Oh it WILL cause security issues. It's just a tradeoff against if they are worth the benefits.

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Have you seen how slow their site is normally? Just request loads of obscure random pages and it will just eat their IO.

Throw some standard ddos on top to obscure things and your good? (Bad)

Edit: I know nothing about their storage, so I may be wrong. It just feels like they are held together with spit and prayers at the best of times.

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Then you don't get any new people at all. (Or very few)

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Dammit, I came here to make that comment!

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

And if they prioritise it etc then they are just prioritising netflix. It was a great idea!

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Those quotes aren't in the parent comment?

It really depends on the company. You can make fully remote work, you can make 20-40% work or you can do 80-100% work. However the company needs to be run with that in mind to ensure good communication/team building etc.

You also can't just change the rules. If you change the split someone is going to be unhappy.

(And accept that your possible talent pool is reduced when you don't offer remote work)

What happens if you replace "www" in the URL with "old"?

They might not have the block there

VPN?

I really want to see the email/message exchange preceding some of these changes at twitter/Tesla.

Is there any pushback/discussion any more, or does Elon just say jump and entire departments vanish?

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Could be supervillain problems 🤣 comments about wishing someone would go away and an underling resolves it's in a more permanent way .....

Probably not, it's just that his entire exec team are spineless henchman.

I think the spacex team is still independent (ish) for now, I fear for them though!

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

There are some interesting ideas in there that I hadn't heard of. Interesting article

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

It's one of the slot in ones though right? so it doesn't really count - it effectively integrated.

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

And working on stuff that never gets shipped/used is demoralising too. No product to be proud of making/maintaining etc.

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Sounds like a prelude to bankruptcy. Also sounds like an incredibly badly run company. Difficult business to be in though I guess.

I wonder if their lawyers are getting paid...

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Haha, so it was never AI? Just an Indian person getting annoyed at the people trying all kinds of weird tricks to see if they could defeat the 'AI' 🤣

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

This. I occasionally look at all to look for new stuff though

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Have you got your language set on your account? (Open settings on browser not app) It should auto filter based on that. I see very little non English stuff. (Small instance though)

That kind of jigsaw can be much more interesting than normal ones, you discover the image (with clues).

Wasgij do something similar, where the box art shows the reaction to the actual jigsaw image.

And AMD or Intel are better? Everyone complains about the drivers.

I thought that's what the Pico cells are for - each plane has a mini phone tower in it so phones happily connect to that instead of looking for ground stations

Nighed ,

That's a pretty non article - what does that union have to do with the chargers?

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

I did, it's little more than the summary. It's mostly adds

Edit: I apologise, there was a continue reading button hidden between adds after the related content section.....

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

That now means that the basic tier look kinda poor on a storage PoV, worth it for the BYO domain though.

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

I very rarely need a full charge when I get a new phone. Battery rarely drops under 50% unless it's a heavy use day. However, that same phone 3 years later will be causing me issues because the battery doesn't last through the day.

I would happily trade off 20% max battery in the first few years, to get a healthier battery 4 years down the line.

I dislike autosaves in word processors/spreadsheets etc and turn them off whenever I can. I prefer to have that control, I have had issues where I have deleted things to rewrite/update them, decide against it and close the app only to find it's overwritten what I had done....

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

yeh, those are solutions, I was just explaining how its not automatically better.

Latex documents in git are the best option technically, but good luck getting the average person (or me!) to do that.

Art station, Instagram and deviantart are all selling data or doing iffy AI stuff as far as I can tell.

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Artstation doesn't let you filter out AI art, so there will be AI art alongside human art. There was also some issues about if artstation is allowing AI to be trained on what you upload.

Deviantart had a similar issue, and now have an AI art generator on their site.

Instagram is obviously selling all the data they can about what you do/upload, training AI on it etc.

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Oh, is that search filter account wide? Will take a look when I got home.

Did the no ai art protest on there win then, or were they going for a complete ban?

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

If I'm logged in I want to never see AI art.

thats a hell of a risk to take though, and he knows no-one can take it

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

They wouldn't though, even if 5% of their missiles/nukes work, millions would die.

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

but with all of the cloud resources now, you can switch through IP addresses without any trouble. hell, you could just browse by IP6 and not even worry with how cheap those are!

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

That's when Google's browser DRM thing starts sounding like a good idea 😭

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

The reports go to the community mods not your instance admins though don't they?

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

But they do go to the community mods, even on a different instance? And if the community mods remove the content that removal federates?

I prefer to rely on the community mods to remove most 'spam' as it's their role to decide what is spam in their community. (Obviously admins can/should remove illegal content etc)

Admins for the most part shouldn't have to remove content on their copy of other instances communities.

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

My understanding is tha some commercial/industrial users will get a highly variable tariff. This may be cheaper much of the time, but can get ridiculously expensive at times of high demand.

The difference is that a bitcoin farmer can shut down at those expensive times, but a home user still needs to heat/cool their house, run their fridge etc, so the savings cancel out. Because of this, averaging the costs works out easier/better for most home consumers

Something didn't work on Firefox and the dev didn't get permission to work out how to fix it as it was uneconomical compared with just disabling firefox

There are a lot of institutional investors that own a stake in spacex, I know Google has a significant stake for example.

Their not publicly listed though, millionaires only....

Ah yes, give your browsing history to the shady VPN company instead.

Although that would help in this situation.

Nighed , (edited )
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

A VPN either:

  1. Logs access/usage so it can be given to authorities. (And/or sold/stolen etc)

  2. doesn't log usage data and willingly accepts that some disgusting stuff will be done using their service.

1 might have to give browsing data if sued by a media company, 2 is ethnically bankrupt and shouldn't be trusted at all.

Doesn't mean their not useful, just be aware of who you are giving your money to and the limitations of their protection.

I'm surprised they didn't blame the crash on the Decepticons!

... actually it was caused by one of the engines falling off! (or the nossle anyway)

This is the one that was from previously breached credentials right?

So their only fault was not forcing (did they support?) 2FA. + Potentially not having brute force monitoring?

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

Yeh, probably. But in this case they probably had only a few passwords per email, but lots of usernames to try. So per account blocks may not have worked as they had the correct passwords?

Nighed ,
@Nighed@sffa.community avatar

To test the concept, now they know that it works they can come up with a dedicated mission that can cover a lot more ground - the rovers are slllloooowwwwwwww.
