Wow, how much of a deluded asshole do you have to be to attack the internet archive.

Best wishes

For real, that video was crazy though. How did you find that?

Varyk , (edited )

That's cool. I still haven't dipped a toe into Instagram, but that video is the best thing I've ever seen on any IG link that anyone has posted. That's very cool!

Varyk ,

I didn't step foot on the boarding ramp to Twitter, ig, any of it, and now it seems like they're all just shooting themselves in the app, like they were this weird blip that I never learned anything about and now I don't need to remember.

Varyk ,

Have you looked into bluesky at all yet? That's Dorsey's new venture, right?

I do jump in pretty heavy to places like Reddit or Lemmy, but they're enough for me so far.

Varyk ,

Makes sense. I shredded and deleted my Reddit account and just use this now.

Varyk ,

Whoa, awesome. I just tried it and copilot, which I did like, has been supplanted.

I'm getting way more accurate answers.

Varyk ,

I can't see a huge difference between openai 3.5 and Claude on ddg, but they are both beating copilot hands down.

If I ask copilot a specific question, like when was the first year this product was released in the United States, it'll describe the product stuff tell me about the product without mentioning the year, while the ddg chatbots both answer a similar question immediately and accurately.

My only problem is that unless I'm missing something, ddg botsdon't provide the source they're getting the information from, which I do like a lot with copilot, that I can make sure the source they're pulling the information from is accurate immediately because the link is provided.

I was in a high school school physics class and jokingly asked the teacher for an a, and they told me that if they gave me an a they had to give everybody an a, is that what I wanted?

I hesitated for a moment and then said yeah of course I want that yes. Give us all A's.

I was immediately shouted down by every single other student in the class that it wasn't fair.

And I was like, you guys know that grades are all fake anyway and this is all b******* right?

Varyk ,

Hahaha yeah, humans are weird

Varyk ,

My high school classmates agree with you.

Varyk ,

I was not aware their Constitution specifically renounced war.

Varyk ,

Nice, strong zero's pretty tasty, little sweet.

I recommend Aster, no sugar, light but sharp fruit taste, still gets you drinkdrank and tastes way better.

Kyoto's cool, lots of things to see and do and cool markets, the LGBTQ scene is alive and well there. It isn't out like it is in a lot of big cities, most people are pretty private, but Japanese courts just ruled same-sex marriage bans unconstitutional, and there are plenty of LGBTQ bars and of course Japanese people are publicly polites to a fault, so it's on the accepting side of the spectrum.

I will say though, Kyoto is cool because it's a Japanese city and Japanese cities are cool, but all of my favorite memories set in Japan are from smaller towns and other cities.

Varyk ,

Just so you know, I've always been a huge fan of you people.

Varyk ,

Are they pretending everyone knows what that is?

UK Trial: Pornhub's Chatbot Halts Millions from Accessing Child Abuse Content (www.wired.com)

A trial program conducted by Pornhub in collaboration with UK-based child protection organizations aimed to deter users from searching for child abuse material (CSAM) on its website. Whenever CSAM-related terms were searched, a warning message and a chatbot appeared, directing users to support services. The trial reported a...

You're hitting that "protest too much" shtick pretty hard

Varyk ,

Nope, not my takes.

But go off

Varyk ,

Ah, one of the "using words they don't understand" crew.

And several hours late, too.

Swinging for the fences, aren't you?

Varyk ,

You aren't trying to clutch pearls, but your pearls were just so available you felt you had to jump on the bandwagon to reply to a two-day old comment?

Nobody said this was a theoretical concern and it's okay if you don't understand the phrases " protest too much" and "shtick“, but you can ask for the definitions and relevance directly instead of fishing.

Roku TV bricked until agreeing to new terms of service

See title - very frustrating. There is no way to continue to use the TV without agreeing to the terms. I couldn't use different inputs, or even go to settings from the home screen and disconnect from the internet to disable their services. If I don't agree to their terms, then I don't get access to their new products. That...

