Apparently he thinks data is like the ducks you find in the park

Lumisal ,

No one ever tells you this, but you can just take the ducks. Just like with the city pigeons. Just make sure you don't take a government drone by accident.

Lumisal ,

You can take the ducks you know

Lumisal ,

To ask of you have any grapes

Lumisal ,

We get Windows 11 N

Lumisal ,

My bad, you're right. I thought it also excluded the software that made automatic onedrive support possible but apparently not.

Lumisal ,

Recently I've found Fedora based distros better than debian (like Ubuntu) based ones, especially on "newer" hardware (https://pcpartpicker.com/user/Hezio/saved/#view=TwZfpg)

For gaming Bazzite literally installs everything you need for you except Proton GE, although Steam's regular Proton isn't bad either for most games.

Lumisal ,

Didn't know these customized windows os's were still a thing. I thought they did out in the windows 7 age

But like back then, how do we know these are safe and don't have some kind of password stealing malware? Excluding Defender specifically makes it a bit sus

Lumisal ,

I think reputation is better than the virus total scan, since it wouldn't catch malware broken up in different parts that are integrated into the OS.

I will definitely keep this in mind. Have you had any issues with the OS not having Edge? I thought it wasn't easily possible without causing some issues.

Lumisal ,

Haven't really seen it mentioned here, but for those who don't know, the male chicks are not used for chicken nuggets, but primarily for pet food or plant fertilizer. Also not every country does this practice. Not only that, but eliminating eggs from the human global diet would be unfeasible. This is because eggs are the best source of protein, with only whey protein coming second. They are also the only food with such a high protein content that also contains all essential nutrients. And before someone posts "but da beans!" - no, they're not on the same level. Although beans are a good source of protein, they're neither complete nor are they actually as high as they seem, because the protein they have isn't as bioavailable as that of eggs (speaking of, this is why there's certain practices in vegan diets to gain more nutrients, such as eating leafy greens with an acid to get more iron or soaking pecans to remove the pyric acid in them to absorb the minerals they have better).

Removing eggs from the world diet would actually lead to more ecological harm, even without more ethical chicken rearing practices becoming wider spread, because the amount of farm land needed to ensure proper nutrition for everyone with a mixed vegetable diet would be significantly higher than ensuring there's just enough eggs for everyone.

You don't like baby chicks getting ground up? Don't own carnivorous pets, and buy from more ethical egg farmers. Or if you can, honestly just get your own chicken or 2. You'll have enough eggs with even a single chicken to be honest. Hens don't need much space, males can be eaten once their 4am crowing drives you crazy - although they do keep the hens happy. If you can afford it or don't have very particular diet restrictions, go vegan - you probably don't need as much protein as you think. I used to be vegan until kidney failure, and now with a transplant am back to mostly vegetarian (at least for now until I can go back to being fully vegan). I also used to raise animals for food and farm because I came from a poor family initially. If you don't care, then just consider eating less meat and eggs will ya? Too much ain't good for your health either. Plus it'll taste better if you don't eat it every day. A weekend bbq is way more special when you haven't had meat the prior everyday.

Lumisal ,

OpemAi had a for profit division though

Lumisal ,

This is nice to know. Cinny looks beautiful from a UX perspective, wish they made an app too. Not enough good UX in open source stuff.

Lumisal ,

They really should be trying to do lab grown fish meat. Would probably be easier than growing lab beef too. Would be perfect for Sushi too

Lumisal ,

Last I checked they didn't have the majority though?

Lumisal ,

Ok but the AfD is literally just modern Nazis.

Calling people who voted for them stupidity is the extremely charitable label, because malicious and vile would be more accurate in that case.

Comparing Italy and Germany here just isn't equivalent.

Lumisal ,

Why ? Just because they voted for the Right wing that promise to solve what they see as a problem while the Left wing call them bigot, racist and homophobe

They didn't just vote for the right wing though, they voted for Nazis. So yes, they are literally bigoted, racist, homophobes. If you support people who admired Hitler, guess what? You're a fucking asshole of a very high degree. Being poor or troubled doesn't make you an asshole. My parents grew up in extreme poverty in El Salvador, and they didn't become extreme racists. I was in extreme poverty in university in the USA, I didn't suddenly start voting right wing either, let alone extremely far right. I hated the democrats over there, but knew the right wing wouldn't solve it because bad people don't go good things.

You don't end up voting for genuinely bad people who admire one of the most atrocious regimes in human history because of frustration. You only do so because you either already have a broken moral compass, or are extremely ignorant and stupid. In Germany though, it's more likely to be the former rather than the latter considering their history. And it's that recent history that makes it that much more shameful for Germany, and that shows that Nazism was still not extinguished.

You don't deal with an intolerant group like Nazi or AfD by excusing them or reaching out to them. You don't tolerate the intolerant (paradox of tolerance), because otherwise it'll only be a matter of time before you or someone else is no longer tolerated. And that's something history has proven repeatedly.

Lumisal ,

How many bots.

Lumisal ,

Well now he owns it so should be easy for him to publish that.

But then those who carry musky water for him probably wouldn't be able to do so.

Lumisal ,

Cool.

But until you call tell me how many bots, your claim isn't evidence that it's actually as active as you imply it to be - at least by humans.

Lumisal ,

I sympathized with your statement immediately, but then after thinking about it for a bit, most people basically have controlled pressure bombs (gas-water boilers) and buildings filled with gas pipes that can (and have) wiped out whole city blocks.

