Why...? It's obviously a tool to spy on their citizens even more effectively and very possibly to spy on western citizens as well.

I'm all for alternatives to Android and iOS, but I'd rather be spied on by private companies than a country that pretty much plans to take over Asia and then the rest of the world in the coming decades (well, in my wet dreams SailfishOS matures as a real alternative and I don't have to choose Android at all).

Yeah, we had to rename AI to AGI, because marketing fuckers decided they're naming a (very smart) predictive model an AI. I've had a dumber version in my phone decades ago, this should've never been called AI.

Yeah, F-Droid sucks. The team makes arbitrary rules for the packages that are not mentioned anywhere on their website and rejecting packages based on said arbitrary rules. Happened to me.

As I said, it was a rule made up on a spot. Though recently I've read that they had a problem with one of the maintainers being a dick to people, so I'm curious if it was that one.

They lose the control anyway, because the deploy process is automated. Doesn't make sense to me at all. It's open source and it follows all their rules, rule against PWA is nowhere on F-Droid.

Their privacy is a joke. They harvest your data as much as anyone. Sure, Google harvests a little more, but given that Apple with their premium prices on everything could manage without harvesting data at all, yeah, they're as shitty as Google.

I've been thinking of switching, because Google sucks nowadays, though I'm not sure I really want to switch to another big corporation if I'm taking the effort of switching.

Same on the default search changing, I'm very much used to Google Search and it's gonna take me a while before I switch. Though I've already managed to switch from Gmail and it's kinda refreshing, so this will be just another step.

Same. Though according to the article, Google is still better than competition, so yeah, not that many alternatives.

I went with Proton Mail, one of the paid plans.

I particularly like Cinnamon, it's very simple and nothing fancy (while still looking great and modern).

The other popular choices include:

  • Gnome
  • KDE (customizable to hell)
  • XFCE (very easy on resources, good for old hardware, or if you like simplistic DE)
  • LXDE (similar to XFCE in the resources department, but looks more modern, IMO)

There are others, but I can't speak for them as I've never tried them. I can't really describe modern Gnome as well, because the last version I used was 3 and it doesn't look at all as the same DE, so someone else will have to provide that info.

Start recommending Cinnamon then, it's the best DE when switching from Windows.

You can get even more fancy and have a boot option for both with specialisations!

It's really similar to Windows in how you use it. Switching between Windows 11 and Cinnamon is as seamless as it can be.

There's almost no configuration or anything necessary, you just install it and it's great.

Chromecast with Google TV is not an option? Xiaomi TV Stick 4K also seems good enough and is cheaper (though I have no experience). If you like tinkering with stuff, you can buy a Raspberry Pi and turn it into Android TV yourself.

Yeah, there are more (I list all I could find in the sidebar of my community), but none specific to DALL-E. There's for example Stable Diffusion community and there are even some Midjourney ones (though not very popular), so I made one for DALL-E to complete the big 3.
