XDG doesn't mean you need a GUI. XDG is a specification on how to set up config, cache, etc. directories. aria2 should work without setting anything up.

Trying to get a real debrid client to work right. It seems the internal downloader doesn't work, and it supported using aria2.

Already done that. This is the only one that supports working with sonarr and radarr afaik.

Set up a minimal server VM instead? You don't need to install a GUI on a VM.

Debian minimal uses very few resources, that's what I use.

Should be able to just install the package xdg-user-dirs on any distro. Would probably work fine in LXC containers too.
