There were several things other than that one form of human sacrifice. They would hold feasts & festivals, offer flowers & dough men made from amaranth, pray at midnight, create paper ornaments, burn copal, sing & dance, and would clean & maintain temples to show their devotion.

Hey I just brought that Teotl up. Fun fact: the skin wearing was a metaphor for maize in its husk.

So butterflies and hummingbird wings were considered in the realm of war due to "Aztecs" observation that the beating of their wings look like the flickering of fire.

The featherwork art produced was amazing.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

I see no point for it to exist.

MisterNeon ,

No, I have no love for financial institutions.

What value does a crypto bring by itself? It's not land or a business so you can't develop it. It's not a person or application so it can't perform labor. Crypto is not even physical so I can't eat it, burn it, or use it as a paper weight.

It's only purpose is to be speculated on for trading purposes for REAL MONEY. Crypto currency life cycle ends with it being exchanged for another currency, that's just redundant. It's a griff like speculation on old comic books was back in the 90's, except you don't even get nerd crap you're trying to offload.

Finally it's not backed by the violence of another country. Ever since USA moved off the gold standard "the faith and credit of the US government" which is a fancy way of saying the military industrial complex. That's real and powerful if not ambiguous, which is more than I can say for a list of completed math problems. You and your kind are too weak to have a currency.

You are not an economic revolutionary. You are part of an insular group participating in a ponzi scheme that is desperately trying to get mass adoption so you're not "holding the bag". In crypto there is someone always "holding the bag" because crypto has no innate value.

I'm CIS white male and I don't want to be a girl; I want to be a robot. I don't want pretty dresses or thigh high socks. I want a single glass visor for eyes and a rust proof exoskeleton.

    No. Who?

I'm more of a Mekboy than a Tech priest. Cybork technology is not only more affordable but it's environmentally friendly since it's all scrap.

Right before last summer I bought my good friend an air purifier for his birthday. My other friends made some light ribbing at my expense for being such a boring gift. The wild fires in Canada made the Philadelphia horizon hellish for about a week.

My good friend bought two more purifiers after that.

Why is this being downvoted? All this artist does is spoof conservative political cartoons.

Yes. There's a whole series of these comics.

Ok, I don't know who this is.

    MisterNeon ,
    @MisterNeon@lemmy.world avatar

    Oh, the murderer.

I would suggest studying a bit more on the history of African Americans in the USA. While this was tragic and unjustified it was a more recent symptom of hundreds of years of systemic violence against people of color than a tipping point that changed everything. This horrible bloody path America has been walking down for generations and Mr. Floyd's murder was a fresh footprint.

OP my only argument is that your focus is too narrow. The circumstances that led to Mr. Floyd's murder did not come out of nowhere.

The state I grew up in would create postcards after lynches a few decades ago. That's the America I know.

What can you get to within a 15-minute walk of your house?

A recent YouGov survey asked Americans what they think they should be able to get to within a 15-minute walk of their house.

Of these choices, I can currently walk to all of them from my apartment, aside from a university (no biggie, I'm not currently studying, although there is a Tafe within walking distance), a hospital, and a sports arena.

How many can you get to with a 15 minute walk from your house?

Yo, I moved to Philly from growing up in Houston and I have not used my car in two years. Being able to walk or take the SEPTA train to my choice of bar/pub completely changed my life.

I ain't ever gonna want to leave.

This comic makes me sad. Magritte is great, but I don't know where, "The Son of Man" is located. Every time I search the only thing I find is "Private Collection".

I highly encourage you to seek out the original paintings and other artistic mediums in museums when you have a chance. It's not about prestige, authenticity, or clout. It's about gazing upon relics that have somehow survived the test of time and gleaming a bit of the creator's intentions and skill. It's a human connection that can stretch the breadth of millennia.

Also I used to fix printers so now I have undying hatred of them. I buy quite a few art books though.

Edit: One thing photos, digital image files, and other means of reproduction of most paintings never seem to get right is the texture. Remember a painting is not flat, it's still a 3rd dimensional object. Painting techniques can layer paints giving them texture, it's a visual quality that is hard to appreciate when not in person.

It's been my personal (and embarrassing) experience that the quote attributed to Abe Lincoln, "Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak and to remove all doubt" is usually best policy.
