Eating many coconuts will cause diarrhea.

Agree to terms, climb tree, pick a nut. Change terms by tossing the nut on the head of the wannabe job creator.

Eat the nut with fresh meat on the side.
Die from dehydration.

I don't get the comment here, they didn't 'express their opinion' about Israel. They behaved like a bunch of lunatics within Google's offices.
If you want to protest Google's actions send a signed letter of resignation stating the reason, send it to the press and form a union of techies that won't work for companies that work with Israel recursively.

On a side note, I like how none of them mind building mass surveillance tools, pushing ads, Google-China relations, etc...
But Israel's genocide is trending, so they jump on that. What a bunch of shallow fucks.

GarlicToast ,

This protest achieved nothing so far.

If you want to actually make a difference, leave Google, go do bioinformatics (am biased here), exact agriculture or any other shit that actually solves real problem.

All I see in those rallies a bunch of people that work at Google to maximize their earnings that are mad when Google does the same.

GarlicToast ,

Oh wow, people are talking about it.

In the real world, not enough techies are willing to work on solving problems related food shortages (for example), while people are starving to death.

GarlicToast ,

Green revolution?

The newest solution I know of is using optimization algorithms to vastly reduce the cost of experiments on vegetables storage. They not only showed how to optimize storage, they also showed how to store certain types cheaply for 4 times long.

One of the issues is food distribution, and that will help there.

GarlicToast ,

I'm not rich, I chose to earn less money and live a lower quality apartment.

We don't have many years to work on solutions. You may never have enough for you and yours.

GarlicToast ,

Ten percent of humans suffer from hunger. This is much bigger than just Gaza.

GarlicToast ,

Your comment is unrelated what-so-ever to what I wrote.

GarlicToast ,

Pegasus, and probably other tools, can infect phones through ads. Google's ads network is a weapon.

GarlicToast ,

Improvements in storage allow for longer transportation. This is but one example.

There are many other improvements, from more efficient water usage to reducing the need for other costly interventions.

Some may be possible to allow richer agriculture in poorer areas, reducing the need for distribution.

GarlicToast ,

My message comes within a context.

GarlicToast ,

Where did I say they shouldn't?

GarlicToast ,

I'm not a brain-rotted manager, I know how to buy a desk and arrange a work station.

GarlicToast ,

My highly non-technical SO cursed Microsoft when they pushed that shit into her computer. She didn't need to understand what AI means, it took space on her task bar and showed useless notifications. Making her annoyed by the space taken, disturb her focus and slow her computer.

She is stuck on Windows due to a tool she is dependent upon. Already asked me to install Linux on her computer once she have a replacement that will work on Linux.

tl;dr: non technical people are too pissed at MS.

GarlicToast ,

Are you talking about a laptop or a desktop?
If desktop, using offload or something like that?

GarlicToast ,

Nvidia works flawlessly most of the time on desktops. The suckyness of their drivers shows its ugly head mostly on laptops.

And it's bad, crash your computer bad some times.

GarlicToast ,

Three laptops ago it mostly worked with FOSS solutions around the driver.
Nvidia mostly killed them, and intreduced their own unstable solution.
As far as I care, if they won't fix it before my hardware dies, the next laptop will have a GPU by another manufacture.

GarlicToast ,

NixOS or Debian. Don't install Ubuntu or Arch on your work computer.

GarlicToast ,

Ubuntu is really buggy. Including bug reports that has a simple fix and stay open for years.

Just look how they handled Graphviz

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/graphviz/+bug/1409280

They somehow manage to break packages that just work everywhere else.

On top of that they add shity homemade solutions such as snap cus they have to reinvent the wheel. They than discard them a few years later and use proper solution created by more capable people (upstart lol).

GarlicToast ,

This differ by countries. Here I'm required by law to operate the car as needed to operate it safely.

If the cloud vanish, I am allowed to put sunglasses, if I get vapor on my windshield I am allowed to push the button to remove it and so on.

But you have to do it safely and smartly. If you get in an accident that you would have been able to prevent otherwise, you may be found at fault. Even if you didn't cause it.

GarlicToast ,

Is there any place left for your hands? I have never, ever seen a car that is built like that.

Opinion: It's Time To Ditch 2.4GHz WI-FI

2.4GHz wifi is not suitable for two big reasons, interference and low bandwidth. 2.4GHz wifi in any kind of suburban or city environment and sometimes even in rural will be congested with other networks, microwaves, other appliances, etc causing massive speed degradation or fluctuations. The range of 2.4GHz is just too large for...

GarlicToast ,

You sound like a USA citizen. There many places in the world where walls are made of concrete.
5Ghz doesn't penetration concrete.

In such cases, the only way to get 5GHz into every room will be passing cat5 cable in the wall and placing an AP.

Passing a cable in concrete walls requires a pipe in the wall, that was placed there when the house was built! But in many cases, the tunnels that exists are too narrow for cat5 and are already in use anyway.

So to fulfill your idea and still have WiFi we will need to raze to the ground whole cities and rebuild them.

Unless you are footing the bill, and take care of the CO2 emissions, just learn to disable 2.4GHz on your router.

GarlicToast ,

I agree with the sentiment, but I think cat5 is enough for at home deployment. My edge device isn't using 1Gb now, and it won't use 10 in ten years. Mostly because it may be cheaper to replace when needed than to deploy for future proofing.

For offices and such I agree, as the disruption of work for a few days may cost more than future proofing the net.

GarlicToast ,

You can't create a relaiable AI to detect AI. Anyone that told you otherwise is selling you snakeoil.

GarlicToast ,

Mistakes in the Linux kernel can cause damages that are measured in millions and even get people killed.

If you can't be bothered to focus on your work and get criticism when you fuck up, work on something else.

Linus' message here isn't personal, his criticism is limited to the product created by the person. Something that any mentally healthy adult should have no problem with.

GarlicToast ,

Sir, email is text based communication, no yelling was involved.

GarlicToast ,

Shouting near someone may cause damage to the hears. Don't do that. Capital letters let me understand you are emotional, but cause no earing loss.

GarlicToast ,

What's the effect of having rust in the kernel?

GarlicToast ,

If you don't see how unaligned the numbers are, you are drunk.
