Apple to allow iOS app downloads direct from websites in the EU (with restrictions), in compliance with the Digital Markets Act (www.pcmag.com)

Developers interested in distributing iOS apps on their websites also have to cross a high bar. This includes being registered or incorporated in the EU, being a member of “good standing in the Apple Developer Program for two continuous years or more,” and having an app that received “more than one million first annual...

I bet there is a strong WiFi spot a few feet above the building.

Are there tools that exist to anonymize writing styles?

I feel like with the rise of AI something that anonymizes writing styles should exist. For example it could look for differences in American versus British spelling like color versus colour or contextual things like soccer versus football and make edits accordingly. ChatGPT could be fed a prompt that says "Rewrite the following...

I wonder if google translate through multiple languages can fm the trick?

LazaroFilm ,
@LazaroFilm@lemmy.world avatar

I don’t see this as infuriating. It’s making sure you’re actually local. It’s location based. If you’re hiding your location they can’t verify that. It’s like complaining that Google Maps asks for location data on your phone.

LazaroFilm ,
@LazaroFilm@lemmy.world avatar

But then that opens the door to anyone creating fake local ads by manually entering a fake location. If you do t want to have your location shared on a location based website maybe you’re in the wrong place. My two cents.

How much royalties do they get per sold item? I’m happy to pay the difference.

I had an LG Tv and was able to open and separate the LCD from the panel to clean it but I guess it depends on your specific model.

Europe is doing it. Look at Apple vs Spotify, as well as Apple forced to open their app stores to 3rd parties. Those are consumer oriented laws. In the USA, lobbying prevent those from happening.

Incorrect. There are additional lateral acceleration forces due to SuperDude flying at the speed of sound to catch him. At least the sidewalk doesn’t need to be cleaned.

After default password disclosed online, 1200 inmates have prison issued laptops seized by guards, threatening their ability to make class deadlines (www.opencampusmedia.org)

Zhang, an electrical engineer in Boston, decided to post about trying to unlock his Justice Tech Solutions Securebook 5 on the social platform X. The thread went viral — also catching the attention of Washington corrections officials, who have used the device for college programming since 2020....

They didn’t lose their laptop. They got taken to be updated because of a security breach

The article is news worthy but I downvoted the post due to the title being garbage.

LazaroFilm ,
@LazaroFilm@lemmy.world avatar

There is a breach as he released the default password, but no one attempted to breach it, as in no one tried to use the default password on their computer. Did you even try to understand what you read?

LazaroFilm ,
@LazaroFilm@lemmy.world avatar

Having root access to that computer means they can do a lot of throngs they aren’t supposed to. I fail to see this as anything but a security breach for this.

I see. That makes sense.

Your camera’s focus most likely looks for hard contrast vertical lines in your picture then racks the focus through its range and looks for the sharpest transition between those contrast lines. In this picture you can see that all the vertical lines have very high and sharp contrast.

The dog’s con is a pro to me. First it’s fun to train your dog. Second you can train them to do cool shit.

The worm’s con could also be a pro. The real con should be: will ruin your back yard.

LazaroFilm ,
@LazaroFilm@lemmy.world avatar

That’s because you don’t do enough of the training part.

Linux market share passes 4% for first time (arstechnica.com)

We see the nearly 33-year-old OS’s market share growing 31.3 percent from June 2023, when we last reported on Linux market share, to February. Since June, Linux usage has mostly increased gradually. Overall, there's been a big leap in usage compared to five years ago. In February 2019, Linux was reportedly on 1.58 percent of...

EU Commission fines Apple over €1.8 billion over abusive App store rules for music streaming providers (ec.europa.eu)

The European Commission has fined Apple over €1.8 billion for abusing its dominant position on the market for the distribution of music streaming apps to iPhone and iPad users (‘iOS users') through its App Store. In particular, the Commission found that Apple applied restrictions on app developers preventing them from...

LazaroFilm ,

They’re just bitter that Spotify is leading the market and not Apple Music and they crybaby because of that. They’ve been bullying Spotify from the beginning and there has been bad blood on both sides for years. Apple has not made it easy for Spotify, why would Spotify give them any more money? They could have worked together, allowing HomePod and Siri to control Spotify and other cross integrations then that would have maybe been a reason to share revenue. But that’s kinda like The Little Red Hen here.

LazaroFilm ,
@LazaroFilm@lemmy.world avatar

The only service available on HomePod to voice command is AppleMusic. For Spotify, you can AirPlay from your phone’s app like a Bluetooth speaker but you can select a song by voice. Only play pause and volume and only when you have your phone available for that.
