claims that the company often uses machine learning to review user projects for signs of illegal content

OK, so what happens when Florida starts deciding more content is illegal?

Literally big brother shit.

OhmsLawn , (edited )

I care, but I don't know how else to edit my photos on my phone and seamlessly back them up.

I use Lightroom on a Google Pixel. It costs $10/mo for a terabyte of storage and an editor that's constantly being updated. I'm not arguing that it's the best option, I just don't know any solid alternatives.

If anyone else has a solution this use case, essentially the same as someone who wants to leave Google Photos' storage/editing suite, I'd be happy to ditch Adobe.

Edit: a word

OhmsLawn ,

I'll look into proton drive. Thank you!

OhmsLawn ,

Thanks, I'll probably just go back to Snapseed, unless one of those is a standout for design, privacy, power and simplicity.

I actually really enjoy mobile editing in Lightroom, the only mark it misses now is privacy.

I have LR installed on my laptop, but never use it. Obviously, there are drawbacks. I wouldn't want to draw paths in Photoshop on my phone, but for quick crops and color corrections, I work faster and more efficiently on my phone. I also can do it in my spare moments, rather than sitting down to dedicate an evening to editing.

OhmsLawn ,

It's in San Francisco.

I've seen it, but hadn't realized that it was open to visitors.

OhmsLawn ,

I'm sure the French will appreciate what is done to their language by this project lol.

OhmsLawn ,

I'm in Chile right now. I have a local phone number and 20 gb for 30 days. eSIMs are amazing. I paid by at least 4x, getting Movistar through an app before I left, but my phone worked on the tarmac and I got to spend my first day exploring, rather than looking for a mobile shop.

OhmsLawn ,

Same, except I almost always have a light jacket for storage. I don't like carrying a murse, and it basically never gets really hot where I live.

Google apologizes for ‘missing the mark’ after Gemini generated racially diverse Nazis (www.theverge.com)

Google apologizes for ‘missing the mark’ after Gemini generated racially diverse Nazis::Google says it’s aware of historically inaccurate results for its Gemini AI image generator, following criticism that it depicted historically white groups as people of color.

OhmsLawn ,

It's really a failure of one-size-fits-all AI. There are plenty of non-diverse models out there, but Google has to find a single solution that always returns diverse college students, but never diverse Nazis.

If I were to use A1111 to make brown Nazis, it would be my own fault. If I use Google, it's rightfully theirs.

OhmsLawn ,

I have enough trouble generating postage-stamp images right now. What kind of rig am I going to need for video?

OhmsLawn ,

Yeah, probably better to limit the numbers, rather than increase the price.

OhmsLawn ,

They don't even need that. They'd just use shell companies.

OhmsLawn ,

As someone who has only dipped his toe into this tech, and into podcasts, for that matter, what's the best android app to use for this?

I don't really want to use Spotify, etc. Is there a preferred independent and/or FOSS that people like?

OhmsLawn ,

Thank you. This is exactly the response I'm looking for.

Now I have to decide what the heck I'm interested in following...

OhmsLawn , (edited )

The translation is precise, but for some reason it doesn't carry the same degree of humor. I think it may have to do with the way Spanish handles the indefinite article "a cat."

Edit: ok, that might be part of it, but there's also the way he tells her that she now has a cat. The word-for-word translation differs slightly in meaning from the figurative translation. There's something that's lost, maybe a degree of finality?

OhmsLawn ,

Alright, now I'm curious. I was responding from the perspective of an English speaker who reads and understands Spanish.

What do you find strange in the Spanish version? How would you express these lines more naturally?

OhmsLawn ,

Like I said, I'm not a native speaker. However, I was taught that the indefinite article is often omitted in this type of sentence to avoid confusion between an and one.

In other words "¿Tienes carro?" and "Tiene novio." still mean "do you have a car?" and "she has a boyfriend" even without the articles.

OhmsLawn ,

Good catch lol. I'm trying to picture a 2600 passenger bus. That's more than any train I've ever been on. It would have to be the size of an ocean liner.
