When faced with a series of unfortunate events, I make a series of poor choices.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

careful, that's a hardcore tankie troll you replied to.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

doesn't need to, nor does localisation matter for this topic.

it's a matter of centrifugal forces on turns.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

doubt, but I'd believe it.

If we can tell if we are in the front or backseat due to how it feels when you go around corners and such, so can your phone.

driver side vs passenger would be the same deal.

of course, this is presuming the phone is on your person. Which, if you weren't driving - it would be.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

"when i drive i put my phone in the center"

that's my point. Or a holder of some kind.

as opposed to passengers who basically never put their phones in the center console.

especially for a taxi or uber. That would be insane.

again: the question is: are you a driver or a passenger? And I'm saying that that distinction is very plausible to make.

if your sole goal is to make it harder to tell in an accident, sure. This is just sensor data, not clairvoyance.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

if you say so. you're completely wrong, but whatever helps you sleep at night.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

right, but your friend doesn't put their purse in back seat if they're sitting in the front, or visa versa, right?

no person driving should have their phone on them when they're driving, so it's an easy spot to exclude. The rest is logic, sensors and probability.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

I'm not sure what you're saying, but it sounds like the opposite of what I am, and what's the opposite of what's legal in most places.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

no moving of goalposts.

the topic is "driver or not", nothing more.

there are four options to sit in, generally speaking.

you're saying both people in the front have the same gyro data. That's fine; my point is she's not in the back - or if she is, such as in a taxi or uber (which is the original situation) - it's detectable.

do you remember when phones started automatically remembering where you parked? they did that by knowing a) your speed changing b) the pedometer counting (among other things). My point is: this isn't as impossible as you and others seem to claim. That's it.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

in a phone holder attached to your windscreen or vent.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

nope.

I bet you think the inside and outside of a record turn at the same speed.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

gps nav, music, etc.etc.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

in some parts of the world, it is, yes. And they put up cameras to catch and fine people for it. Ridiculous or not. 🤷‍♂️

two different things: yes, you can make a plausible determination of a person's position in a car based on sensors. yes, you can also not have enough data to make that determination.

It's absolutely possible with things like usage and gyroscopic sensors. You want to say software could never figure it out, I'll leave you to it. It's high school level physics.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

I'm with you there.

Perfect was the enemy of good enough, and now we still have coal everywhere.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

...are you running your own instance just for you?

I thought upvote.au was an amusing domain, and the TLD only for Australians - but you're in SF?

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

all good, just thought it was amusing! ☺️👍

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

but maybe later.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

it's worth thinking if they put that money in a basic account with 5% interest (I get 4.5% in one of my accounts and 5.2% in another, so I'll simplify), with $24k in there, that would be $100 per month, or 20% of their monthly budget.
7% is quite common with basic etfs, but it's more annoying to move money back to pay bills then. My point is: this could/should last even longer. Money which doesn't increase in value, loses value (inflation).

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

I'm going to start my own Twitter! With blackjack and hookers!

You know what, forget the Twitter!

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,
ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

right, which means it isn't "religion" as a concept which is the problem.

Also, sexuality is pretty commonly open in Hinduism, which is a pretty huge current religion.

It isn't a problem with "religion".

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

short for "xitter", pronounced the Chinese way, "shitter"

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

I love how reporters do their diligence to check with Twitter before reporting on a story, and just get that emoji as a response, so have to report it.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

worse. rabbithole. ever.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

compensation... for doing the job he is paid to do... right.

look, if you live at the end of a long shitty dirt road, or maybe the last apartment on the top floor of a 6 story walk up - then they're going above and beyond. Hell yeah, tip more.

Tip to be nice, because times are tough and you have some extra cash.

But don't tip because someone did the bare minimum that they get paid to do anyway.

Don't tip because it's expected. Don't tip if you can't afford it.

you, by simply spending what little you have and can, are helping pay their wage already. You're doing your part. That is: don't feel guilty if you can't or don't tip.

Do feel warm and fuzzy if you can and do tip, though. it's still nice to do :)

given Linus' flair for writing replies, I would love to see him rip into Elon.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

if they don't serve a purpose, then where are we supposed to live when we're only staying in a place for a few months or years?

Or what if I'm trying to save up money to buy a house? Am I just supposed to live in a hotel, or on the street?

If only there was an option somewhere between a hotel and buying a house... 🤔

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

you sound exactly like every capitalist. There's infinite resources! We don't live in 3 dimensional space!

jeezus, you're somewhere between insane and delusional.

also, lol at how you have no idea how loans work.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

tl;dr

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

tldr: "Soon after, YouTube confirmed on X that Audego's copyright claim was indeed invalid. The social platform ultimately released the claim and told Albino to expect the changes to be reflected on his channel within two business days."

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

nothing of what you wrote has anything to do with the first amendment.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

"I can't decide"

yes, we are all well aware of how dumb you are. Your stupidity is becoming quite well known on Lemmy.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

no.

ASeriesOfPoorChoices ,

I'm lazy, that's why I prefer metric. It's infinitely easier than dealing with fractions.
