Shit take.
People that take HR jobs are that different than us. It's like cops, the job only attracts the exact type of person that shouldn't be doing that job.

Lizardking27 ,

Keeping your cats indoors won't solve anything. Housecats aren't destroying the bird population, feral cats are. If you want to help, volunteer with your local vet or animal control to capture, spay/neuter, then re-release stray cats.

Lizardking27 ,

Maybe, depending on where you live. But that's not what we're discussing.

"About a third of the problem"
So, not the primary cause (or solution.)

https://doi.org/10.1038/ncomms2380

"We estimate that free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.3–4.0 billion birds and 6.3–22.3 billion mammals annually. Un-owned cats, as opposed to owned pets, cause the majority of this mortality."

The article also states the following regarding more popular studies in the media involving pet cats:
"The magnitude of mortality they cause in mainland areas remains speculative, with large-scale estimates based on non-systematic analyses and little consideration of scientific data"

Lizardking27 ,

I mean, yeah. Are you implying it is all men? Because that's a super fucked up and sexist thing to believe.

Lizardking27 ,

"denying it or saying we should pretend it's not real"

Good thing nobody here has said to do that.

Lizardking27 ,

Maybe, but reddit also bans anyone who isn't a bot.

Not how cats work. Nice job getting butthurt about a funny comic on the internet, though.

And just so you can be better informed in the future. Feral cats are the ones affecting the ecosystem. Outdoor house cats have a negligible influence on wildlife. Let your cat go outside sometimes.

And, just a guess, you should probably go outside sometimes too.

"The magnitude of mortality they cause in mainland areas remains speculative, with large-scale estimates based on non-systematic analyses and little consideration of scientific data. Here we conduct a systematic review and quantitatively estimate mortality caused by cats in the United States. We estimate that free-ranging domestic cats kill 1.3–4.0 billion birds and 6.3–22.3 billion mammals annually. Un-owned cats, as opposed to owned pets, cause the majority of this mortality."

Downvoting doesn't make you right and it doesn't make your cats less miserable.

Maybe don't believe every sensationalized social media article that's really just a barely disguised cat litter ad.

"The science is pretty firm" lmao

There. Do I have to do all you peoples' thinking for you?

Lizardking27 ,

Yeah, cats are safer if you never let them go outside, sure.

So are humans. But would you want to live like that?

Lizardking27 ,

"Never met an ecologist who wants to feed their pets to the local wildlife."

"A responsible pet owner doesnt let their pets roam outdoors."

Dude. You're clearly not an ecologist, just some loudmouth repeating sensationalist, unfounded, unresearched pseudoscience. Just stop.

Lizardking27 ,

Hate to break it to you OP but it's 100% Jif.

Lizardking27 ,

"There are lots of people in the world who pronounce things wrong"

"Its actually not nitch no matter how many people say it like that"

You're this close to getting it.

Lizardking27 ,

Non-americans really love this weird bogus narrative.

Lizardking27 ,

Yeah I really think you've misunderstood some things. An infinitely thin coat of paint? Are you familiar with the mechanics of the Portal games?

It would be like dropping a hula hoop over a basketball. Regardless of how fast the hoop falls, the basketball still just sits there.

Fahrenheit is better for weather, and I'll fight anyone about it.

We use Celsius in the lab because it makes math easier, it's great.

But Fahrenheit is basically a 0-100 scale of how hot it is outside and that makes perfect sense for describing outside conditions relative to human sensory perception.
