DingoBilly , to Technology in Bard becomes Gemini: Google launches their most powerful LLM, Ultra 1.0

Oh interesting. Thanks. I'll look into it further to understand the differences.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Bard becomes Gemini: Google launches their most powerful LLM, Ultra 1.0

I'm not sure you're correct on the last point. My understanding is copilot gets chatgpt 4 turbo which is the paid version, as well as other parts like dall-e 3 so for free it's definitely the best option....

And fair enough on the google stuff being free for at least 2 months. That makes more economic sense.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Bard becomes Gemini: Google launches their most powerful LLM, Ultra 1.0

It is surprising from a competitive perspective though in that Google is behind already, so putting it behind a pay wall doesn't help with that.

When you're the size of Google surely you make it as free as possible and lose some money to gain marketshare back.

Why the fuck would I pay for Gemini which I've basically never heard of vs. GPT 4 which for better or worse is considered the coming of the new AI revolution.

Also GPT 4 is easily accessible for free for most people via the Bing app, so not like you have to pay for general use.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Microsoft revives aggressive Windows 11 upgrade campaign with intrusive popups for Windows 10 users

? My experience is as valid as anyone else's.

If you can't cope with that then I guess you are the one huffing copium.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Microsoft revives aggressive Windows 11 upgrade campaign with intrusive popups for Windows 10 users

Yes I agree. This is why I use Windows over Linux because Linux requires too much tinkering....

Thanks?

DingoBilly , to Technology in Microsoft revives aggressive Windows 11 upgrade campaign with intrusive popups for Windows 10 users

Ultimately it will all be anecdotal.

I've done plenty of upgrades without issues.

And I've tried Linux and found it abysmal with way too much of the sorts of issues you've mentioned.

So for me Linux is obviously a no go, but I could see why it would appeal perhaps to someone like yourself. Ultimately we are directed by our experiences.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Microsoft revives aggressive Windows 11 upgrade campaign with intrusive popups for Windows 10 users

Everyone says to just keep it at Windows 10 or that Windows 11 is not that bad as that's the majority of people. It's a small group that says to just use Linux, and if you think it's everyone it suggests you are in an echo chamber/don't participate widely enough in various communities.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Vivaldi explains why they will not embed LLM functionality in their browser

Lol. People are way too tribalistic about their favourite products.

I'm not even saying anything negative - adding AI to your product is not a big deal, and they'll do it when it makes sense to. Not sure why you have an issue with that/don't understand that's their intent as it's very clearly stated by them.

Literally here you go:
"Despite all this, we feel that the field on machine learning in general remains an exciting one and may lead to features that are actually useful. In the future, we hope that it will allow us to bring good privacy-respecting features to our users with a focus on improving discoverability and accesibility. "

DingoBilly , to Technology in Vivaldi explains why they will not embed LLM functionality in their browser

Yeah they did, but with some nice words around it all.

Did you read the article? It's literally that llms are not at a stage where they're useful. And then they end that once they become useful they'll look at adding them in.

And Vivaldi is a business like any other, so it's ultimately commercially driven. If you think they're just running the business for the sake of being good then you're incredibly naive.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Vivaldi explains why they will not embed LLM functionality in their browser

Basically, there's no commercial benefit at this stage.

Once there is benefit they will add it in.

Whole lot of article for nothing.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Google Chrome Warning Issued For All Windows Users

This is a super clickbait title.

Yes, what Microsoft does is pretty shitty but the article sounds like there's some massive zero day hack or something to watch out for when it's just standard business practice.

DingoBilly , to Technology in YouTube now suggests new content *by colour*

Seems great for giving more options for people who want this. I know a few neurodiverse people who would love something like this.

Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it's bad.

DingoBilly , to Technology in It’s Surprisingly Easy to Live Without an Amazon Prime Subscription

The crap people write nowadays.

It's surprisingly easy to live without any subscription. I don't have any. If you're tech savvy you can either block most ads that subscriptions give you, or bypass the service entirely and get free premium or just dl videos/music etc.

And as the services get worse there's little incentive to actually keep a subscription. Netflix is becoming pretty dogshit for example.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Microsoft stole my Chrome tabs, and it wants yours, too

Yeah it doesn't do what I want unfortunately. I tried a few extensions but they couldn't replicate it well enough.

Thanks though!

DingoBilly , to Technology in Microsoft stole my Chrome tabs, and it wants yours, too

On PC, Group tabs for me. I find it extremely useful for efficiency. There's nothing equivalent on Firefox even with extensions.

I could just give up on them admittedly but once you get used to something it's hard to change and I fucking hate having too many tabs open.

On Android, the performance was just worse than chromium based browsers. Not sure if it was something wrong with my settings, but I'm talking like at least 1-2 second lag differences in loading a basic Web page. Makes it unusable for me.
