refalo , to Free and Open Source Software in Ladybird web browser now funded by GitHub co-founder, promises ‘no code’ from rivals

then what's the point if you're still not getting away from the same people?

Non-technical is not the same as political, not even close. I explicitly chose that term because it's not considered subjective by anyone, but especially not by the people who think gender-neutrality is somehow NOT political. If you claim that it is, they just quip back with "a person's right to exist is not a political issue but a human rights one", which of course was never even the debate, they just twist things around to fit their narrative.

refalo , to Free and Open Source Software in SerenityOS and LadyBirds: Because These Things Shouldn't Hide in Closed Git Conversations - ░ Nova Online

Recently trans sjws have realized that companies and people will often cave to their demands because they're a protected class, and they're butthurt that they got bullied as kids, so now this is payback to them, the bullied becoming the bully and such.

I think the only people who actually care about that stuff are people with an agenda.

Because in recent years they have been weaponizing gender politics to try to "cancel" good projects for no reason.

"Silence is violence", forced CoC adoption, over-zealous use of the word "transphobe", ridiculous terminology changes (master/slave etc.), attempts to ban "wrongthink", you name it.

And if you don't comply, they come after you in every way possible, often with a few dedicated individuals dedicating all of their free time to investigating every possible company the project touches and then attacking them too, as well as doxxing everyone in their path. Like when recently tier-1 ISPs took it upon themselves to blackhole some websites from the whole planet? That was them too. EFF even wrote multiple articles about it.

refalo , to Technology in Australia to build Top Secret cloud in AWS for defence users

AWS literally advertises an isolated "GovCloud" service.

Non-technical discussion should just be banned.

refalo , (edited ) to Free and Open Source Software in Ladybird web browser now funded by GitHub co-founder, promises ‘no code’ from rivals

no it's not, and nobody worth listening to cares anyway.

please stop bringing up this absolute nothingburger.

refalo , to Privacy in RCS vs SMS/MMS?

What are the privacy implications of adopting RCS?

When it first came out, I specifically remember that trying to turn it on in the messages app makes you agree to hand over all your messages to google, so I never used it. But now it just seems to support it anyways, so not sure what happened to the agreement I never clicked on.

refalo , to Privacy in Privacy@Lemmy.ml: Do browsers block websites from uploading data that could be used for fingerprinting like resolution, installed fonts, etc.?

same way on all platforms

too bad navigator.platform still returns Linux instead of Windows...

refalo , to Privacy in Private WiFi camera for out of town viewing. Live view only. No storage.

When you say "app" do you mean something that will let you view remotely through a residential NAT connection with no port forwarding or hole punching? Because 99.9% of those options are inherently not private.

If you only need the camera itself to have a local feed i.e. you already have some kind of VPN/tunnel/etc. into your home network, then something like a cheap Amcrest works fine and does not require Internet access for the camera itself.

refalo , to Privacy in Privacy@Lemmy.ml: Do browsers block websites from uploading data that could be used for fingerprinting like resolution, installed fonts, etc.?

No, there is no way to prevent sites from uploading the info besides just not providing it in the first place.

And because of how programming languages work, there's no way for the browser to identify that data being uploaded "is" anything specific, especially when there's things like encryption, obfuscation or just re-arranging the data itself into larger collections of data.
