I'm willing to bet they'll start adding telemetry features in RPiOS for "quality purposes" a few years from now.

The surveillance would be a double edged sword. If they were to be hacked, all sensitive information that was going through their PCs could be compromised.

I heard this same argument from people all the time. Until it affects you in a meaningful way to change your mind, it'll be too late.

Oh good another reason to wear face masks in this hellish cyberpunk dystopia. Imagine suffering the equivalent of credit card fraud because someone took a photo of you in public.

It's the Chinese government. Not the common Chinese people. I have no problem with ordinary folks trying to live out their lives with friends and family. I do take issue with the CCP using its military to bully fishermen in the South China sea and fucking over the Uyghurs, Tibetans, and Taiwanese.

To play devil's advocate here, I think it's necessary for a social media platform to exist that's outside the control of the US government. Just because we have the first amendment here that doesn't mean our speech is protected, just look at what happens when protesters do it the "wrong" way.

Does that mean China gives a shit about our freedoms? No. They just won't be forced into censoring things the US would want though, and the gap between their opposing hegemonic ambitions is where people can truly say what they want about the US in certain topics. While it's true the CCP is data mining American citizens, their reach to compromise individuals is dwarfed by what US companies can do already.

I don't think it would be okay. Are you happy with almost all American media being controlled by a handful of mega corporations who are beholden to US hegemonic interests?

I'm American and I find it kind of creepy.

CEOs may be sociopaths but they have a more developed sense of self preservation than your run of the mill murderer so it might be more effective IMO. I say try it and add the death penalty for severe financial crimes like they're doing in Vietnam.

Have you considered gog? They may not be betting heavily on Linux or have as a big of a selection but their games are DRM free. You can even install gog Galaxy, a game manager similar to Steam.

It'd be nice if an OS pre installation option was available in the manufacturer's website. I'm sure Linux would get a bump in popularity by the average person if it led to a dip in their PC/laptop's overall price.

We need the death penalty for something like this in the US. Caning is also an appropriate punishment IMO. I don't care if the crime isn't considered violent, his actions have undoubtedly led to some deaths of despair and his punishment should reflect that.

General Motors Quits Sharing Driving Behavior With Data Brokers After Backlash (www.nytimes.com)

The decision followed a New York Times report this month that G.M. had, for years, been sharing data about drivers’ mileage, braking, acceleration and speed with the insurance industry. The drivers were enrolled — some unknowingly, they said — in OnStar Smart Driver, a feature in G.M.’s internet-connected cars that...

Cars shouldn't have Internet connectivity and telemetry collection at all. I don't care what "quality of life" improvements they bring, if they use it to spy on and profit off their customers after paying for the vehicle then it should be banned. I know most people don't give a shit about their privacy but when it starts affecting their wallet, they will.

I don't see any beans, masa, or Gansitos. I'm guessing it's more northern Mexican food in the picture though.

Sir this is America. We only do hardcore capitalism in this country, preferably to the detriment of the average citizen and benefit of CEOs and stockholders the way God intended. /s