Varyk ,

I just stick with computer monitors these days.

"Smart" TVs are f****** ridiculous now.

Varyk , (edited )

I didn't know there were any smart TVs that weren't pieces of s*** anymore, so that's good to hear.

Personally, I've never had a problem finding a large monitor that fit my living room well.

I buy a separate Chromebook or similar $30 used laptop and run everything off of that through HDMI to the monitor.

Cheap and easy.

Varyk ,

I literally don't believe American fast food prices and second every point you've made.

Varyk , (edited )

I was traveling for several years and when I visited the states again I thought it would be fun to go through a Wendy's. I was charged 4.50 for a plain hamburger, and I was shocked and assumed she entered the order wrong, and asked the fast food worker why the price was so high and if it was that high all the time.

She was so bummed out and told me she couldn't even eat fast food except for the fries she got on her shift because the prices were so crazy now. That's about the last time I stopped by any fast food places in the states.

I've been traveling again and I'm in Taiwan right now, a stacked buffet plate is about 4 bucks and the vegetarian pay by the plate place I'm at now are 2 bucks a full plate.

Varyk ,

My anecdote is about prices in a single country skyrocketing, I think you only find that particular country's data less interesting because it's a country you're familiar with.

I do have more international data points for you, though.

All the American fast food joints keep their prices pretty consistent across countries I've been to in any year, within ten percent or so of conversion rates anyway.

As for local fare in Taiwan, inflation is blowing up here. prices in general here seem about 50% higher than 5 years ago.

China's prices have all doubled since ten years ago, except for housing, which is slightly cheaper(evergrande). Not that they were ever expensive.

Varyk ,

Really?

Varyk ,

Thank you so much. That is fascinating.

What a cute souvenir from a devious, power-mad war criminal

Gender pay gap means women work first two months of the year unpaid - so today is Women's Pay Day (www.thecanary.co)

New Trades Union Congress (TUC) analysis reveals Women’s Pay Day – the day when the average woman stops working for free compared to the average man – is today, Wednesday 21 February. In some industries and in some parts of the country where the gender pay gap is wider, women effectively work for free for even longer...

First person to downvote this meme just gets an avalanche of hate and snowballs right in their nostrils.

Varyk ,

Also sexy yoda. She became self-aware of her own power and had to take herself out of the equation.

But there's never been another Yoda similarly balanced in the force.

Varyk , (edited )

I read this book after the last time I saw this meme.

It's good! It's fun.

He was this guy who couldn't help buying wolves and raising them and his wife and kids put up with it.

He wrote a lot of books, this is one of his memoirs.

Varyk ,

They can both cook, he is Jewish, she is Japanese, they have children (a result of sex).

Varyk ,

He was born in like the 30s or something?

It isn't a contemporary piece, but it is absolutely a fascinating look into what some crazy man who loves wolves in the '50s is like.

He was pretty well known at the time, Hunter Thompson like notoriety as a journalist with slightly less cultural fear because he was more laid back and sociable than Thompson.

Varyk ,

Not really

Varyk ,

We get it, you're Mormon, cooool.....soaker-ass Mormon ass soaker

Varyk ,

Nah

Varyk ,

Okay so who has the updated Will Smith's spaghetti video?

Varyk , (edited )

Huh, I liked the show okay, not a diehard fan, but that trailer actually gave me chills.

I'll check it out.

The action looks awesome, kind of wary of how the kid playing aang stumbled over his lines, but everyone else seems pretty well cast, the production looks great.

Varyk ,

Oh it is? There's for letting me know, I hadn't realized it was already released.

There was something about the cartoon that just didn't click with me, and I love cartoons, so I'll be very interested in giving this a try.

Uh-Oh, now kytch is getting sued by the law firm kytch was using to sue Taylor because kytch apparently hasn't paid that law firm.
