DingoBilly , to Comic Strips in Why so sad?

Not sure why downvoted... Main reason to have a pet pig is to grow it to eat it.

DingoBilly , to Technology in US lawmakers vote 50-0 to force sale of TikTok despite angry calls from users

Lemmy does draw a certain crowd unfortunately.

DingoBilly , to linuxmemes in Sell it cheap, we appreciate.

Lol ok.

This is getting to Y2K hype levels, and in a similar fashion, will not do anything.

I get Linux people like to fanboy/shit over Windows but surely you're tech literate enough to realize this is making a mountain from a molehill.

DingoBilly , to linuxmemes in That's LTT in the bottom

Yep exactly this. The user friendliness and likeliness it just works is much higher for Windows.

If it doesn't work for Linux I've found it also will generally take much longer to figure out and fix.

DingoBilly , to Technology in OpenAI shares Elon Musk emails urging startup to raise $1 billion, see Tesla as a cash cow in its early years

Does this help them or hinder them though?

Isn't it possible they basically said no, and that they wanted to remain not for profit? So he quit and then they went for profit?

Doesn't really help their case...

DingoBilly , to Comic Strips in Not Invented Here

Off the shelf software always promises to do what you want it to... But we've always found it fails to deliver and end up having to code a solution around it anyhow.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Online vape seller has ‘no intention of stopping’ shipments to Australia, despite nationwide ban — ‘We have no intention of stopping just because of one twat in Canberra.’

Sometimes it works out great (banning guns in Australia for most people), other times it's terrible (banning alcohol in America).

But in general, vapes are shit and should be banned. No issues there. This producer will soon be blocked pretty easily.

DingoBilly , to Privacy in I installed Windows 10 in a virtual machine...man, this is straight up dystopian.

If you have any basic computer skills it's really not an issue. You can turn off pretty much anything. I can't remember the last time I saw an ad within Windows tbh.

This is just fearmongering at its worst. It's like me saying Linux is only for IT companies running servers because it's unusable for a normal person as the UI is janky and it's all code based.

DingoBilly , to Privacy in Copilot doesn't like it when it's questioned about Microsoft's certain actions?

The AI actually handled that pretty well.

I'd say it's much more reasonable than the person messaging it in this situation who comes off a bit unhinged.

DingoBilly , to Comic Strips in Sealioning

It depends on the context as always.

Sealioning as genuine trolling is shitty and done in bad faith.

But it is completely fair to call out people and ask them for evidence when they make broad statements that are easily verifiable like "black people are more violent than white people" or "Republicans are just as unfriendly towards poor people as Democrats" Etc.

But yeah, here without the context it's easy to get confused what Sealioning actually is.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Bitcoin miners win legal battle to keep mum about energy use [US]

It's more that noone cares about the actual use cases of crypto and are just using it as speculative gambling.

Bitcoin is the literal equivalent of a horse and carriage while cars exist. If any crypto survives it should be the proof of stake crypto not the badly designed bitcoin (noting of course, for its time it was amazingly innovative, just that it's no longer actually useful).

Not to mention the whole design flaw that it's meant to be completely private/anonymous but ironically is one of the most public and traceable things ever created.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Gemini: Who negatively impacted society more, Elon Musk or Hitler?

When you ask chatgpt for a question it will usually provide references for its answers at the bottom of the response.

I'm this case, 123 refers to source 1, 2 and 3. I didn't include them in the copy/paste as it didn't add anything, but it would just be links to things like Wikipedia or news articles.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Gemini: Who negatively impacted society more, Elon Musk or Hitler?

I am getting that now as well. But the response I received at the time was definitely the same as what Gemini was giving.

I suspect they either updated it or its just usual llm nonsense of giving different results.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Gemini: Who negatively impacted society more, Elon Musk or Hitler?

Nope, using chatgpt 4.

I suspect they have either updated it or its just the usual llm nonsense of giving you different results depending on when you run it.

DingoBilly , to Technology in Reddit Is Letting Power Users In on Its IPO. Not Everyone’s Buying

Linux has its uses yes.

Posters here act like the everyday consumer gives a fuck about it though, and they don't. Great for servers, garbage for consumers.

And I'm sure lemmy can be used to replace reddit for most things, but again - the majority of everyday people won't because it's convoluted and not as good for their needs.
