Right so it is owned by Defense Information Systems Agency... thats... scary...

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

Ah I wasnt not aware, the link provided by @anamethatisnt, seems to have cleared this up too!

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

Very interesting, had no idea this was a thing! Thanks for sharing.

LunchEnjoyer ,

njal.la is without a doubt one of the better ones if privacy is number one priority.

LunchEnjoyer ,

I second this, got the same setup and works wonders!

LunchEnjoyer ,

OP, treat yourself to using https://freetubeapp.io/ on desktop. It is in my opinion at least a much better experience than YT via web browser ever was.

LunchEnjoyer ,

Yes it does! It has also implemented DeArrow for better/normal video thumbnails and titles.
Here is a pic of some of the settings >>

Don't know about this, have never done it myself - but i assume so?

LunchEnjoyer ,

Might I suggest using syncthing instead? Never broke once for me and have been using it for years. Not had a conflicts either, as you can choose wether that happens or not in syncthing.

LunchEnjoyer ,

Isn't this an old thing by now? Pretty sure tabs that are not used for X amount of time are put to "sleep".

LunchEnjoyer ,

If you are into selfhosting then there is a great tool for this called StirlingPDF.

LunchEnjoyer ,

How is this done? If you don't mind sharing 🤗

LunchEnjoyer ,

Why do you include the CC link in all of your comments...?

The platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus),[3] sometimes referred to as the duck-billed platypus,[4] is a semiaquatic, egg-laying mammal endemic to eastern Australia, including Tasmania. The platypus is the sole living representative or monotypic taxon of its family Ornithorhynchidae and genus Ornithorhynchus, though a number of related species appear in the fossil record.

Together with the four species of echidna, it is one of the five extant species of monotremes, mammals that lay eggs instead of giving birth to live young. Like other monotremes, the platypus senses prey in cloudy water through electrolocation. It is one of the few species of venomous mammals, as the male platypus has a spur on the hind foot that delivers an extremely painful venom.

Man I am so grateful for this project, I was afraid it would feel polished enough after having been with Plex for the last few years. But hot damn Jellyfin is so much better and keeps on giving!

LunchEnjoyer ,

Not published yet, afaik

LunchEnjoyer ,

Have a look at Tailscale for your devices, this will prevent you from having to expose anything to the Internet, but rather having it behind your own VPN solution. Tailscale is the kinda service that is stupid easy to get going with too. HIGHLY recommend it!

LunchEnjoyer ,

Neber tried it with Android Auto before, but I doubt it would, it's a mesh vpn - not a typical vpn(proxy). So Tailscale is mostly for connecting your own devices together, however it's possible that configure it to use Mullvad for exit nodes, if needed.

Which privacy services would you donate to?

Due to financial problems, throughout my privacy journey I have only used free tools to enhance my privacy. I was recently thinking about the question: If I had the money to give back to the services I've used, which ones would I donate to? Here is my personal list, which is still a WIP:...

LunchEnjoyer ,

Not seen one of my favourite projects listed yet, so Jellyfin!!

Edit, forgot this was about privacy. Wopsi. But they do have better privacy than say plex.... If that counts 😅

LunchEnjoyer ,

Aslo more expensive than Bitwarden for example, should u want to pay for premium.

LunchEnjoyer ,

Every time I have to install Windows, even in VMs I install Atlas with it, getting rid of all bloat and unnecessary shit. But even with that it's a horrible experience compared to what KDE and Gnome deliver.

LunchEnjoyer ,

Happy to be a paying customer of Ente, always delivering 🙌

LunchEnjoyer ,

Very neat! Been looking for a good alternative for Spotify for a while, I hope this can completely cure me 🙌

What's a simple logging service?

Hiya, I'm looking to keep track of my different services in hosting via Unraid. Right now I'm hosting roughly 12 different services, but would be nice to have the logs of all my services in one place, preferably with a nice GUI. Are there any such services that could easily connect to the different docker containers I have...

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

I used to use Portainer quite a bit, but after migrating to Unraid i feel like their UI was a bit superior in most ways (for my use), but thanks:)

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

Dozzle looks really great, imma check this out 🌻

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

This looks exactly like what I was looking for thanks babes

LunchEnjoyer ,

This is my favourite newsletter atm, love checking out the new discoveries!

Office 365 asking for permissions to change browser settings (lemmy.world)

I have to use certain Microsoft apps for work, so I strictly only use the web versions as I am on Linux. However, just seen this setting pop up in Word while working on a document. I wonder what in specific they would change, considering i am on Firefox. Does anyone know anything about this? Is there an actual good reason for me...

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

Yeah wasn't gonna allow it, but crazy that there is no additional information or link to explain further. Most lesser tech savvy / privacy focus people would click this without hesitation, that is what bothers me the most...

LunchEnjoyer ,

I'd argue Firefox is the descent alternative.

There are a plethora of sources out there of good reasons not to use these browsers. But seriously, Firefox is an excellent browser, treat yourself to better privacy 🦊

LunchEnjoyer ,

Wow wow! Just trying the demo out feels super snappy and good, also crazy how fast the images load compared to other solutions i've tried! Will defo give this a shot when available on Unraid (Unless i do it myself).

Here's a 🌻 as my appreciation for your work!

LunchEnjoyer ,

Will do! 👌

LunchEnjoyer ,

Must admit, I too instantly thought this was about the Operating System... Nice idea though, I'm in 🌻

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

I like the idea! Although I do have a Nvidia Shield Pro, but I have a look around and see if there are any specific good TV OS that suits my needs. Thanks!

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

Yepp, fair point and likely what will end up happening :P

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

also a good idea!

LunchEnjoyer OP ,

It's beyond repair state. Also it's the second time it's happened, did actually repair them the first time, but this time it was way worse. Should have attached picture of it maybe, but wanted a new laptop for a while anyways 😋

LunchEnjoyer ,

Most games are compatible, you can also check https://protondb.com/ for each game, how people play it and how they run it. It's a very neat website!

About the jump: Do it now, and you'll thank yourself later. I did it with no prior experience myself and didn't find it difficult at all tbh, as previous comment suggested, try Mint first of you're afraid. And if you want an easy to use one that also focus on a bit of gaming then try PopOS! Don't let the amount of choices discourage or confuse you, just pick one and go with it. Feel free to message me if you ever need any help 🌻

LunchEnjoyer ,

From what I know they were perfectly aware of the situation but did little about it.. So thats a red flag. But yeah, there is a lot more to this, and that one source doesn't cover it all, and is another source that shills certain VPNs themselves, hence why I said its not a great source itself.
I can edit in some additional sources that are worth reading regarding the case when I get home.

But imo, there isn't a single good reason to use ExpressVPN, instead of Mullvad, IVPN or ProtonVPN.
