Although I understand the sentiment, the instrument under which the funding has been granted is called NEVI and has pretty strict requirements about what gets built (150kW rated, payment terminal equipped charging stations along major roads) as well as transparency requirements about reliability.

Is it really so? The specs are open, and Tesla has been permissive about letting other companies use their patents, but what would happen if they changed their minds?

Yea, Chinese people understand when you do that, but they first look at you with this confused look thinking 'he wants two chopstic pieces?' and then realize you have a vocabulary of a two-year-old.

Wouldn't that line of thinking imply that women don't have any agency about anything? Whatever they decide can be framed as a reaction to internalized fear.

Not to mention that gender roles also affect men.

The EU Data Act might partially apply, it requires companies to design their products so that any data they generate is locally accessible (that was my reading of it anyway) from sept 2025 onwards.

I built a few with ESP32CAM but its hard to get night vision and color camera with those. At least it's mostly open source.

I have been asked why the things I do are always so hard (implying that probably I just suck). It's true, I do suck at most things I do, because I seldom do the same thing for a very long time.

Still, that only works so long as learning the skill can be made fun and rewarding. I think school failed at this in many cases.

Is there a FOSS/privacy oriented IoT community?

Is there a community specific to FOSS or just general privacy oriented IoT? With plenty of hardware discussion along with software. Routers, piholes, Meshtastic, anything IoT but open source. If it touches a network but you want it to do something it doesn't. Flashing a doorbell camera with FOSS firmware. Hosting media servers...

We used to, here in Finland, but I think now they crush them and reform them into new bottles. The things cost 20c/piece, so everyone returns them.

I have been quite happy with Nokias (HMD Global). Only downside is poor spare part availability.
