Not that surprising unfortunately :/

I really like Readeck, it is very polished and the fact that it copies links content is very useful when saving Medium blog posts (and generally to make sure that I don't lose the content if the linked page is ever removed)

Actually Google has been forced to offer choices on Android in the EU, but for existing devices the prompt only consists of a permanent notification that you can easily ignore: my partner has been ignoring it for the past month.

I waited until the last day of support to upgrade from Windows 7 to 10, I plan on doing the same with Windows 10.

With Windows 10 and 11 Microsoft has been gradually removing control from the user's hands and I'm still miffed about that.

Yeah, modern Windows and HDDs don't mix well. I refurbished multiple laptops and each time just throwing in a cheap SSD (and cleaning the cooler + sometimes reapplying thermal paste) would breathe new life into them.

Is it just me or this article is riddled with typos and gramatical errors?

The issue is that most of them are limited in the amount of passkeys they can manage.

In the case of the Yubikey 5

Currently, YubiKeys can store a maximum of 25 passkeys.

https://www.yubico.com/blog/a-yubico-faq-about-passkeys/

BlackEco ,
@BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com avatar

Yes, you need a passkey per service, so you would quickly end up with your 25 slots full.

BlackEco ,

Right, now I remember reading about that, I forgot.

I personally went for PiHole + DNS-over-TLS / DNS-over-HTTPS in order to use PiHole on my phone while outside my home. It doesn't require to constantly have a VPN active, which saves a bit of battery life. Its only drawbacks are that it requires a domain name for DNS-over-HTTPS, a way to route traffic to your server and additional setup and software (Dnsproxy and Certbot)

BlackEco ,
@BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com avatar

Yeah, I have a Docker Compose example. I left out the SSL certificate generation out of it because users can piggy-back on Nginx Proxy Manager ou Caddy to handle it for them.

I'm not familiar with off-the-shelf DNS filtering on mobile, but since running a DNS resolver on-device would be impractical, I think they must be using a DNS server that they maintain. Which means that unless I'm wrong, the vulnerability lies on their end, you should be fine.

BlackEco OP ,
@BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com avatar

It's the latter. Unless you run your own DNS resolver, most people are safe

BlackEco OP ,
@BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com avatar

They maintain their own resolver, so they have to patch it if not done already.

BlackEco OP ,
@BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com avatar

I struggle to find if it uses DNSSEC or even a change log. If it does, contact the maintainer and disable DNSSEC (if you can) until a fix is released.

BlackEco OP ,
@BlackEco@lemmy.blackeco.com avatar

If you use a third-party's DNS server (such as Cloudflare, Quad9 or Google) as your upstream DNS server, you only have to update PiHole.

If you have set up your own upstream DNS server using a DNS resolver like unbound or Bind9, update it as well as your PiHole.

Exactly, I don't get the "Mastodon as a poor man's RSS agregator" trend

I'm more disappointed by their decision to not consider Microsoft's Edge and Bing as core platforms, even though the former is being pushed way too hard in Windows and the later is used as part of other search engines' indexes (ie. DuckDuckGo, Kagi, Qwant)

You're probably looking for something that supports OPDS to automatically download e-books to your e-reader.

First search result is Komga

I got the full-screen splash screen depicted on the second screenshot a couple of weeks ago, I screamed "No!" thinking Microsoft upgraded me to W11 without my consent. My partner thought my computer was broken 😂

TrueNAS SCALE as host with an Ubuntu LTS VM running Docker containers.

Original I went with only containers running on top of SCALE but both iX and TrueCharts made it harder to run plain Docker Compose on TrueNAS.

Someone should create a leaderboard of websites sharing data with the most "partners", this week I saw someone on Mastodon posting a screenshot of a website sharing to 1700+ third-parties.

    How is that article even remotely related to Technology other than Steve Ballmer being former CEO of Microsoft?

    Also the article is mostly empty and was written from a single quote from Ballmer.

    Great, unless someone reverse engineers WMR into SteamVR, my headset is going to be a paper weight "some time in the future"...

    Well, the engineers say it themselves: nothing would prevent websites developers to prevent access from browsers that do not support this "Web DRM".

    My biggest fear though is that it becomes a standard which all browsers will have to support to stay relevant. And with Google building the engine used by the vast majority of browsers, they can force this upon other browser engines (ie. Safari and Firefox).
