A lot of incremental games I see are in perpetual development. They are never truly finished, the developer always promises that another content update is around the corner. And those content updates get released, and the games eventually get really big. They grow to have prestige layers approaching the double digits, or months...

First off, a definition: I define the “abstractness” of an incremental to be based on how much it is removed from other genres. For example, Kittens Game and Clicker Heroes are not abstract – the first is themed around civilization building while the second one takes mechanics from RPGs. Meanwhile, Prestige Tree is a prime...
This is a game I've been waiting on for awhile. The trailer looks so beautiful, and I think it'll scratch that incremental game itch. It's narrative driven and probably shorter than most incremental games, so I'd consider buying this mostly if you're into other games that focus more on graphics and story, like spaceplan or gnorp...
This thread is dedicated to sharing mechanics or concepts you’ve found in incremental games that you think deserve more use or exploration. I’d prefer if you limited discussions to mechanics you’ve found in only 1 or 2 games, though I have no moderator powers to actually enforce this so if you really feel like sharing...

I'm sure most of us are aware that a lot of the mechanics of incremental games rely on things like skinner boxes to make us want to keep playing by just promising us future positive moments, rather than just giving us positive moments....
By recognizable I mean ones your can tell a game was made in it immediately. Engines like IGM, TMT, or Profectus....
I've been working on a new game, and it's designed to be a multiplayer game, focused on collaboration with player interactions that are "progression agnostic", like applying mutual %-based buffs. I'm also planning on having regular resets and starting new "seasons" a few times a year where mechanics get tweaked, added, etc....
Personally I really the loops subgenre, with stuff like stuck in time, increlution, cavernous, etc. They give such a strong sense of progression over time. I think a lot of that is how the speed improvements are polynomial so progression didn't feel like it diminished over time.
I'll start, with less of a discovery and more of a full history:...

It is a sort of tradition among some in the incremental games community to publish joke games every 1st of April. Many are quickly forgotten, some can be legitimately enjoyable, and a select few develop cult followings. This year is no exception....

I used Visual Basic for literally 10 years. What a nightmare. Now I use Godot!
To be more precise, what do you seek to accomplish when you develop a game and release it for the world to see? What is the effect you desire your games to have on their players, and what do you hope to gain from these games?...

I've been playing Idle Bouncer for the past several days. It was kinda cool at first because you have multiple tubes with all the balls bouncing and at least two or three tubes would contribute to your income....

(Edit: The author primarily plays incremental games via a web browser, and is not well-acquainted with the more casual mobile incremental game community if there is one. Because of this, please note that the "innovations in the genre" referred to in this post come mostly from web-based incrementals, and the "morally dubious...
I've been really enjoying this demo for a game called epic auto towers, even moreso than I enjoyed super auto pets, which I think is fair to say the same genre. Compared to SAP, this game is PvE, and adds relics and bosses. Ultimately it has a ton of really satisfying combos that can get really high stats, and I'm super excited...
