What are the most private social media platforms?

I've been feeling uneasy about the privacy implications of using Lemmy and similar platforms. The ability for anyone to view your entire posting history feels to me like publicly sharing my browser history. In contrast, most other social media platforms allow you to limit your feed visibility to just friends or followers....

    people are stuck to their phones! i see people doing crunches while watching a video on their phones in one of their hands. Hurts to look at their pitiful postures.

    What are your thoughts on Invizible pro ? (f-droid.org)

    The app seems fairly small in size compared to orbot which is really old and also invizible pro seems to do a ton of things that including firewall vpn etc . So does it connect to tor network properly and pass all your traffic through it as good as orbot and completely block internet acces to not whitelisted services as good...

    read, listen to people that were spied on using the pegasus software. Easy to find

    i don't know if you've met any real activists, militants in your life but they're rarely geeks. And checking the battery of their phone or reading about battery life isn't one of their priorities

    you can always modify your tattoos, you can't modify your face once it's identified. I saw a man literally draw a face on his face before attending a protest. He looked ridiculous but perfectly "defaced".

    I've also read about some blackBlocs getting identified, where i live, through their shoes. Police photographed people before and after the movement and their shoes are used as identifying information.

    There is always the oldBloc who put their faces and names behind their words and proudly struggle through unions.

    I wouldn't be surprised is many data trackers don't pay attention to any of the permissions and agreements. It's hard to validate they aren't in compliance and it's hard for most people to even challenge these businesses.

    organizations like la quadrature validate and challenge those businesses. Europe is relatively strict on this subject.

    Anyone know exactly what info Youtube captures from you from its browser version (and by what means)?

    I know the prevailing sentiment for a long time in the privacy community has been "DAE Youtube bad?" though I have always thought that it is kinda overblown. Besides, I am using Firefox which is supposed to isolate tabs so they can't speak to each other, so I felt a small amount safer using Youtube....

    firefox doesn't hide your ip.

    google/YouTube probably knows who is watching what from where and when unless you use tor or a vpn with a browser that leaves no traces, leaks no information (probably not the default firefox)

    but youtube in firefox having access to what you type on another app? i don't think that's possible

    Comments no longer visible with youtube frontends?

    Are comments no longer visible for anyone else using the youtube frontends? I can no longer see comments with either invidious, piped, or viewtube, and I've tried several instances of each. With invidious there's just nothing there below the video description. With viewtube I get an error message. And with piped I see...

    the first thing i do with any yT frontend is disabling comments. When i was on linux desktop i used to zap them with uBlock. Why would anybody want to read them?🤷

    sethMeyers started torturing himself with yT comments during covid lockdowns in Corrections. It's fun to see somebody ridiculously engaging with that cesspool 🤣

    i don't know in what world you're living, but in this world where people think you're (edit: we are) a pain in the ass for refusing to install WhatsApp when everyone is expected to use it for official communication (work + organizations); Signal is great.

    I've convinced a couple of dozens of people to use Signal, and only one to keep Simplex as, at least, a backup.

    as a caring-about-privacy minority we can invite "them" to Signal. "They" know Signal and Telegram👎. "They" understand our concerns. "They" for whatever incomprehensible reason keep using WhatsApp 🤷 We're left out of the loop because once "everyone" is on that WhatsApp group, it's tiring for them to send an email or an sms to the exceptional one or two people

    requiring phone number and being centralized doesn't make Signal "not great" in a world where a great majority of people use WhatsApp + read the last comment again but more carefully ;)

    signal is a great alternative to a WhatsApp world. Simplex or Session has no chance with the general public
