I think it's more the manufacturer knows it can't cover both eyes and so tells you not to use it that way. If your eyes don't hurt, I'm sure the damage was very minimal. But what do I know.

neptune ,

I should open an Etsy shop and sell shitty d20s and not tell anyone. April fools!

neptune ,

IF yOu ArE ANtICAPiTaLIST Why dO yOU HavE A JOb? energy I'm getting from this post.

No, I don't think renting out your first home is a grave issue, but it's a snow flake in the avalanche for why housing is unaffordable. Housing is either a necessity that should be affordable, or an investment that grows and grows in value. Society has to pick one. And it would be obviously ruinuos for the status quo of housing to outpace inflation to continue.

He was openly spreading propaganda against the lawful government too!

Everytime I see these dumb wojacks I definitely think the meme creator is 12 and have to back away from completely pre judging the whole meme. Thank you for this.

April fools, silly, every day we live under capitalism

‘IRL Fakes:’ Where People Pay for AI-Generated Porn of Normal People (www.404media.co)

A Telegram user who advertises their services on Twitter will create an AI-generated pornographic image of anyone in the world for as little as $10 if users send them pictures of that person. Like many other Telegram communities and users producing nonconsensual AI-generated sexual images, this user creates fake nude images of...

I can paint as many nude images of Rihanna as I want.

Even Jefferson surmised it should be radically updated every few decades. I think he'd and many others would be pissed to realized we're all held hostage by compromises that barely made sense at the time.

neptune ,

Yes I'm aware we have had some amendments. Ending slavery. Allowing women to vote. Direct election of Senators.

What about gerrymandering? Cap in the house leading to bad representation? The senate? I mean the senate still exists. States aren't people like people pretended they were. So much has not changed.

Definitely to be on the next iteration of this meme.

    Blue Curaçao and sprite

    neptune ,

They should just find someone who is friends with another man named Joseph Biden and then they can have that person post all the memes and then when the FBI shows up the guy can be like "the president? No I'm joking about murdering my friend! Completely normal"

The issue is that the LLMs do often just verbatim spit out things they plagiarized form other sources. The deeper issue is that even if/when they stop that from happening, the technology is clearly going to make most people agree our current copyright laws are insufficient for the times.

    neptune ,

That's one example, plus I'm talking generally why this is an important question for a CEO to answer and why people think generally LLMs may infringe on copyright, be bad for creative people

    neptune ,

    https://archive.is/nrAjc

Yep here you go. It's currently a very famous lawsuit.

    neptune ,

OK but this is why people give a shit when a CEO is cagey about how their magic box works

    neptune ,

Yeah I thought thirty was old when I was in high school. Adults of a given age have been getting healthier and healthier my entire life. Being childless in my early thirties is also a blessing. But come on. I had time and no money at twenty one. Now I have money and wisdom. And still healthy. Probably healthier than I was at 21.

Sure lots of people in their twenties are still poorly and may be unhealthy but there's no magic age where life is over.

    neptune OP ,

That was my interest in the story. Technology is so ingrained in our lives. It's weird more furniture doesn't have power chargers and other cords better designed into them. It's weird our houses and electrical codes haven't caught up.

But this is just a huge step back. Unless I'm unaware of lots of other new and old buildings with similar issues.

    neptune ,

I read this book in college, of my own accord, and I didn't believe everything in it, at the time, and only I encountered criticisms of it much later.

Definitely an accessible entry into the idea of anthropology. For what it's worth. Probably better books out there.

If she can win ~5 states I think she gets to make certain demands at the convention. Such as giving a speech or requiring a platform be written.

No Haley fan, but I am interested to see what or if her plan here is.

What It’s Like to Staff the Home of a Billionaire (www.thecut.com)

Say you’re on a yacht with your principal and they had a few tequilas, and then they’re like, “Oh, come on. Join us.” Ultimately, you have to remember that you are there because they’re paying you. It’s a job. They’re not your friend. Obviously, you need to share compassion and empathy. Sometimes your boss needs...

These are some broad brush strokes, dude.

I agree that modern and western atheism is sort of a dialectal to western religion and so perpetually tied to it in a way, that westerners don't often see.

I agree that atheism as commonly portrayed online (actively and by its detractors alike) is militantly against Islam, all religions, etc.

But lots of atheists are actually humanists and not militantly out to root out all religion entirely.

Inside the US we are plagued by a religious fascism that yes, sadly, colors a looot of the online conversation about faith and atheism.

Atheists are not generally for eradicating all religions on the planet.

    neptune ,

To pull it full circle: you average atheist does NOT want to commit genocides or ban churches or tell religious people not to teach their kids.

    neptune ,

Remember when Barbie didn't end with Will Farrells head in the guillotine?

    neptune ,

Do I need more pixels? Or am I just missing Elon's planes, the oil companies, the Koch family planes, the military industrial complex, the car industry,

    neptune ,

Making a better chat bot AI girlfriend, informing porn directors, leaking it to the Russians,

    neptune ,

I think it's a joke on the Putin thing. Like OK, a historical border doesn't justify a present day war. Even the leader of Mongolia was riffing on this. Should Mongolia reclaim all of it's former land Asia?

    neptune ,

It seems they are about to have their bubble burst. It's probably the next wave of enshittification.

    neptune ,

I'm more just talking about how the COOOL NEW THING attracts a lot of attention. Then an ungodly amount of investor money. And then dies. I don't like podcasts and I don't know a whole lot about their distribution, but the fact that they get funded like super bowl ads definitely means another shoe is about to drop.

    neptune ,

Finally, a global warming solution. Then we send these balloons to Mars or something.

    neptune ,

I think the idea is that in order for private companies to take the money, some of it has to go to HBCU as research contracts. Biden can't just decided to tell a school to research some niche chip topic. The researchers leading the project have to hit a wall, and work with universities to research and solve it...

Yeah the article could explain way better. The big money for schools these days, besides grant money, is private partnerships. That's what I think is going on here.

    neptune ,

Yeah I agree that there is a TAKE vs a SHARE.

Some of the reason cultural appropriation is a bad thing is due to capitalism. Taking something, even symbolically, for profit, is different than learning, experiencing and sharing.

    neptune ,

Scroll up and see what Southern Samurai said

    neptune ,

OK, so what does what happens in one person's family have to do with all children?

Again you might teach your kids to walk safely on the sidewalk, but if something changes and ten of thousands of kids just start walking off the sidewalk..... Wouldn't that be an issue worth considering?
