I do a lot of photography and I share it on my deviant art page.

It’s SFW, don’t worry.

At his point for me it's only CAD and Lightroom that keeps a Windows install in my machine

All the games I like run fine on Linux nowadays

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

You'd hope so but it aligns way too close to a lot of the "trad wife" types for me to be too sure

And a big problem we're having is that due to climate change those 1/100 chance events are changing for the worst.

As it should be

Deer is delicious

Legit British cuisine

I honestly didn't expect that but once I saw the pic I hoped it was true, and oh man was I pleasantly surprised

Edit: I do hope to find it in the states to at least give it a try. I'm not one to just not try a food item because it sounds odd.

NGL that sounds fire

Sign me the hell up for that

I grew up in the days of network television and local stations. Never had cable or those fancy DVR boxes (or teevo for those who remember). When we wanted to record something we had to know when it was going to be on, then program the VCR, slap a tape in and hope for the best.

I have no patience for ads whatsoever.

When they'd come on back in the day (me being the youngest) I'd be told to holler when the show cam back on.

I block every single ad network wide at home. And now I only watch content without ads via any means I can.

I hate ads with a burning fiery passion.

As the saying goes: if you only have one backup you have zero backups.

How the fuck does Google of all companies manage to accidentally delete that‽

Visa is rolling out technology that will allow you to tap your card on your smart device to add it to your wallet. You’ll also be able to tap your card to your phone to confirm a transaction without needing to input any additional information.

So like almost any tap to pay system?

Shit I was doing this stuff with GPay for years.

Within a decade, you’ll likely access all of your cards with one credential and choose which payment method you’d like to use. That includes not just credit and debit cards, but also buy now, pay later options and direct payments from your bank account.

This is just PayPal.

It's a lot of fun for sure

And can be really tough at times

What kind of gear did you use for this one?

When I used to play MTG one of the LGSs I used to play at had a policy of, "If you play with proxies they much be cleared by the judge first."

Almost everyone with anime proxies got told they couldn't use them due to them almost always being NSFW. The people with sharpied basics almost never got turned down. The anime proxy dudes who got turned down always got pissed when they got told no.

They were pretty good on a lot of things but the regulars who'd show up to games were eventually the reason I stopped going there.

I do miss MTG sometimes but I don't miss the local MTG groups at all.

Hope is key to acting

Using hope as a driving factor for acting to bring the change you want to see

For example: I hope to see better pedestrian focused infrastructure in my community therefore I act in a way to make that happen. I call my reps, I talk with people I meet about it, etc.

@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

So many people commuting to jobs that could easily be done from home nowadays

I work in the freight industry in a position I can't do from home but when the whole work from home thing was in full swing I didn't get stuck in traffic except a few times when the local drawbridge went up

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Probably SEO reasons to help it pop up if you search his name there by driving more traffic to their site

Damn that sucks

I really liked HiFi Rush

Seeing kids surpass me in skills I taught them how to do is (for me) a fantastic feeling

I want to see them be better than I was at whatever I taught them

Spitting facts right there

Hell my favorite places to go hiking don't even have cell service

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It truly is bliss being disconnected from everything every now and then

No Internet, no phone calls, no texts, nothing.

Being truly disconnected from the world at large.

If people need me, they can wait until I get back from my hike or my vacation as I'm truly unreachable unless someone hikes out there too.

Also you can't be legally forced without a warrant to give a password but biometric data you can be legally forced without a warrant to give up

A different kind of excitement without flames.

Sodium cells have been out of the lab for at least 8 months now.

They're still a bit pricey but the price is quickly falling

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Especially considering there's no fire from a sodium cell, just a quick bang. They definitely seem a lot safer.

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I love nuclear but this new battery tech has me super excited

It increases the viability of renewable energy sources (especially solar) which makes me hella happy

Gormadt , (edited )
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

This is exactly why I love nuclear

And who can forget the classic, "Where is the waste from fossil fuels? Take a deep breath, it's in your lungs. Where is the waste from nuclear power? Where we store it."

Yes there have been disasters but the waste from those are tracked, in a specific location, and can be cleaned up. The default state of fossil fuels hits every living breathing thing on Earth.

And even factoring in the impact from disasters nuclear is still the safest. And we have even safer designs for reactors nowadays then the reactors that had those disasters.

A baby carrot

It takes about the same force to bite through a baby carrot as it does to bite through a finger

As long as the carrot is pretty close to the size of the finger you're wishing to stimulate

I wish I didn't know that

Just doing my part

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I see somebody else has been searching for programming tutorials

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

My friend that's 3 words

And I agree we really need to get the ball rolling on that sooner rather than later

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

NGL "Hermit in a log cabin" sounds really nice

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I'm an avid hiker personally

Especially in the local wilderness where I don't get cell reception

It's nice knowing that literally no matter how important somebody thinks their problem is they can't reach me no matter how hard they try AND no matter how much my reflex is to check my email for "important" things that need taken care of I literally can't check it.

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I'm sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I'm sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I'm sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it's been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one back?

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

My favorite is how shitty voice to text has gotten over the last year as well

It's literally only gotten worse

A few days ago I tried to use it to message a friend about something cool I saw at work and it sent them a random URL because at the end of a sentence it didn't put a space it just started the next sentence

It's becoming literally useless due to random shit like that

Gormadt OP ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Okay I think I'm following so far

And the whole "show stuff on screen" thing

I'm guessing it's kinda like: you've got a couple people sitting there wanting to play with Legos and only so much room to play. They don't have direct access to the play area because of security reasons so they have to ask someone to place the Legos for them. Wayland, X11, and Xorg are all different people they can talk to to place the Legos in a way where no one is fighting for space.

So basically it's a new way for programs to negotiate who has what part of the screen?

I'm guessing Wayland is either more feature rich or lighter on resources and that's why it's a big deal?

Gormadt OP ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

The TLDR was really helpful NGL

So it's software that handles software wanting to display things on the screen. Because having each piece of software do it itself would be not only chaos but a massive security concern. And it's a big deal because it fixes (by replacing) the old software with something that's easier to work with than the old ways of doing things (due to all new code that's not spaghetti that's hacked together over decades).

Am I close?

Gormadt OP ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

That's really interesting and thank you

I think I'm beginning to get it now, and Wayland does sound better than X11 at least

Gormadt OP ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

What kinds of features does it gain and lose?

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Probably AI written

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Likewise

Which is part of why I'm thinking it was AI written

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

It has so much potential and yet we use it in such a terrible way and we're steered to do so by corporations looking to exploit us for every last dollar

Gormadt ,
@Gormadt@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Unfortunately FreeCAD is not as featur e rich as Fusion 360

It's getting closer but it's not there yet
