Best I can do is a YouTube video with ads for dick pills.

EvilBit ,

Actually I remember when it was still “elite” and it meant you had access to the warez section of a BBS.

EvilBit ,

They might also have a much smaller launch signature, meaning harder response to a first-strike launch. But I’m not a physicist or nuclear deterrence expert or anything.

EvilBit ,

I’m not an expert, but wouldn’t proper deletion be writing random ones and zeroes to the block? Multiple times?

EvilBit ,

It certainly feels more deleted…

EvilBit ,

Moral of the story: kids, be born rich and then you can live in a mansion and eat bath salts!

EvilBit ,

Wait, so…

  1. Lives in a shipping container
  2. Obviously on drugs
  3. Receives welfare from the government
  4. Screams racist shit at strangers

Is… is Elon Musk a hobo?

EvilBit ,

Stop trying to coin the phrase “streets ahead”.

EvilBit ,

Google sabotaged Windows Phone to protect Android. They refused to serve even standard Google web apps to the WP browser, instead relegating users to years-old mobile versions that looked and worked terribly. You could literally edit the user string on the Windows browser and get the modern, perfectly functional version. Then there was the constant YouTube fuckery where Google wouldn’t make a YouTube app for them, then wouldn’t let them make their own app either. The entire point was to starve the system to kill it in the cradle and on some level, it probably worked.

Looking at the fact that Google is under intense anticompetitive scrutiny now and has been egregiously destroying evidence every chance they get shows that this isn’t out of character for them.

EvilBit ,

I actually know that. It’s a reference to Community, which either inadvertently or otherwise acted like it’s not a real saying.

EvilBit ,

All good! Community is a great show. Check it out.

EvilBit ,

100%. They went from understanding the perils of success to exemplifying the worst of it. Don’t be (caught being) evil.

EvilBit ,

There are services that will migrate playlists. They’re not perfect, but I’ve seen them work before. I can’t remember the one I used.

EvilBit ,

That sounds familiar. I think I used it too. Thanks!

EvilBit ,

My short take is the audio quality is mediocre for music or anything artistic, but using the Shokz OpenComm for work, I’ll never go back. Best work headset I’ve ever used. I can wear it all day and sometimes almost forget to take it off at the end of the day.

EvilBit ,

I honestly couldn’t say firsthand how the mic sounds, but I loaned it to a colleague and she said people noted how well they could hear her. She said she was going to get one herself even though she hadn’t quite figured out how to get it to work with her hair.

Battery life is good I think. I can’t remember exactly, and mileage varies, but while I wouldn’t bet my life on it lasting through eight hours straight of constant calls, it’s probably an all-day battery for the vast majority of people’s use cases.

My only real complaints are that the buttons are kind of confusing and poorly programmed (volume up/power is the forward of the two buttons on the bottom of the right arm behind your ear), and the charging cable is a weird proprietary magnetic thing.

EvilBit ,

I would never use it for music except with no other option, but I find my OpenComm headset seems to be tuned incredibly well for voice. That’s my only use case: online meetings. It’s excellent for that, but I use other sets for anything I intend to enjoy.

EvilBit ,

Yeah, both computer and on-headset controls work for adjusting volume. But there’s a giant orange button on the side that could be a nice power button, but instead they use volume up. And volume up/down are positioned forward/back. It’s just a little perplexing.

EvilBit ,

Yeah, this is definitely gonna work, as if I haven’t been over 18 years old since I was 12 years old, according to every birthdate question ever.

EvilBit ,

Heads up, the headline is kind of misleading. “Going sleeper” is just their internal slang for getting laid off. It doesn’t mean some kind of protest or activism.

EvilBit ,

And we all know everybody’s great at reading the article.

EvilBit ,

Exactly. They wanted to highlight the dumb “sleeper” line for some reason, even though it’s probably the least newsworthy part of the message. “Geek Squad faces huge layoffs, members call it ‘going sleeper’” is much clearer but still a waste of time and space.

EvilBit ,

I’m very good at wasting time and space effectively.

EvilBit ,

Shine on, lazy diamond.

EvilBit ,

“Who’s Cortana? I don’t know who you’re talking about. Surely you’ve mistaken me for someone else. My name’s, uh, Blortana.”

EvilBit ,

Are you concerned about the forced arbitration they recently pushed on everyone? That caused me to drop them but I’m curious about your take.

EvilBit ,

Thanks for the elaboration. I was really dismayed because the Roku stick felt like the simple, safe option for so long compared to Amazon and Google. I’d pay extra for an Apple TV, but sometimes I actually like the stick format.

EvilBit ,

Yeah, it’s a double-edged sword to have things that can constantly update, for better or worse.

EvilBit ,

I’ll just leave this here.

EvilBit ,

The cycle is:

  1. Provide a useful service to users at a loss to make the service indispensable
  2. Claw back some of that value for business customers (advertisers) to lock them in
  3. Claw back some of that value for the company

They’re describing how nice step 1 was.

EvilBit ,

I know this isn’t what you asked for exactly, but if you’re interested in a more useful device, there are e-ink note takers like the Ratta Supernote (which I have) that sync with cloud services and let you write and draw on the screen and on documents. They’re pricey, but life-changing if they fit into your workflow.

Otherwise, I’ll second the Kobo. I have the predecessor to the Libra 2 (Libra H2O) and it’s just a phenomenal device. Literally my only complaint is it has a micro USB port (fixed on the current Libra 2).

EvilBit ,

The pen never needing replacement nibs is an irrationally big factor for me.

EvilBit ,

While you’re not wrong overall, eyeglasses do specifically put weight on the bridge of your nose, which sucks. Properly fitted, the weight of a headset should be carried by your forehead, the base of your skull, and other broader and more robust bones.

EvilBit ,

Sure, but you’re comparing apples to oranges. It’s like saying your shoes are super comfortable when we’re talking about how much our knees hurt. 50 grams on your forehead is nothing.

Like I said, the person is right overall, I’m just trying to direct the conversation to the appropriate domain.

Musk says Tesla will hold shareholder vote ‘immediately’ to move company’s incorporation to Texas (www.forbes.com.au)

Musk says Tesla will hold shareholder vote ‘immediately’ to move company’s incorporation to Texas::Billionaire Elon Musk justified the decision on the results of an unscientific poll run on his X account a day earlier.

EvilBit ,

Oh thank Christ I can start using my Roomba again and not sell it.

EvilBit ,

The catch here is that I don’t like people who try to destroy my friends’ lives. Since the conservative platform is to destroy many of my friends’ lives, I don’t like people who follow the conservative platform. Conservatives like to treat this as bigotry when it actually isn’t. It’s intolerance of intolerance, which is not just acceptable, but necessary.

EvilBit ,

The clear anti-LGBTQ+ conservative stance is no secret. Same with the white supremacy and Christian nationalism.

EvilBit ,

This feels like a bad faith hair-splitting argument. But just in case you’re not being deliberately obtuse, the conservative platform views LGBTQ+ rights, minority voting rights, women’s bodily rights, and many other important matters of human freedom and livelihood as invalid. Just because they don’t explicitly say “our platform is specifically to maliciously destroy the lives of these people”, doesn’t mean the de facto platform is not destructive of those lives.
