally had officially sanctioned "clones". https://everymac.com/systems/mac-clones/index-mac-clones.html

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to Technology in Are you prepared for the ramifications of windows 10 EoL?

Corporations (the only people who actually care about their OS being in support) upgrade their machines every few years so they've already done that. Home users don't know what that means and won't care. The remaining 2% have already installed linux.

fuckwit_mcbumcrumble , to linuxmemes in Ads in the Start Menu

As far as I can tell nothing has actually changed. The "recommended" is the same shit as it's always been, and windows 10 already has that.
