Yeah I am the no plan kind of traveler. My wife is the general plan type and even we clash sometimes. I can't handle the itinerary people. I've gone on trips with them but I won't participate in their scheduled activities. For that reason cruises seem like the lamest way to waste money on travel to me.

Stopping every 2 hours is nuts. 4 hours sure ok. I regularly drive long distances for work and if it's 6 hours or less I'm going to try to make it without stopping at all.

Can we all agree that whatever version of predictive text we have nowadays is crap, and has been for a long time?

I'm sick of random capitalisations mid sentence. I'm sick of common words being replaced by less common ones or even downright nonsense. I'm sick of it taking three attempts to successfully get the word I want. I swear it's been like this for five years or more. Can we have a better version yet, or at least the old one back?

I work a job that can be taught to most people. Although you do need to be strong and be ok with a lot of travel. General dexterity and familiarity with hand tools helps immensely. I am also a college dropout. I have had very few of my trainees fail to last at least a year. I am so much, almost infinitely better at it than a new hire though.

The other part of my argument here is I coordinate constantly with people who have multiple certifications all the way up to advanced degrees. Every single one of them I've spoken to about it says that their work is roughly 90% learned on the job. To me this makes the certifications and degrees they earned 90% worthless, except that education got their foot in the door to actually learn the job.

We need an overhaul in the way we think about qualifications for jobs. I think college education is a wonderful thing that generally creates a more well rounded individual, and I am grateful that I was able to spend a few years doing it. But pushing people into massive debt so they have a chance to get their foot in the door for a better paycheck is fucking insane.

Every house on my street gets pirate cable. When I found out my ancient neighbor was paying for cable with her social security I was like check this out. Disconnect cable box connect TV straight into coax. Saved her a lot of money when she cancelled cable.

Any time you move to a new house or apartment just plug the coax into a TV, you might be surprised.

Oh you're totally correct on the academic definitions. For instance I'm a leftist social libertarian. But I don't tell most people that because when they think libertarian, they think of guys that drive trucks like in the post.

Like it or not, and I don't, the definition has changed in common language.

Just like how liberal now means something completely divorced from the original meaning for the vast majority of people. You can spend all day trying to explain that liberalism actually is a conservative ideology, but people aren't going to stop using liberal to describe people left of the US Democrats.
