This always comes down to the fact that labor is competitive. Why pay someone $200k/yeae when someone will do the job for $80k/year? Competition drives the prices of labor down. Maybe there needs to be better regulation for labor competition like corporations enjoy.

PhAzE ,

Ceo pay is advertised and used against each other to get top dollar. Lowers like us have out pay hidden so companies can low ball without us knowing. That's what needs to change. It should be law to be advertised pay rate so the lowballers get exposed and no one applies, forcing pay to go up.

Rabbit R1 is Just an Android App (lemmy.world)

See, it turns out that the Rabbit R1 seems to run Android under the hood and the entire interface users interact with is powered by a single Android app. A tipster shared the Rabbit R1’s launcher APK with us, and with a bit of tinkering, we managed to install it on an Android phone, specifically a Pixel 6a....

PhAzE ,

These products male no sense on the age of smart phones. They will end up just being an app we download or free features of our phones at some point.

PhAzE ,

Just the cost of doing business. I bet they made more on the sale.

PhAzE ,

I didn't open the video. Was it one of those videos that talk in circles about what they're "going" to talk about in the video, then they keep saying it in different ways?

PhAzE ,

Roku is a terrible product. It's cheap, and they have full control over every part of it and aren't afraid to exploit it to users' detriment. Like the recent user agreement changes that bricked TVs until you agreed.

PhAzE ,

You could try a shield instead. It doesn't push ads that way.

Lemmy users are just going to believe whatever they want to believe, instead of actually checking the facts.

It's 100% about privacy. Data collection, and algorithm manipulation to sway what users see in the interest of the Chinese government. If users think Russian interference is a problem, we'll this amounts to the same thing.

PhAzE ,

Again, it's not about data being collected. It is about the algorithm that let's them control what users see in their feeds.

PhAzE ,

And if it's tanking, Musk is responsible and shouldn't be paid any bonus because he failed them.

PhAzE ,

The problem isn't actually just that China takes our data, it's that they control the algorithm on tiktok for what users see, thereby giving them the ability to manipulate the public.

PhAzE ,

Yea, it's not as bad as this thread is trying to make it out to be.

PhAzE ,

The issue is that China controls the algorithm for what users see. This gives them the ability to manipulate users by showing specific content to sway their opinion on things. This is specifically about China's ability to manipulate US citizens.

PhAzE ,

Not sure what you know, but here's the head of the FBIs statement about why.

PhAzE ,

Can't blame them. Late stage capitalism is causing a lot of people a lot of pain while a few get super rich from it.

PhAzE ,

Agreed. People only hear/read what they want to read, and often tines its flamboyant claims that are not factual.

PhAzE ,

This has nothing to do with free speech. And yes, 90% of the people out there, including kids, log into tiktok and get a hone page for whatever content China wants to sling, of that's to turn group A more right and group B more left, or to push their own agendas. People just don't look at thongs objectively and tend to follow what they see. This is a security risk for the entire country.

It's not stifling free speech, and blocking content for the sake of blocking content that they're talking about here. Is it moral to block influence like that? Yes.

PhAzE ,

They do, and I'd love to see these laws expanded to include a ban against all algorithm manipulation. Manipulation coming from external sources is much more dangerous, even if local source manipulation is also dangerous.

PhAzE ,

Hot take approved

PhAzE ,

Won't these lose brightness over time as the chemical reactions die out, forcing you to buy a new tv?

PhAzE ,

In using smarttube on my shield and search works perfectly, and revanced still works on mobile. I never use thd Tube on desktop, is there no good solution on that platform?

PhAzE ,

Getting off youtube is pretty difficult with no true alternative.

You forgot to add get off Android, which would also mean just going Apple. There is no good alternative there either.

PhAzE , (edited )

Youtube is a fantastic learning tool for diy, how to vids, reviews, education, etc. The lost goes on, and yea it has crap too, but there's so much use for it in every day life also. Brushing it off would be literally like saying "dlstay away from books, there's so many other things you could be looking at".

PhAzE ,

It's not bad reviews that kill companies, it's bad products.

PhAzE ,

Yes, my comment assumes the reviewers are being genuine. However, in a lot of cases, those people can be weeded out and themselves fail over time because they, too, are peddling bad products (reviews).

PhAzE ,

It was, and it was after 30 seconds. You install the updated revanced, and turn on app version spoofing in the settings and no more buffer issue.

PhAzE ,

Two bars of gold pressed latinum... and not a shilling more!

Side note: I guess that's an item they can't replicate, otherwise everyone would have a lot of money all the time.

PhAzE ,

I'm excited that the bitwarden phone apps are getting a brand new native version for ios and Android soon.

PhAzE ,

No, its built on a Microsoft framework, that MS has decided to change recently. That's why its sluggish and they can't add features like passkeys to the current client apps.

X is becoming a 'ghost town' of bots as AI-generated spam content floods the internet — A sign of the scale is the thriving industry in bot-making (www.abc.net.au)

X is becoming a 'ghost town' of bots as AI-generated spam content floods the internet — A sign of the scale is the thriving industry in bot-making::The internet is filling up with machine-generated "zombie content" designed to game algorithms and scam humans. Experts call it the "great AI flood".

PhAzE ,

I mean, how else will chatGPT bots communicate online?

PhAzE ,

Who invented Google home? Like, what's the person's name? What about the person that designed the Sonos Move?

There's no legacy. There's business objectives and getting those completed so upper management can move their plans forward. Who gets them there is irrelevant.
