peregus ,

If you'd like to sell a couple of drivers and you're in Europe, contact me.

Why do firewall rules need to resolve FQDNs?

peregus , (edited )

@kakes
It would be better to have the server on a separated VLAN

peregus ,

Sorry, but I still don't understand, what's the need for that?

peregus ,

What's the need of the public IP in the firewall rules?

peregus ,

I'm curious to know in which case is useful to know the public IP in a firewall rule because I've never used it.

peregus ,

To allow access from a friend you need his public IP, not yours.

peregus ,

Dude, just chill!
I didn't think that your answer made sense in the first place and that's why I've asked why you wrote that sentence. I'm not the one that reply to a comment saying "You're wrong!", unless I'm more than sure about what I'm talking, otherwise, and in this case I wasn't sure and I wanted to know your point.
I'm here to give my point of view and also to LEARN from others and this is why I kept asking you what was the need of resolving a DNS in a firewall rule, so that maybe I could start using those rules too.
On the other side, if you understood that your answer didn't make sense, you simply could have just said it and not waste mine and your time. I think that we ALL are here to share idea and knowledge and that NO ONE is perfect, me in the first place!

peregus ,

You've clarified your thought to a normal standard, as you didn't previously.
Learn to say "I was wrong" when you are wrong!

Edit: could I have said in the first place that I thought that you were wrong? Probably yes and I'll keep that in mind.

Nextcloud appreciation post

After months of waiting, I finally got myself an instance with Libre Cloud. I was expecting basic file storage with a few goodies but boy, this is soooo much more. I am amaze by how complete this is!!! Apps let me configure my instance to fit everything I need, my workflow is now crazy fast and I can finally say goodbye to...

peregus ,

I was surprised to know that there is no tool to pass from Nextcloud to AIO.

peregus ,

@neon_arch I think that a couple of lines explaining what websurfx is would be useful to a lot of users, instead of point them to another post.

peregus OP ,

I have the whole OS on that RAID.
Should I just create the new MD and copy everything there? I guess that I need to copy data when the OS is shut down (so with another PC), correct?

peregus OP ,

Oh, so easy?!
If the RAID rebuilds the disk, why should I install a bootloader? Isn't it already in the rebuilt disk?
By the way...hemmm...how do I install the bootloader? 😣

peregus OP ,

Thanks!

peregus OP ,

Got it, thanks a lot!

peregus OP , (edited )

Network Device Interface: basically it's an audio/video (and intercom) transmission over IP with low latency. The sender could be an hardware encoder or a software that I could install on a Windows VM and use on that machine Jellyfin and Netflix

peregus OP ,

Remove the PC connected to the TV (avoid turning on/off and fa noise) and watch Jellyfin and Netflix from a Windows VM on the Proxmox server.

peregus OP ,

Kinda, the difference is that you don't need to take the output of the graphics card (so no need to run X), but you can send the video directly from a software.

peregus OP ,

Because do this kind of thing is fun! 😁
And since I share the Netflix account with my siblings, I can only watch it on a PC (with Edge to have 4K 🙈).
...but I'll keep the Roku option in mind. Thanks

peregus OP ,

I've never heard of those, but it seems that are both software and I wonna get rid of the PC connected to them TV.

peregus OP ,

Those are all chinese non branded products and none of them support 4K (maybe not even 2K) ☹️

peregus OP ,

That's right! I have to try it, thanks!

peregus OP ,

Since I'm sharing the Netflix account with my siblings, I can't use a smart TV, a Roku or another player but just a browser, because the hardware players should all be using the same Internet connection.

peregus OP ,

Thanks, I'll look into it.
I've never heard of this moonlight/sunshine and I'm curious!

peregus ,

Is it possible to issue and update certificates for LAN services?
About wildcard certificates, is it possible with Let's Encrypt?
Thanks!

peregus ,

I'm using Cloud flare, I'll look into it, thanks!

peregus ,

What is useless?

peregus ,

In my opinion it's more useful than yours.
Is it missing some description? Sure!
Do I like posts like this one? No.

But instead of shouting your comment with anger, why not write something like "why not add some description? The way you posted it is pretty useless".
It may work for this time and for the others for the OP (and for the others that have read your comment).

peregus ,

120? That doesn't seem normal, what services were you using within NC?
Mine sits still with a load of 0. something.

peregus , (edited )

A couple of words about the video wouldn't have been so bad.

Edit: By the way, very nice video! I'll have a look at the others too.

peregus ,

Do you know if he's on Lemmy? If not, if you can contact him, tell him to pass by!

peregus ,

😆

peregus OP , (edited )

Mmm...interesting, how did you arrive to that thought?

Edit1: in the meanwhile I've asked the seller if they have a custom firmware.
They have already answered me with 4 test of 4 drives that reports 1863h of work and about 130TB written

Edit2: the seller has answered me saying that they work with any SAS HBA controller

peregus OP ,

Reading around I've notice that there could be this risk and I've ask the seller if they're 520 or 512.

peregus OP ,

Hi Antsu, thanks for your precious feedback!

peregus OP ,

😆 You're right! I was so mad with myself for the wrong purchase that I couldn't think about anything!
By the way, thanks!

peregus OP ,

Yes, 8087 to 8482.
Thanks

peregus OP ,

That's why I use most of the services via Wireguard (except Nextcloud that is behind Cloudflare and MQTTs that's completely exposed)

peregus OP ,

I did this by installing nextcloud from docker running within a proxmox container. That proxmox lxc container has the nextcloud dataset passed into it.

That's almost what I'm doing (I'm using a VM in Proxmox where I install all my Docker containers).
Right now I'm thinking about encrypt only the data volume (a NFS share from Proxmos host) since all the sensible data will be there.

peregus OP ,

Why? What would be the problem?

P.s. Why did you link to the Anti Commercial-AI license?

peregus OP ,

On linux, you’re probably using LUKS. That has a header with the keys at the beginning of each encrypted volume. If those keys (or key if you only have one) is corrupted and you don’t have a backup of that, you’re fucked.

I got it, thanks!
I will rely on SnapRaid form redundancy and on backups on multiple devices/locations.