It's still not a good idea, obviously, but localized fossil fuels are also ridiculous when you think about it.

Lumisal ,

They could also just take a regular cellphone.

As far as I can see, this is banning smartphones, not cellphones. Can still do calls and text.

Lumisal ,

My wife is a teacher in Finland and two cousins are teachers in USA.

Smartphones don't help with education either. Two things can be true. I'm not even sure what you mean by "corralling student attention in the hands of the parents".

That said, I was sarcastically replying to the comment above me which sarcastically suggested old school tape recorders.

Lumisal ,

Try BazziteOS

It's meant for gaming, but I find it's so feature complete that's it's great for non-gaming purposes.

Somehow it even works better on my monitor than Windows, since I can actually control my brightness from an applet rather than having to use my monitor buttons.

Lumisal ,

No one here mentioning this will be a gold mine for Malware makers and hackers.

Lumisal ,

You can make a persistent install on a thumb drive actually. Has been possible for about a decade I think. There's even a program now called Ventoy that lets you make multiple persistent installs of different Linux distros on a single thumb drive even.

Lumisal ,

Normally when your PC is initially starting up, F8 will bring up the boot menu and you'd select the USB drive. Otherwise, where it says boot order, clicking around there should let you change the boot order and have the drive boot first every time. Actually, if you're using it as a persistent then this is probably the better option.

I'm not the biggest computer buff compared to some here, so if I'm wrong in any way let me know or comment again - someone will likely come give the right answer lol.

Plus I haven't used Ventoy much, I only used to do it the old fashioned way of partitioning it many years ago until I found what I liked best.

For beginners, I recommend Fedora or Ubuntu based distros because they're definitely the most user friendly, like windows or the days, possibly more now? At least BazziteOS has had more feature compatibility than Windows, which I was shocked by. Still testing all my games, but so far that works well too.

Lumisal ,

My understanding of Kant isn't that the world exists outside of our brain, but that what we perceive as the world can never be determined because we perceive things differently. I mean, many of us don't even see the exact same colors for example. And this can be extended to quantum physics even when you consider that certain things are based on when they are observed.

Lumisal ,

Well you are in a shitty situation.

Lumisal ,

Then don't pay taxes anymore if you actually mean it.

Lumisal ,

There's actual evidence of sabotage tho, such as Hillary getting early access to debate questions, Shadow company (not even kidding they actually fucking named themselves that, look it up) being run by DNC members being in charge of tabulating voting in some states, and more.

They were even taken to court for it and admitted to some wrong doing, but nothing could be done since apparently the DNC is a private entity and no laws are broken. Legally they can screw over any candidate they want.

Lumisal ,

Roe v Wade being overturned was not "more of the same"

Lumisal ,

Sounds like y'all should form a country wide DNS guild, and instead of looking for jobs, just ask band together, and then when the DNS eventually fails, they have no choice but to hire from the guild and pay 5 years salary at once to have it fixed. Then understand if getting hired and fired constantly, you just do a job every now and then and get a huge pay check. So contractor work, but you get to see the companies constantly burn themselves and give y'all with instead.

Lumisal ,

Who is Natalie Portman?

Lumisal ,

You should add startpage.com to your list

Lumisal ,

Startpage wasn't down today

Lumisal ,
  1. How long does it take to be a DNS engineer?

  2. How likely is it to be replaced in 10 years by AI?

I was gonna go for chemistry but you have a convincing argument with the job offers coming to you rather than the other way around

Lumisal ,

It can also literally communicate something through art as it's currently the only reasonable way to create QR code art

Lumisal ,
Lumisal ,

Depends on you country, but the right wing one are usually not the ones that are so pro-regulation.

Lumisal ,

Also responding to unrelated topics will make some think you're a bot. The conversation should happen organically. It'll get you clicks but not positive interaction.

Lumisal ,

Funnily enough with this explanation I finally get what Pocket is, because I thought modern Pocket was something different and not the same thing from back then.

Lumisal ,

I mean if you're in the USA many of you are pulling the lever everyday really. It's just that y'all constantly choose not to run over the wealthy and the corrupt in exchange for peace, love, or whatever reason you may have. But the easy access to weaponry does mean you're constantly pulling a lever.

The problem is the green guys have no issues running y'all over daily.

Lumisal ,

Well you see, they're like onions

Lumisal ,

Hi there. Had kidney failure for about 8 years.

There was this one medication I badly needed to control secondary hyperparathyroidism. Literally used all avenues, and couldn't get it approved or covered, other than by paying around 800$ for a single dose. I even had private insurance still at the time btw. The alternative was a surgery to remove a parathyroid gland which would then lead me to having other severe health complications if I got a kidney transplant. You know, due to now missing an organ.

Second treatment in Finland when I was just VISITING, not even a resident yet - "oh, you're PTH levels are extremely high. We're going to give you "medicine I've been trying to get for months".

Just like that. No struggle even. Cost? 25$, and that includes the superior diafiltration treatment (USA only has dialysis, despite it giving poorer quality of life and lowering life expectancy, thanks to lobbying from DaVita.

Anyway, fuck you 🙂

Lumisal ,

Less sick than if I had been in the USA 🙃

Less dead, too.

Hopefully you don't end up in my situation. Or maybe it's better you do 🤷🏻‍♂️
