People that solely focus on these "issues" are called "Nazis" because by all objective measures these are rare and inconsequential events that got way over-blown in the media and serve no other purpose than to distract from the real issues in Europe. If you can't or don't want to understand that you are either extremely stupid or are indeed a Nazi that is pushing an agenda. These "issues" are not being "ignored" and left "festering" because the real and only issue there are the people that think that these are "issues" aka Nazis.

Assuming the most benign interpretation: sorry but you are confusing justified self-defense with what actual fascist do. I guess you are familiar with the paradox of tolerance, but I recommend you thinking about that one again in the context of Antifa.

It's written in php Laravel, so it should be somewhat more lightweight than Mastodon, but not massively so.

Mastodon also has a bit of an unjustified bad reputation for that... yes for very small instances it is a resource hog, but it scales reasonably well to larger number of users after that initial bump.

Mostly voice calls. People get really confused if it looks like you are using WhatsApp but they can't call you through it.

Not impossible, but without a camera to scan the QR code it becomes quite annoying.

According to the main developer's mastodon feed, yes.

Both bridges require you to log into WA with the official app once every 4 weeks or so. You can put the app in a seperate profile and completely kill its process during this time or have an old device somewhere in a closet that you power on now and then. This is possible now since WA improved their multi-client support (maybe 1 year ago or so?).

That said, don't expect anything other than basic text chat to work via these bridges.

Groups are not (yet) supported by the proposed interoperability anyways... and don't hold your breath. It will likely take years for Meta and the EU in courts before they stop with their malicious compliance.

There are working WA bridges for XMPP and Matrix though if you are willing to selfhost.

I think once groups land in Pixelfed and the new app is released on the official app-stores, which will hopefully both happen this month, it is probably the best option if people are used to IG and Facebook.

poVoq , to Selfhosted in [PODMAN] Unable to run systemd services with quadlet systemd-generator
@poVoq@slrpnk.net avatar

First of all ensure you are on Podman version 5, as otherwise the .pod files will not work as it was just very recently added.

Then it should be Pod=backup.pod in the container file.

And AFAIK the .pod file also needs an section like this:

[Install]
# Start by default on boot
WantedBy=multi-user.target default.target

After a systemctl daemon-reload the corresponding .service file will be called backup-pod.service.

If it fails to start you can do a journalctl -e -u backup-pod.service to see the error message.

I have a Tplink Archer C7, which works great with OpenWRT. I also have a gl-inet device, which is fine, but WiFi reception is better with the C7.

If you end up buying a gl-inet device, first check if you can flash a recent mainline OpenWRT image on them. The modified OpenWRT they come with out of the box is often based on an outdated version.

but long-lived public server support is almost nonexistent these days

Uhm, that is untrue, especially compared to Matrix where multiple public servers recently had to shut down because of excessive server resource use.

But yes, like in any healthy federation it is better to run your own XMPP server.

I use both Lemmy and Akkoma, but yes I used to be quite active on Hubzilla when I had an instance of it.

Ah, good to know, thanks for the correction 👍

I don't really have a need for most of the features Hubzilla offers, so I think I'll stick to my Akkoma instance. But I encourage people to check out Hubzilla, as it is a neat project overall.
